Software Upgrade Overview

Release PBX 5.2.1 is a release for the Savant Systems telephony solution. This release contains all the functionality of previous releases which were packaged with Release PBX 5.2. This document addresses new hardware and software, and a system software upgrade (see PBX Software Upgrade). If you are using Safari® to download the software from the Savant dealer portal, please refer to Using Safari® Browser to Download in this document (page 7).

The next table provides installers with the required software upgrade package to be installed to upgrade their Savant PBX

system. To upgrade to PBX 5.2.1 ensure that your Savant PBX system is running Release PBX 5.2—see PBX 5.2 - Release ReadMe (009-0858-00.)

Development Environment RequirementsThe minimum requirements for a development environment (MacBook laptop) using Release PBX 5.2.1 are the same as da Vinci Release 5.2.1. Please see the da Vinci 5.2.1 - Release ReadMe (009-0938-00).

Issue Description

34378When the Savant app is locked or backgrounded, an audio file of more than 30 seconds cannot be played. Custom mp3 files also cannot be played. This is an iOS limitation. The default ringtone will be played in these scenarios.

Modified• In Adding a Savant Wired IP Phone as a Phone (page 67), the following new fields were added:

Field Description

Ring Profile Select a ring profile from the list. If no ring profile created, leave it as Default.

Contacts For TEL-HST01 and TEL-HST02 models only. Insert a check mark if you want all the devices in the system are shown in this phone’s directory.

Intercom Directory For TEL-HST02 models only. Insert a check mark if you want soft Busy Lamp Field (BLF) buttons are created for every device in the system on this phone.

Disable Missed Call Indicator For TEL-HST01 and TEL-HST02 models only. Insert a check mark if you don’t want the phone to show there is missed call at all.

• Adding Voice Mail to a Savant PBX now includes two sections on setting up (page 85):

• Booting the Base Station has been updated to note that the TFTP file name that must be used when configuring base

PBX SOFTWARE UPGRADEThis section describes the procedure for upgrading the Savant PBX (SPX-1000) to Release PBX 5.2.1 from Release PBX 5.2.

Duration of Procedure: 15 minutes

To install Release PBX 5.2.1, you must upgrade from Release PBX 5.2 system software.

To check the current version installed on the Software Development Environment (SDE), do the following.

1. Open Finder.

2. Open the home folder in the left pane of the window under Places.

3. Navigate to Applications > RacePoint Media > System Monitor.

4. The System Monitor icon will appear on the dock at the bottom of the screen.

5. Right click the System Monitor icon.

6. A popover will open. Select Options > Keep in Dock.

7. The System Monitor icon will remain in the dock for easy access.

8. Open the System Monitor, check the Version field for the Device Type (for example the next screenshot shows the version daVinciPBX2.0.0 for PhoneSystem).

One-Click Software Update in Savant ConfiguratorTo upgrade the Savant PBX software from Release PBX 5.2 to Release PBX 5.2.1, users must update the Savant PBX system software using an option available in Savant Configurator.

To upgrade your Savant PBX to Release PBX 5.2.1, do the following.

1. Copy the file, PBX5.2.1.13-1.Upgrade, to the SDE. You must use Mozilla Firefox® or Google Chrome™ to download this file from the Savant Dealer Portal, or if using Safari® do the procedure, Using Safari® Browser to Download.

2. Open Savant Configurator and click the Overview tab

3. From the left sidebar, click Software Update (as circled in the next screenshot).

4. Click Choose File.

5. Browse for the file, PBX5.2.1.13-1.Upgrade, then click Choose.

6. Click Upload.

At this point the system should upgrade the Savant PBX software. The status will be displayed in the Install Results area.

The Savant PBX will reboot after the upgrade is completed and the Install Results area will become empty once the reboot starts.

If the PBX does not auto-reboot, do a power cycle manually. See Manual Power Cycle.

7. Wait for the system to become active. This could take as much as 10 minutes. It is normal that the PBX can be pinged but the web user interface cannot be opened before the system is fully ready. Do not reboot during this time.

8. When the system is active, confirm in System Monitor that the Version field for the Device Type <PhoneSystem> shows PBX5.2.1.13-1.

In Savant Configurator if you see the following message in the Install Results area, your Savant PBX software was upgraded:

****************************************************** System has the latest update. Good-bye. ******************************************************

In Savant Configurator if you see the following message in the Install Results area, your Savant PBX software is an earlier version and needs to be updated to PBX5.2.0.12:1 first. See PBX 5.2 - Release ReadMe (009-0858-00.)

****************************************************** In order to apply this update, the system has ** to run PBX5.2.0.12:1 * *****************************************************

Manual Power CycleIf the Savant PBX (SPX-1000) does not auto-reboot after powering down, do the following.

Open Terminal and type this command: ping <Savant PBX IP address>

If the ping times out after 10 minutes, manually power down the SPX-1000 then power it up.

Using Safari® Browser to Download

When the RacePoint Blueprint™ upgrade files on the Savant Systems Dealer Portal are downloaded using Safari®, the file uncompresses itself. This makes the upgrade files unusable.

To ensure that the upgrade file does not automatically uncompress when using the Safari browser, do the following prior to downloading the RacePoint Blueprint upgrade files.

1. From the Safari menu, select Preferences.

2. Select General.

3. At the bottom of the General window, ensure that the check box for the following is unchecked:

Open "safe" files after downloading.
