As you can see on page 6, outdoor weddings are a big trend for 2012 and what better way to celebrate your big day than in a beautiful, unique tipi. Incredibly versatile, tipis offer a fabulous solution for an outdoor wedding all year round, whether a summers day with the sun shining or a cold winters day with the fire pit glowing. A tipi wedding isn't some-thing you experience very often so why not break with tradition and make your wedding a day and night to remember! We were given the challenge of work-ing with a selection of amazing, local suppliers, along with the guys at Peak Tipis to transform their beautiful mobile 'venues' into two different themes. A classic wedding theme with a hint of winter and a vintage rustic theme - here's the outcome!

To create these stylish additions for your wedding day, we hand you over to the creative and talented Emily Carlill. "I got married to my lovely husband, Pete, in June of this year. We wanted to make our wedding very 'us' and I had seen these pom poms on other wedding blogs and just thought they looked really effective so decided to make them myself for my big day! They instantly added so much colour and looked amazing, everyone thought we had bought them! I've since had lots of people emailing me to ask how to make them, so I wrote a little tutorial."

What you will need. • Eight sheets of tissue paper per Pom Pom (I used paper of size 75cm x 50cm but you can use any – this just determines the end size of your pom pom, the bigger the tissue paper, the bigger your pom pom!). You can use sheets of the same colour – or you can do a multi-coloured one if you like! • Florist Wire (I just bought some off the internet although I think string tied nice and tight would do the same job.) • Scissors • Nylon Thread (if you want them to look like they are floating! If not, string will do)

Get foldin'Lay the eight sheets of tissue paper together on a flat surface. Starting at one end, fold the paper (all sheets) to roughly 3.5 to 4cm wide (this doesn’t have to be that accurate). Continue folding the paper like this, one way then the next, into concertina folds.

Get securin'Once you have your paper all folded, wrap the florist wire or string around the centre to secure it.

Get snippin'Get your scissors and trim the ends so they are more rounded than square – you might get sore hands a little doing this as it can be a bit tricky cut-ting through the thickness of the folded paper! Don’t worry either if it is not super neat as you can’t tell once they are all puffed out.

Gently peel each layer of tissue paper open, away from the next layer until you have completed one side. These can tear really easy – don’t worry too much though as you can’t see small tears once all the layers are puffed out.

Get hangin'Once all the layers are puffed out and you have made some final tweaks to the layers (imagine a hairdresser fluffing with your hair!) you are ready to tie the nylon thread or string where the centre is tied (I have used a purple ribbon in these photos just so you can see it better) – this is where florist wire might be easier to use.

Get puffin'Start in one side of the centre tie and open the folds out – a bit like a fan. This just makes the next bit a little easier.

Do the same for the other side.

Abigail and Tim Plant were married on Saturday 1st October 2011 at St Mary's Church in Cromford followed by a reception at Alison House. Here is what the beautiful bride has to say about her big day:

"We both love Matlock and its beautiful scenery and we couldn’t imagine anywhere more fitting to get married. The interior of St Marys Church is by far the most beautiful I have ever seen.

Alison House Hotel is a 16 bedroom Georgian House situated in 7 acres of land and boasting impressive gardens and stunning views of the Derbyshire Dales rolling hills. We booked a package whereby we could have exclusivity of the whole house for the weekend, this really appealed to us as it meant all our key guests could arrive on Friday and be settled and relaxed ready for the wedding on Saturday. They were also happy for me to totally plan, hire and organise the whole day myself. The staff were amazing and their service was outstanding. I always dreamed of having a very fitted dress, I wanted to feel sophisticated and elegant but also bridal.

Typical girl, I travelled the length and breadth of the UK and I found my dress less than 1/2 mile away from my front door at the 'The Little White Dress' in West Bridgford, Nottingham. From the moment I walked in Amy, the owner made me feel at ease. I tried on a few dresses and very quickly I fell in love with a designer called Cymberline, a Parisian designer. Amy had a couple of dresses from this collection in stock however she told me that I would love a dress that was due in 6 weeks called the ' Emea Dress' (also known as the Dubai dress). It was vintage lace, fitted, with a fish tail train. Amy as it proves knew her stuff. Six weeks later I received a call to say it had arrived and did I want to be the first person to try it on. My mum was visiting that day so we rushed over and within seconds of slipping it on, my heart dropped, I looked at myself in the mirror and knew it was then one. It was magical that my mum was there to share that moment and I am so grateful to Amy for making the whole experience so enjoyable.

We got engaged in Koh Lanta in Thailand in January 2011 so we had the idea of having an Asian influence running throughout the whole day. We fused Indian, Moroccan and Thai cultures throughout the decor. The reception was held in a large Indian tent set in the grounds of Alison House. I chose an Indian lining for the tent which tied in with our colour scheme and a low mango wood furniture package including a 'Rock the Kasbah' style props such as shish pipes, lanterns and candles. The garden paths were lined with wooden oil burners and Moroccan lanterns which helped create a beautiful glow across the grounds. I also had a large fire pit area so our guests could chill out sitting around it later at night. Having worked in events over the past 10 years I pulled in a few favours and I managed to get extra lanterns, props, Balinese umbrellas, Indian lei's, elephants, Buddha’s etc . What I couldn’t beg, borrow or buy, I made. The table plan and menu board were my favourite creation, I spent hours making what would have cost at least triple what I made it for. We served the food on square plates and slate boards. Using traditional Moroccan coffee glasses, chopsticks and Indian Kharni tree's ( spinning heated curry servers) which sat in the middle of each table, we hired everything from suppliers all over the country. I really wanted to make it feel as authentic as possible. We also served complimentary Mai Thai Cocktails and Shinga Beer all night instead of wine as it accompanied the spicy food selection. My little creative brain went into overdrive planning this wedding and looking back these little touches are what feel made it so special and personal to us. As most guests were staying the weekend we had a Friday night pre wedding party. We hired a gorgeous little country pub for the evening. It

was a great and an inexpensive way of getting most of our 100 guests to meet up and more importantly it gave us a chance to actually speak to them. On the wedding day we had quite a few quirky Asian surprises. Our wedding car was a bright blue Tuc Tuc, we had the 'Order of Services' made and designed in India, we had Indian drummers playing throughout the welcome drinks at the reception and they also drummed us into the tent for the wedding breakfast. All the food was decorated with 100's of brightly coloured edible flowers from Maddocks Organic farm in Devon. I ordered bamboo leaves from an Asian supplier to line the plates with and we made our own mango infused vodka. At the end of the meal everyone was given a cold lemon scented hand towel to refresh with. The wedding favours for the ladies were either an Indian jewellery box or photo frame with champagne truffles inside and a token for a free temporary Henna tattoo. I hired two Indian Henna artists - our guests loved this as it meant they had something to remember the evening by. The boys each had a Buddha Bar CD which Tim had compiled. I am known for my love of fancy dress parties so to add a bit of humour to the reception I set up a 'Photo Booth' area, containing a chaise lounge with an old suitcase full of daft hats, wigs and comedy glasses.

It simply was the best day of my life. I enjoyed every minute of it. I am so happy to have married the most amazing man I have ever met."

Having married in August, Louise Mercieca knows what runs through a womans mind as she approaches her wedding day. Amongst the numerous practical considerations such as menu choices, flowers and seating plans, the bride also wants to look and feel amazing as she takes centre stage!

As a recent bride, retrained in this new career and armed with a combination of enthusiasm, knowledge about exercise and the merits of a healthy balanced diet, Louise feels she is well placed to support 'brides to be' on their journey to the altar.

Louise has recently launched her own business named 'The Health Kick' and is launching her Bridal Bootcamps in the Spring of 2012. Market research showed there wasn't anything out there which offered the support, fun and social aspects that group exercise with other 'brides to be' can offer, as well as a programme of guidance and advice tailored to the individual.

The group bootcamps are one hour sessions using a mix of cardio vascular, weights and yoga exercises - all tailored to bring benefit to participants with the opportunity to share wedding experiences before and afterwards too!

Louise sets these sessions up at locations across the East Midlands and is speaking to a number of wedding venues about basing bridal bootcamps there too, so depending on where you've booked there may even be the added bonus/incentive of working out at the place you will be having your big day and spending more time there. Here, our resident photographer Rachael Connerton talks about her day spent with the lovely Rebecca at Floraldeco;

“As a photographer, I love meeting like-minded creative people who clearly fizz with passion for flowing design, beautiful colour tones and natural style. Rebecca at ‘Floraldeco’ is one such person and I had the pleasure of spending some time with her to get to know her business.

Rebecca’s enthusiasm and attention to detail really shines in the way she works with her clients. Continually inspired by brides and grooms, she collaborates closely with them to produce a look that fits perfectly with the style of the day.

On day one of our afternoon together, I arrived to find a procession of beautiful china teapots lined up, ready to be incorporated into the overall design which Rebecca was about to work on. On day two, I spied boxes of spotlessly shiny candelabras, all polished and ready to be worked on for a large wedding at Stapleford Park that weekend. I loved watching her transform each idea into an absolutely stunning centrepiece, both very different, but equally successful.

Rebecca chatted happily as she worked outside in her lovely garden.

I asked Rebecca what she had chosen for the flowers for her own wedding. She laughed and explained that if she was to have her time again, she’d go soft and pretty, with a cottage garden theme, delicate herbs and foliage and very unstructured.
