Dawood Ibrahim, wife test positive for coronavirus New Delhi: Under- world don Da- wood Ibrahim and his wife have test- ed positive for coronavirus, ac- cording to media reports quoting top government sources in Pakistan. Dawood’s personal staff and guards have been quarantined. Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, who was born in Dongri, Mumbai currently believed to be residing in Karachi and is one of India’s most wanted terrorist. Da- wood is accused of 1993 Bombay blasts and has several Interpol notice against him. Reports suggest D-Com- pany boss is currently undergoing treatment in Karachi’s military hospi- tal. Dawood Ibrahim’s wife, Meha- jabin has also tested positive for coro- navirus. Dawood was designated as a global terrorist in 2003 by India and the United States. New Delhi (UNI) Union Public Service Commission on Friday announced the revised dates for Civil Services Examinations (CSE) 2020. The exams were earlier postponed owing to outbreak of COVID-19 pan- demic and subsequent nationwide lockdown. As per the revised date sheet, the preliminary examination or the screening test will now be conducted on October 4, Sunday while the mains examination will commence from January 8, 2021. Also, the preliminary examina- tion of Indian Forests Services will also be conducted on October 4, but its mains examination will be held from February 28, 2021. The interviews or personality for the candidates who appeared in CSE 2019, which were suspend- ed due to COVID-19 situation, will resume from July 20, 2020 on- wards, the Commission said. As per the annual calendar, CSE preliminary examination 2020, was slated for May 31 while the main examinations from mid Sep- tember onwards. The Commission deferred the recruitment test for the posts of EO/AO in the Employees’ Provi- dent Fund Organisation, which was earlier scheduled to be held on the October 4, 2020. The new date will be published on the web- site of the Commission at the time of issue of calendar of Examina- tions/ Recruitment Tests for 2021, it said. The UPSC is designated body to conduct the CSE examinations for the selection of prestigious Indian Administration Services, Indian Foreign Services, Indian Police Services, Indian Forests Services and various Group ‘A’ Services. The examination consists of three stages—preliminary test, mains examination and interview and all the three are completed within a span of one year. It was told that reader’s son had returned from Mumbai on 1 June. It is alleged that reader kept his son at home and the he himself continued to come regularly to work at the court. After the report of the reader’s son came back positive, the entire judge colony has been declared con- tentment and screening has been started. Apart from this, sampling of the reader’s son and the judges in contact with the reader is also being done. It was told that a large number of lawyers have also come in contact with the reader. G7 expansion aimed at containing China:Global Times New Delhi (UNI) The Supreme Court on Friday reserved its order for June 9, Tuesday, in connection with the miseries and plights borne by migrant labourers due to Covid-19 crisis. A bench of Apex Court headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan, and also comprising of Justice SK Kaul and Jus- tice MR Shah heard the arguments from the centre, states, union territories and others on the migrants’ issue which which it had taken suo motu. During the hearing, the bench asked the concerned authorities to ferry all stranded migrants who are willing to go to their native states within 15 days. It also asked the states to create employment opportu- nities and provide relief to the returnees. “What we intend to do is give you and states 15 days time to transport all migrants. States should bring on record how they will provide employment and other kinds of relief to migrants who returned. There should be a registration of migrants,” Justice Ashok Bhushan told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. Bihar government told the court that it has already mapped the skill set of migrant workers who have re- turned. On ferrying migrants back, Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, senior law officer representing the central government, told the Apex Court that 90 per cent of mi- grant workers, who wanted to go back to their homes from workplaces, have been transported. Rest 10 per cent will be ferried in next two weeks. There were no deaths in the special trains (Shramik) due to lack of food, water or medication, Mehta told the court. In accordance with the guidelines, Indian railways de- ployed 4,270 Shramik trains, and approximately one crore migrants have reached their destination, the SG said. Of the total trains, 1,625 were destined for Uttar Pradesh. Mehta said that letters have been sent to Chief Secre- tariesof all the etates, asking how many workers still need to be transported and how many trains are required. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal asked, “what was the min- imum standard for food, water etc. Was it followed by state govt and monitored?” Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves said the registration system was not working. Migrants are getting frustrated and thus who want to go back is half than the actual numbers. The Apex Court said that the transportation of migrant workers cannot go on indefinitely. Justice Bhushan said all States should bring on record employments or relief they can provide to their migrant workers. The court also ordered list of migrant workers to be prepared village-wise for better implementation of schemes and relief measures. The petitioner, Avishek Goenka told the Apex court that the private hospitals are charging exorbitant fees from Covid patients making it inaccessible to many infected from the virus. The PIL also seeks time bound manner of mediclaim settlement by insurance companies minimum to the tune of govt approved rates. It al- so seeks direction to extend cashless facilities to all insured patients and other issues. The Apex Court bench, compris- ing of Justices M R Shah and V Ra- masubramanian, besides led by Jus- tice Bhushan, asked Solicitor Gener- al (SG) Tushar Mehta to file Centre’s response on putting an upper limit on fees to be charged by private hos- pitals for treating Covid patients. Another setback to Congress before Gujarat RS polls, third MLA resigns Gandhinagar (UNI): In another set- back to the main opposition Con- gress before the June 19 elections on the four Rajya Sabha seats from Gu- jarat, another party MLA has re- signed. Beijing (UNI)Chinese state controlled media has conveyed its un-

easiness about US President Donald Trump’s wish to havethe Group of Seven (G7) expanded into Group of Eleven(G11) by including India, Russia, Australia and South Ko-rea.

Out of these four countries it is India’s inclusion towhich the Chinese state controlled media has expressedmost opposition.

An article titled “India plays with fire spicing up G7 ex-pansion” published at the Chinese government mouthpiece Global Times in June 5 claimed that the move to in-clude India into the G7 is aimed at strategic containmentof China.

“The idea of G7 expansion carries geopolitical calcula-tions with an obvious attempt to contain China. The US iskeen on roping India in not only because the latter hasbecome the fifth-largest economy in the world, but alsobecause India is considered an important pillar for theUS’ Indo-Pacific Strategy. The US has long sought tostrengthen India’s role as a counterbalance to China inthe Indo-Pacific region.”

The article conveyed Chinese anxiousness at India’sinvolvement at Quadrilateral Strategic Dialogue and US’sIndo-Pacific Strategy.

“Since Modi began his second term, India’s attitudetoward China has changed. India decided to upgrade itsengagement with the Quadrilateral Strategic Dialogue, or“the Quad,” between India, Australia, Japan and the US,

at the ministerial level in September 2019. DuringTrump’s visit to India in February this year, the US andIndia said they would enhance their relations to the“comprehensive global strategic partnership level. Thismeans India has been ready to cooperate in implement-ing the US Indo-Pacific Strategy in exchange for US sup-port for its pursuit to hold the status of a major power,and other plans,” it said.

The article says that India is actively trying to expandthe Quad to include New Zealand, South Korea and Viet-nam and that India currently party to many US plansaimed at targeting China.

G7 expansion aimed at containing China: Global Times

New Delhi (UNI)The Supreme Court on Friday reserved its order for

June 9, Tuesday, in connection with the miseries andplights borne by migrant labourers due to Covid-19 crisis.

A bench of Apex Court headed by Justice AshokBhushan, and also comprising of Justice SK Kaul and Jus-tice MR Shah heard the arguments from the centre,states, union territories and others on the migrants’ issuewhich which it had taken suo motu.

During the hearing, the bench asked the concernedauthorities to ferry all stranded migrants who are willingto go to their native states within 15 days.

It also asked the states to create employment opportu-nities and provide relief to the returnees.

“What we intend to do is give you and states 15 daystime to transport all migrants. States should bring onrecord how they will provide employment and otherkinds of relief to migrants who returned. There should bea registration of migrants,” Justice Ashok Bhushan toldSolicitor General Tushar Mehta.

Bihar government told the court that it has alreadymapped the skill set of migrant workers who have re-turned.

On ferrying migrants back, Solicitor General (SG)Tushar Mehta, senior law officer representing the centralgovernment, told the Apex Court that 90 per cent of mi-grant workers, who wanted to go back to their homesfrom workplaces, have been transported. Rest 10 per centwill be ferried in next two weeks.

There were no deaths in the special trains (Shramik)due to lack of food, water or medication, Mehta told thecourt.

In accordance with the guidelines, Indian railways de-ployed 4,270 Shramik trains, and approximately onecrore migrants have reached their destination, the SGsaid.

Of the total trains, 1,625 were destined for UttarPradesh.

Mehta said that letters have been sent to Chief Secre-tariesof all the etates, asking how many workers still needto be transported and how many trains are required.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal asked, “what was the min-imum standard for food, water etc. Was it followed bystate govt and monitored?”

Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves said the registrationsystem was not working. Migrants are getting frustratedand thus who want to go back is half than the actualnumbers.

The Apex Court said that the transportation of migrantworkers cannot go on indefinitely.

Justice Bhushan said all States should bring on recordemployments or relief they can provide to their migrantworkers.

The court also ordered list of migrant workers to beprepared village-wise for better implementation ofschemes and relief measures.
