i. Historical Background

The Asia – Pacific Youth Forum held in Taipei, Taiwan ROC on May 15-20, 1995 with the

theme: Environmental Education and Youth Development which was participated by 35 countries, inspired Philippine Delegate and the National 4-H Club of the Philippines Inc. Executive Vice President and official representative Edwin Chinel Monares, to conceptualize an organization that will propagate and put into reality the output of the conference.

The ASEAN Youth day meeting IV held in the Philippines on August 4-9, 1995 with the theme: ASEAN Gearing Towards Sustainable Development in the year 2000 was an opportunity for Mr. Edwin Monares, DA Representative, to present the concept in a proposal concerning the youth’s involvement in addressing environmental and ecological problems affecting the region, in general, and the Philippines, in particular. These two international conferences paved the way for the founding of the Students’ Action Vital to the Environment and Mother Earth Movement.

He established the mother chapter in the Philippine Polytechnic University. Since its establishment in August 16 of 1995 and its formal founding on January 31, 1996, the Movement has grown in terms of its sphere of advocacy. Since the Commission on Higher Education endorse the establishment of the SAVE ME Movement in the different tertiary schools in the whole country on January 26, 1996, community and in-school chapters in National Capital Region, Region 2, Region 3, Region 4, Region 5, Region 6, Region 7 and Region 8, and Region 9 has been organized. Region 4 alone has eleven (11) chapters. The Movement has been in the forefront of advocating for sustainable development. It has network with organizations and government agencies with parallel advocacy.

ARTICLES FEATURING SAVE ME AND SAVE ME MOVERS

“Planting a tree is essential to youth participants”(www.youthpinoy.com)

Manila, Sept. 12, 2011- In a tree planting organized by the Youth Commission of CBCP and Care Foundation, 50 youth people from the diocese of Antipolo together with the mentioned concerns planted trees for the celebration of the National Tree Planting day, a project of the said commission. Young people had their unique stories to tell about their experiences during the trek to the site and the planting itself. Experiences to share: Jon Karl Estanislao, a 2nd year high school student shared that even if there is hardship in climbing the mountain, it was fun doing it. “Pahirapan sa pag-akyat pero masaya. Ayos lang po na mahirapan kasi ginagawa po naming ito para sa kalikasan at para sa susunod na henerasyon”, Estanislao shared Estanislao planted 4 seedlings and for him, it was enough to meet the needs of Mother Earth but still, he will continue to plant more trees. For his part, Ivan Jefferson Ogana, 12 years old, looks to the idea that planting a tree is important for the environment. Ogana and Estanislao are students from Nuestra Senora de Aranzazu Parochial School in San Mateo Rizal.

ARTICLES FEATURING SAVE ME AND SAVE ME MOVERS

“Planting a tree is essential to youth participants”(www.youthpinoy.com)

Another participant, Mark Joseph San Nicolas, a youth from St. John the Baptist Parish in Taytay, Rizal said that the goal of joining the event is to plant. Estanislao, Ogana and San Nicolas had one idea on mind, to plant trees in order to help the environment and for future generations to come. Other feedbacks Gilbert Lorenzo from St. John the Baptist Parish Taytay, Rizal said that climbing the mountain has something to share to them.

Meanwhile, two participants who are high school students from Nuestra Senora de Aranzazu Parochial School said that they are lucky. Jeannen Manahan shared that other than the positive experience, there is also the negative part especially when she nearly collapsed during the climbing of the mountain.

“Yun experience ko is both positive and negative. For Clarice Magbuo said that they are gifted than the youngsters living in the mountain.

Care Foundation headed by the director thinks that there is still hope from young people in this generation. Alfredo Albor said. When asked about his message to the youth participants, Fr. The Episcopal Commission on Youth together with the Executive Secretary, Fr. Conegundo Garganta hopes that may be more than the expected 1 million quotas will be planted at the end of the celebration of YOTY. Garganta also said that their aim is not just to plant trees but also to take care of it.

The education of the hearts and minds of the people to instill greater awareness of, concern for, and responsibility to the imperative of sustainable life on earth.”

Edukasyon! The education of the hearts and minds of the people to instill greater awareness of, concern for, and responsibility to the imperative of sustainable life on earth.

Pinamagatan itong “Economics, SAVE ME Movement Leadership Institute.”

• Please Give Me a 30-minute Break• Ako ay Handa• Gawad KKK• Paper Retriever System• Plant a tree, Earn a degree• Reduce, Reuse, Recycle• No Trashcan Policy• Green Wall of NSDAPS• How Long Can You Live? (anti-smoking awareness)• Fashionista de Vazura• Mold It With Your Hands• Luntiang Araw• Rainwater Harvesting• Magtanim, magwagi (Community Awareness Program)• Timba-timbang papremyo (Community Awareness Program)• Switch-off Panalo (Community Awareness Program)

ARTICLES FEATURING SAVE ME AND SAVE ME MOVERS

“SAVE ME Movement – Tagapangalaga ng Paaralan”(Pugal, Jethro)
