Stage one: Ordinary World• Lilly is an extraordinary student with a deep

passion for nature and its creatures, allowing her to excel in her field of Biology, which she studies at Duke University, in North Carolina. Her dedication to academics is what provided her with the chance to study at such a fine institute because it is what earned her a full ride scholarship. She was raised by a single mother who loved her very much and did that all she could to provide for her, but money was always a struggle. This did not hold back Lily’s aspirations and she was determined to take full advantage of what she was given.

Stage Two: Call to Adventure

• Her junior year of college the opportunity of studying abroad in Asia was presented to her by Professor Smith, her most influential teacher. They would be leaving relatively soon and once they landed in Asia would be staying at host homes in a rural city. This would provide the students with the most efficient and authentic way to learn about the cultural and biological differences.

Stage Three: Refusal of the Call• Her initial response was enthusiasm and an undeniable

interest, but after the excitement wore off the hovering second thoughts begun to sink into Lily’s reality, the major problem being that of the financial demand. This would be especially hard due to the short notice. She kindly declined the Professor Smith’s offer and left the classroom with a heavy heart. Losing something that could be so beneficial to her career was devastating and not knowing how to handle it she confided in her mother who always knew how to help. The news was equally upsetting to Margaret, her mother; they decided on meeting for coffee the next day.

Stage Four: Meeting with

Mentor• Lily was confused when her mother approached her with a wide smile upon her face. The smile quickly spread to her lips once her mother told her that she had enough savings and with assistance of loans could pay for the trip. Lily hugged her mother and quickly returned to her dorm room and began to pack.

Stage Five: Crossing the Threshold

• Lilly arrived at the airport with butterflies in her stomach; she hated flying. She made her way through the gate and onto the airplane to find her seat. Surprisingly, she saw that a unusually handsome man in his twenties was seated next to her. She sat down and said hello. He introduced himself as Eli, and was also going to study abroad in the same program as she was. They got situated and soon the plane ascended into the sky. Thirteen hours later, the captain made an announcement that they were preparing to land. Before getting off the plane, Eli and Lilly agreed to stay together through out the trip.

Stage Six: Tests, Allies, Enemies

• After gathering their luggage, they headed out to the bus designated to take them to a small town outside the city. On the way there, Lilly looked out the window, awestruck at what she saw. Everything was different, from the landscape to the street signs. The farther they went out of the city, the more she realized that she knew little of the world outside of the United States. A while later, the bus arrived at the village which was situated on the outskirts of a forest. Lilly was eager to go explore

Stage Seven: Approach• She unpacked and hurried to meet her host family. After getting acquainted with the mother,

father and daughter, she walked briskly to go meet up with Eli. He stood waiting for her on the edge of the forest. The sun was still high in the sky so they knew that they had several hours to burn before sunset. Wandering around, exploring and enjoying every moment. Soon after, they decided to take a break and rest. They had brought a little sack of food to keep them content until dinner. While they sat quietly and ate, they suddenly heard the crackle of twigs. Eli stood up and looked about him. He didn’t see anything so he sat back down. Then minutes later, they heard the noise again. Except this time, out of nowhere two giant pandas were sitting only a short distance from them, eating bamboo. Lilly was stunned. She had never imagined she would see a real giant panda in its natural habitat! They tried not to disturb the pair, but attempted to get a closer look. After getting a closer look, Lilly and Eli noticed something. They had patches of hair missing and looked a bit rough. She wondered what could have happened to them. But before they knew it, the sun had gone down and they needed to get back to the village. After returning, they asked some locals about the pandas. They told them that many pandas have been taken from this area and that the ones that still remain run into poachers and their fences which result in injuries. After hearing this, Lilly became infuriated. She knew that she would have to do something about this. Over the next few days, she tried to study the pandas and their habits. She talked to locals and tried to gather as much information as possible. Lilly decided that between her and Eli’s efforts, they would start a foundation concerning the mistreatment of pandas and the protection of them in their natural habitat.

Stage Eight: Ordeal• One day, while observing the pandas, Lilly heard a gunshot. She jumped up from the

ground and ran behind a large tree. She peeked around to see what had happened. A man, dressed in dark clothes with a gun appeared in the distance. Thankfully, the pandas had run away just as Lilly had. The poacher was very angry and he stormed off into the distance trying to follow them. After he had left, Lilly ran as fast as she could back into town. She came screaming and ran right into Eli! She told him what had happened and she was very distraught. They decided to tell their supervisor and they were determined to make sure that man would never be able to shoot another panda again. They went to the townspeople and asked for their support against the poachers. Everyone was on board to start up the foundation and set up a watch system of volunteers to keep a lookout for poachers. For the next week there was no commotion and all was well in the forests. Eli and Lily were proud of their efforts thus far. The following day Eli was on watch and while he was looking through binoculars and saw a man creeping through the brush with a gun! He blew a horn and sounded an alarm and at once, more volunteers rushed in to bombard the poacher. After an interrogation of him, they found out he lead a group of poachers and he gave the townspeople their names. Lily was able to contact the local government and obtain their support in bringing the poachers to justice!

Stage Nine: Reward• The town celebrated that night, with music and

dancing in honor of the pandas. Lily, sitting and watching the locals rejoice, found her eyes wander over to Eli dancing, mesmerized by his movements and being enchanted by his natural charm. He sauntered over to her, pulled her out of her chair and began whisking her around the dance floor. Soon they were lost in each others eyes and danced the night away.

Stage Ten: The Road Back• They spent their last week in the village learning

from locals and observing their exotic culture. Making their way back to the airport felt unreal and Lily was sad to leave her host family, but excited to return home to her mother. Her host family said they were proud to have Lily as a temporary daughter and will always keep her in their prayers. Eli and Lily made a promise to keep seeing each other, even after they parted to return to their respective schools.

Stage Eleven: Resurrection• Soon after getting settled back in North Carolina,

she received an email from her host family back in Asia saying that one panda had gotten attacked by a poacher who had escaped! The townspeople there were able to locate the panda in the forest and successfully nurse it back to health, naming her after Lily because of all the work she did to save the pandas. They tracked down the poacher and this time, the state government took over and incarcerated him in a high security prison.

Stage Twelve: Return with Elixir

• The state government also heard about the organization started by the North Carolina students on their journey to Asia and fully supported it with money and man power. They set up watch stations all over the forests that pandas call home. This incredible support from the local people to protect the amazing creatures was overwhelming. Lily received a humanitarian award for her efforts from her school. After she graduated college, Eli and Lily reunited and returned to Asia to start a new life together, and work at their foundation.
