2017 Heart Walk General Information
The Oahu Heart & Stroke Walk is a great company/family event, offering either a 1 mile walk around Kapiolani Park or a
4.5 mile walk around Diamond Head. Last year there were over 4,000 walkers representing over 70 different
companies. After the walk there will be a free health fair with free hands only CPR training, free health screenings, live
entertainment, games and activities for children and much more!
REGISTRATION & SIGN UPS:
Q. How do you register for the Heart & Stroke Walk?
You can register online at www.oahuheartwalk.org or at the Heart Walk on August 12th at our registration tent.
Registration tent will open at 6:30am.
Q. Is there a fee to register in person?
No, there is no fee to register for the Heart Walk and you are able to register in person on the morning of the
event.
Q. How do you donate to the Heart & Stroke Walk?
Donations can be made online at www.oahuheartwalk.org or you can turn in cash and check donations at the
event at the registration and information table. All checks can be made to The American Heart Association.
Contributions are tax deductible.
Q. Is there an age limit for participants?
No, there is no age limit. Strollers are allowed on the course.
Q. What is the route for the Heart & Stroke Walk?
1 mile “Survivor Route” around Kapiolani Park to honor those that are heart disease and stroke survivors. We
also have a 4.5 mile walk around Diamond Head. Everyone starts together at Kapiolani Park promptly at
7:30am. You do not have to be a survivor to walk the 1 mile route- it is open to anyone.
SET UP & BREAKDOWN FOR THE EVENT:
Q. When can we setup our company tent that we are bringing on our own?
Friday August 11th 10:00am- 5:00pm or Saturday August 12th BEFORE 6:00am
Q. Where is our company tent going to be setup?
Please see the separate attachment with the park layout to see where your company tent is located
Q. Are there specific instructions on where we can unload the equipment for our tent?
Please see the attached company drop off instructions. All unloading on the lawn in Kings Carriage Way MUST
be completed by 6:00am on Saturday morning. There is absolutely no driving on the park grounds allowed
after this time.
Q. Can we bring a grill to use or have a lunch after the event is officially over?
Yes, you can. If you use oil or charcoals please note that dumping of cooking oil and/or used charcoals in and on
the parks grounds is prohibited. All cooking liquids that contain any amount of oil must be secured in sealed
containers; and any used charcoals are to be completely extinguished; and removed from the park for disposal.
Q. When can we start breaking down our company tent?
The Heart Walk is officially over at 11:00am and breakdown of the tents will begin at 11:30. Companies that
have brought their own tent can drive on the service road through Kings Carriage Way to break down their own
company tent between the hours of 11:15am- 2:00pm. If you and your company choose to stay and enjoy the
rest of the afternoon at the park please note that you are no longer a part of the AHA Oahu Heart Walk and that
there is absolutely no driving on the park grounds allowed after 2:00pm.
DAY OF THE EVENT:
Q. What time does the Heart & Stroke Walk begin?
Registration begins at 6:30am. The program begins at 6:30am starting off with check presentations for all the
sponsors. We will then have an “oli” or prayer and shortly after at 7:15am the warm up demo begins with the
Jazzercize team and Hawaii State Federal Credit Union Heart Walk Team to get all participants ready to begin the
walk promptly at 7:30am.
Q. Can I bring my dog?
Only service animals are allowed
Q. Will there be food and drinks provided?
Light refreshments will be provided to all participants. Subway is the National Sponsor of the AHA Heart Walk
and will be providing mini subway sandwiches at the finish line. There are two water stops on the 4.5 mile
course and water will be available to participants at the finish line.
Q. Is this a timed race?
No, it is not. Walking is optional and people can choose to do either the 1 mile or 4.5 mile walk. Last year
approximately 40% of the participants walked the 1 mile and 60% walked the 4.5 mile route.
