JPEG: This is one of the most common file types for saving photos. Most digital cameras automatically store your photos as jpegs and almost all computers are able to open them. But this file type is referred to as “lossy” and will cause your photo to continue to lose quality over time. Every time you resave your photo as a jpeg, it loses more of it’s pixel information, resulting in lower quality images. Use jpegs when: Saving photos to be used in smaller projects such as brochures, or articles PSDs & TIFFs: A psd file is an Adobe Photoshop file. If you have access to Photoshop, it is a good idea to save an original copy of your photo as a psd, because it will preserve its quality. One down side to psds is that they can only be opened on a computer with Adobe Photo- shop software installed on it. A tiff file can be opened on most computers and it also preserves photo quality.
