    Hello All!

Just a couple of items from your Controller. The

system generated double finance charges on the latest

statement. Please feel free to let me know if your

account shows double. I will be running a report to

find all accounts and credit the second charge.

Thank you all for your patience with me during my

transition and learning here at Fox Hill. There are

still a couple of things I am learning and a few things

I will be streamlining for the future. It is a pleasure

working with everyone and I look forward to a

    smoother year!

As I write this article, the weather is again the most preferred topic of conversation. Were

closing in on almost two full months of snow cover. Looking back, this is the second time in

my 15 years at the Club that we have had the course closed this long due to snow cover. This

past week of temperatures in the 50’s has helped melt a lot of the snow; however, another

snow storm is about to get going and cover the course yet again. I am certain the weather

will turn and the golf season will provide much needed relief from the cabin fever we all

    have.

As we start the big meltdown we will most likely see some snow mold damage, but it should

be limited to fairways and rough areas (late fall we applied a preventative snow mold

application to greens, approaches, and tees). Snow mold affects all turfgrass when there are

extended periods of snow cover and the severity of the damage will depend on the number of

days we remain under snow cover. We have been spot-checking areas on the greens and

    everything looks good!!!

    For those who are interested:

There are two types of snow mold—

Gray snow mold requires snow cover for infection to occur and looks like circular bleached patches. The grass

is usually matted and surrounded by a white/gray halo.

(Picture taken from Oregon State Extension)

Pink snow mold, unlike gray snow mold does not require snow cover but thrives in wet, cool conditions. This

type would most likely occur during the melting process.

  • Lastly, I would like to congratulate Assistant Superintendent, Cole Barton and his

wife Michele on the new addition to their family. Elle Jaye Barton was welcomed

into the world on December 30th.

    See you on the course,

    Your Superintendent,

    Rich Parker

  • MGA News Just when you thought it was over…more snow. The golf gods teased us a bit last week with

warm weather and the prospect of the course opening. Only to be brought back to reality

with another round of snow. Well, in the meantime, this gives us a chance to further prepare

for the upcoming golf season. So far your MGA board has issued an MGA survey and met 3

times to discuss the results and plan out the 2016 MGA season.

The survey went out in December, and we had what we would consider to be a very good

response. The results were interesting. We will present an overview at the Opening MGA

Event in April, but we can relay a few themes that came out of the responses. Two major

    themes were consistently mentioned:

Communication: The MGA members want more information and increased communication.

Additionally, the responses requested that the information comes early and often. What is the

schedule of events? What is the format of the events? As a response to this issue, the MGA

Board is committing to increased communications and will do so by:

Generating a booklet, before the season starts, that has detailed information on all MGA

tournaments. The booklet will be distributed at the Opening Event in April and be

    available on-line.

Providing a business card will be available with dates and time of all 2016 MGA events

Creating a communication board outside the Proshop with MGA content.

Issuing monthly communications via The Monthly Foxhill Club Newsletter.

Nothing really new here, just getting back to what we have done in the past.

  • MGA News Handicaps: There was overwhelming feedback that the participation in tournaments is down

because a number of the members feel that the handicap system and its enforcement is not

protecting the field properly and the “same guys win every event.” This has been a major

point of conversation for the board at our last 2 meetings and we have committed to

addressing it this year. We included Steve Rogers, from the handicap committee, in our Janu-

ary meeting to discuss the issue. Ultimately, the propriety of the handicap system is based on

member to member self-policing. It was agreed that over the last few years that practice has

been less prominent than in the past. While the handicap policies and practices are outside of

the MGA’s scope, we do feel we have the responsibility to level the field for all players. In

the 2016 MGA season, all MGA events will be played at the player’s Low Index for the

previous 12 months. We will monitor the 2016 season and review the results with an eye on

moving to a system that uses tournament scores only to develop a member’s Tournament

Handicap to be used for all MGA events. Stay tuned…more to come on what is sure to be a

    hot topic.

Some other less consequential themes also came out of the survey…

More Guest Events. We have added one event this year. (note, these are not MGA

    sponsored events)

Earlier Twilight League Starting Time: We will start at 5:30 this year. And we tweaked

the format just a bit in response to some comments that made sense.

Too Many Draw Events: We eliminated the PGA Open draw and the British Open will not

be a draw event, but rather an event that will include a viewing party before the MGA

tournament. More to come on this one.

The bottom line… Ultimately, MGA events are scheduled for the benefit of the MGA

membership. We felt like we weren’t getting the participation the last few years at levels

that we had enjoyed in the past. So we went out and surveyed the folks that actually make

the weekly decisions to play or not to play. And based on that feedback, we made some

modifications that we believe will enhance your MGA experience. We may not be able to

improve your golf game, but we surely can do our best to improve the MGA event experience

based on your feedback. Thanks for your support. Now go shovel the snow!!

March statement. The increase is due to GHIN annual fee increase. If you are interested in the

Handicap Only charge, the charge will be $55. If you are interested in joining the WGA,

please contact the club and they will add you as a member.

Your WGA dues ($95) include the following events:
