LOCAL PRODUCE
The Produce Department is the foundationof our stores. We believe in the importance of supporting local farmers and each of our Produce Managers have long-established partnerships with local growers. Unlike other stores, we carry a full lineof both organic and conventional produceto offer the widest selection possible. Our commitment to quality and value goes all the way back to when our founder, Steve Maass, ran his roadside produce stands.
“At Oliver’s Market, our roots are in fresh produce. In 1972, my wife, Ruthie Maass and I, began selling produce from the back of a truck in San Francisco, CA. We converted an old Coca-Cola truck into a mobile fruit stand, which became a retail phenomenon every summer at Taraval and Dewey Streets. The stand was so successful that we hired valets to park cars and the stand was featured on Eye on San Francisco and Good Morning America. Later, in 1988, we moved to Sonoma County and opened Oliver’s Market.” --Steve Maass
