We have two new groups debuting this term!

Sibling Connections Sibling Connections started January 31st and continues to March 21st. The goals of this group are to let siblings meet other siblings to share common joys and concerns and to learn about their brother’s or sister’s special needs. This first offering was for children 9 to 12 years of age.

Social Play GroupSocial Play GroupSocial Play Group will be offered to younger children, ages 2—6 years. This group will run for 8 sessions beginning March 12th. This group is designed to build social play skills and develop connections between children.

Check with your clinician to see when these groups will be offered again.

A monthly networking and support group for all caregivers of indi-

viduals with an ASD. A time to share experi-ences with other while learning about other resources in the community. Guest Speakers are often invited.

Who is new at the

Autism Centre…

We said good-bye to Alanna Haluik, Social Worker, and

Neeja Boyd, Social Worker, in December and welcomed Cindy Baergen, who previously worked as the Rural Autism Consultant for the past 2 years. Cindy is a social worker with 8 years experi-ence.

Barb Popowich, SLP, has been on maternity leave since Octo-ber. Covering her leave are Rob-in Sinclair and Stacie Donison. Both SLPs bring years of experi-ence to their position. Robin is available Mondays and Tuesdays and Stacie works Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Barb will be re-turning to work in October 2013.

BORROWING LIBRARY

The Autism Centre has received do-nations of books for parents. Please come to the Centre and ask to look through them and borrow what looks interesting. We would be pleased to be the central location for this “borrowing library”. If you have books other parents might be inter-ested in and you are finished with them, consider this sharing oppor-tunity.

2013 Social Leisure Youth Program (SLYP-Out) Announcement

The Saskatchewan Abilities Council, Regina Branch, Quality of Life Department is pleased to an-nounce the provision of the Social Leisure Youth Program for 2013.

The Regina Branch is aware of the challenges many families and youth with disabilities have in ac-cessing their community, and finding appropriate social, leisure, cultural and recreational activities during the year. The SLYP-Out program will again address a known need for more community based programming for youth and young adults with disabilities.

The SLYP-Out 2013 program will be delivered by session throughout the year and is intended for youth living with a disability in the 17 to 22 year age range.

North Regina Little League Challenger t-ball.

It’s a free league for all children up to age 18 to par-ticipate and have fun and it runs on Saturday or Sun-day mornings for an hour in May and June. Best of all it’s free! They ask that you sell $24 worth of raffle tickets but if someone couldn’t do that, I’m sure an-other parent could sell it for them.

This truly is a league for all children as we have blind children, children in wheelchairs and children of vary-ing abilities. Everyone plays, everyone has fun. Typ-ical siblings often help on game days if they want to be involved and supportive.

Challenger (ages 4 - 18) is specifically designed for mentally and physically challenged children and NRLL operates the Challenger Division on a City wide basis as NRLL is the only league offering this program in Regina.
