Wally Cook Although we have only known both Wa lly and Jea nn e a short while, we had built up quitet a repour over the past few years and was del ighted when Wally (as usual) was running late with his Club report for the SA V decided to bring it all the way over to us and del iver it personally. What was to be just a drop off turned out to be a marvellous night of Square dance History and told in a way that only Wa lly can tell it ( with many corrections by Jeanne). Even though in comparative terms we are new to Square Dancing , Wally has had an influence on us. As a collector of old folk group records (the vynal type) and in particular the "Weavers", was in a used record store and asked if they had any of these particu lar recordings , "Under that bench there's a box with some folk records and some strange records with music on one side only" was the reply from the gruff cigar smoking attendant Yes you guessed it , Square Dance Records , and one was a record i ng~

one Wally Cook. I then become the proud owner of my very first Square Dance record for the price of .50 cents. A bargain you may think, yes it was that day, but the records purchased that day must be related to the clothes hangers in ou r wardrobe as they have steadily multiplied ever since. I was hooked, and I blame Wally and that very first record . However, as, like many, was unable to get tickets to the retirement funct ion we wish to wish Wally & Jeanne all the best in their retirement and you are most welcome to visit again and continue with all those stories of days gone by.

Kevin & Barbara .

fJ~REC' . '" fJNh~ We have now had a good look at the new showcases particularly the " v v> start of My Everything . All agreed this is a very nice dance when done with the correct hand holds. Besides this, we have included some old dances in the program, and added several new ones. Some needed a bit of work, others have been "cue and do" dances. Based on the dancer reaction , some will become regulars on the program, and the trial of new dances will continue. Notable popular new dances are "A Quarter at a Time" and " My Maria" - a somewhat different Cha . Remember there is no club in June, but we hope to see everyone at the VCA Round Dance Afternoon on June 29th Nice to have Pat & Brian join us, Greg & Wendy ha~ come back to Round Dancing after a few years break, to fit that they had not forgot that much ,

TWIN CITY TWIRLERS Albury - Wodonga Caller: Eric Larrad 060255422

It's been a busy month for us. First we had a bike ride from Poopunkal to Bright, what a magnificent sight, all the trees golden yellow and reds of varying shades, we picnic'd in the park at Bright then it was back to Poopunkal. We've had two demo's this month, the first at Lavington Square, very well received , but by far the demo at the VP Nursing home gave us all the

greatest pleasure. The folk there tapped their feet and sang along and they served us afternoon tea. Young Gemma was a hit when she handed out the round little Pressies, We would all love to go back there . See you all at the Convention in June.

Not only his durability shone over that period of years , giving a lot too Square Dancing , Presenting a great amount of enterta inment, including many records and tapes . We hope he Calls at the "Watering Hole" form time to time because I'm sure go ing to miss his Hoedowns and of cou rse his "Chair". I'm sure no one will take his cha ir, Because it wasn 't his chair after all. It was a great farewell on the 10th May.96 at Wally 's end of club Call ing celebration , there were a lot of sen ior dancers to make it a fabulous night for all in attendance and his Caller compatriots put on a wonderful performance.
