Editor’s Note

Since day one of SauceINK we knew this was going to be a long and tedious process. Every issue, we strive to... well, make the issue happen. The last couple of issues was per-haps the most successful ones of them all, unfortunately, the good times passed and we’re struggling once again.

In this issue, you’d notice new names in our credits page and old ones gone. Due to the change in management, once again, we are in the process of restructuring.

All that said, let’s get to the good part!

Do you own a convertible dress? Are you having difficulty fig-uring out how to dress yourself up in it? Well, in this issue, Valerie Tang the founder of mylittlebow shares with us 10 dif-ferent ways to wear the convertible dress! Also, in a separate interview, we discussed a little about why we should all have our very own personalised named necklace.

Personally, I do not have my very own named necklace yet, but thanks to both mylittlebow and MyNameNecklace, I’m go-ing to have two!

Carrie Bradshaw is a huge inspiration to me from the very beginning. In life and style (hopefully), I aspire to be anything and everything like her, and that includes having my very own named necklace. It’s hard to imagine it took me so long to get it.

Another recent addiction is Fashion Chalet! The blog is run by Erika Marie (and let it be known, we are Facebook friends, I kid you not), Cuban/French/Spanish stylist who is in love with all things fashion, photography and modeling.

They say great minds think alike, as I write to all of you with Carrie Bradshaw in mind, Erika goes off and does a style shoot!

“The first time that I saw the Sex and the City series, I was of course enthralled. The image of Carrie Brad-shaw’s tutu in the opening sequence may have been controversial for some but definitely iconic to me. It de-fined fashion as fun. That’s how I like to look at dressing up, a time to become a different character on a whim. To this day (and for many years to come, I’m sure) Sex and The City will continue to inspire women... and her love of shoes. Now tell me, what do you think of my new balletic skirt?”

The Kate Middleton guide to becoming a princess

“Becoming Royal”

April 29, 2011 marked the beginning of a fairytale marriage of blue-blood Prince William and Kate Middleton, a commoner, as the British uppity class refers to her. She was a regular girl by birth, and through marriage, was transformed into royalty.

However, Kate knew that the path she had chosen - to become a princess, and possibly the future Queen of England - contains many difficulties. But with the help of many royal consultants (and it also did not hurt that she had an innate sense of style), she seems to be han-dling the pressure really well. Sure she has made a few tumbles before, but we can learn from them, as Kate did.

How does Kate Middleton do it? Be-low contains a guide to Royal Fashion and the Royal Manner, Kate Middleton style. Since we all cannot be princesses, that does not mean that we cannot act and dress like one. Who knows? Maybe like Kate, we can get lucky as well.

Tip #1: Three words: Understated, elegant and flawless. No neon colours, uber trendy frocks or outlandish hair styles for Kate, s’il vous plait. She has always opted for a polished, classic look with a bit of an edge in it so it is never boring. This properly suits the preferences of the Royal Family and has caused them to approve of the new addition to their brood.

From Top to Bottom: The red and black combination made for a simple coat to a fabulous fashion statement. The pretty beige, white and black jacket and jeans ensemble was casual and classy at the same time.

Tip #2:

Beware of the paparazzi. When you’re dating someone as important as the future king of England, you have to be on your toes all the time. You cannot be caught unaware and allow the paparazzi to take a picture and remind you of your goofy, awkward stage, all your life.

Kate made a monumental mistake to lose her poise for the paparazzi in a Charity event with a roller skating theme where attendees were made to go around the party, in yes, roller skates! She took a tumble in a green halter and horrendous neon yellow short shorts ensemble for everyone to see and to immortalise through photos. Since then, Kate has learned not to put herself in a similar situation. However, it would be safe to bet how she wished she learned this lesson sooner.

Tip #3:

Watch your mouth.Be careful of your choice of words, especially when you’re in the presence of the Queen. Kate has been chastised to using the world “toilet” instead of “restroom” in front of the Queen. From then on, Kate has been mindful of every word that she utters. If we would like to be a princess, we ought to think, not once, but a number of times of what we say and do. We should always be polite, courteous and gracious. Always say, “please”, “thank you” and “you’re welcome” and speak in subdued and calm tones. No screaming and loud mouths for princesses, thankyouverymuch.

22

Page 23: SAUCEink Magazine, Issue 2

Tip #4:

Stand by your man.As a princess, you know that your man is a very important man. He may be the future King, ruler of a whole nation of peoples for crying out loud! Therefore, you must be aware of the tremendous responsibility that you have to the public as future Queen. Everything you say and do reflects of the future leader of the nation in front of the whole world.

You have to always keep in mind that you must always be there to support your man in all his endeavours, like how Kate does.

Before the royal wedding, Kate left her position in her family owned business, Party Pieces, to plan the wedding details. Af-ter the wedding, she will become a normal housewife to Prince William in a small cottage in North Wales, where the Prince will see out his posting as a search and rescue helicopter pilot. As his fiancée, Kate has accompanied Prince William to various speaking and routine public appearance engagements without complaints. Her charisma in these events has also won the public’s heart too many times.

There you have it, everything you need to know about becoming a full-fledged princesses. Try to follow the above tips so you will muster the grace, elegance and poise worthy of a princess. Who knows? Maybe you’ll get a chance to put that tiara on the crown of your head on your wedding day as Kate did. Good luck!

My Fashion PersonalitiesBy esther Xie

to standout from the crowd, many tend to stick to one style they either like or works for them. it’s like a fashion personality of sort, a unique identity, a differentiation factor... you get the picture.

I on the other hand, do not have this supposed “fix style” or identity so they call it. I pick my outfits based on my mood and I love experimenting on variety of styles. Favouritism isn’t something i play. in a way, you can say my fashion personality is the variety in which i present to the world! What’s more unique then ever-changing?

i bet you’re curious what i have up my sleeve, yeah?

let me just show you my world of fashion!

1. Sunshine GirlSummer reminds me of bright and vibrance, much like Spring fashion, to a certain extend. I particularly love bright cheerful colours! It gives out a happy vibe!

26

Page 27: SAUCEink Magazine, Issue 2

2. Cute JapaneseThe Japanese fashion is ever-evolving. They have the Lolita, the Punk Rock, the Goth... and the cutie style that I adore, but avoid. I love the style but it’s a little “too much” for me, or rather the public to handle.

There’s no resisting floral patterns and chiffon. But of course, I’m not dead set on just chiffon, other fabrics can work just as well. But really, who can resist floral? It gives out this subtle vintage vibe.

3. Femininely Floral

4. Sweet & GirlyWhen you think of sweet and girly, “pink” just somehow finds its way into the combination.

Although I don’t play favouritism, there’s no denying I frequent this style more than any other. I wouldn’t say it defines me, but it’s easy, and suits my character.

www.SauceINK.com

27

Page 28: SAUCEink Magazine, Issue 2

5. MatureLooking matured doesn’t necessary mean throwing on a smart suit; fitted dresses does the trick too. It’s more about how you package the whole look rather than relying on one particular element.

7. Glam

6. Simple CasualWearing simple doesn’t mean you just throw on some top from god knows which decade paired with some torn jeans. That said, torn jeans were pretty hyped at one point. Simple and causal just means less accessories, patterns and layering. It’s a plus if it’s comfortable.

If occasion doesn’t call for the need to dress up, there’s really no point to go all glamourous. This is just a sunny little island after all. I like it, but I’m not about to overdo it.

8. BohemianSomething different would be the boho-style, for me at least. This style leans more towards beachy, quirky or kitschy. The style is re-ally catching on these days.

Here’s a tip, to complete a look like this, match some bronze and earth-tone accessories!

Makeup in a HURR Y!

By Fidelis Toh

Your alarm is ringing, you’re snuggling comfortably in bed – you’re too tired.Oh... just another 5 minutes of sleep pretty please. Snooze snooze...CRAP! You’re left with 20 minutes to get dolled up and fly out of the house to head to work!!!

I’m sure that happens to everyone at least once or twice in their lifetime. Happens very frequently for me thou, always lack of sleep and just can’t bear to snap out from the warmth of my bed.

If you’re left with 20 minutes, your hair looks like crap but you have absolutely no time to wash + dry + blow + style it... HOW?! What to do?!

Ok, for the makeup part:Your makeup base and sunblock are the two most important products you must have on no matter what!

Without any protection, your skin would burn within 10 minutes under the afternoon sun, so sunblock is essential to and protect your skin from the harmful UV rays!

Your makeup base ensures that you have a smooth base before you apply your foundation, some makeup base have redness correcting, oil control properties so you should not skip your makeup base, thankfully there are many products that combines both makeup base and sunblock in one bottle, so you can skip one step and save time!

I recommend the Ettusais Base Version Up UV SPF 20 PA+ (SGD41) as it has light coverage to cover up little blemishes/redness, sun protection of SPF 20 PA+ and creates a smooth canvas before you apply your foundation!

Whenever I’m pressing for time I would prefer a powder foundation or 2-way cake instead of liquid foundation. With liquid foundation you still have to set a layer with a transparent loose powder, might as well skip one more step and save more time!

After you’re done with your base, apply bronzer to sculpt those cheekbones and add warmth to your skin.

38

Page 39: SAUCEink Magazine, Issue 2

I’m using the SmashBox Bronze Light Duo and a fluffy kabuki brush.

Make this funny face and apply bronzer along this line to sculpt your cheeks and add warmth to your skin, apply some on your jawline and a wee bit on the bridge of your nose too.

Then apply a peach/pink blush on the apples of your cheek.

Draw your brows, even if you’re freshly crawling out of bed, tired as hell, drawing your brows never fail to give you the “awake” look.

Draw your eyeliner to define your peeps, apply glue to your falsies, while waiting for the glue to dry (the glue gets stickier and easier to apply when the glue is left to dry for awhile) apply your mascara on your lower lashes!

Apply a pinky tinted lip gloss, my current favourite is the Nivea Visage Pinkish Boost, which has SPF 15. It moisturises your lips while giving your pouts a cute pinkish tint!

For the hair:Spritz some water/hair styling spray, I’m using the Kracie hair styling spray for bob/bouncy hair.

Flip your hair upside down and blow dry your hair outwards for more volume.

ALL DONE!

This is my daily morning routine and I take 20 min-utes to get out of the house!
