Genealogical Research Society of Eau Claire, Wisconsin An affiliate of the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society www.wsgs.org Notes From the Chair-I hope everyone is having a good summer and working on your gene- alogy. It was so nice to see so many at the picnic. Even though it was hot, there was a cool breeze under the pines and was comfortable. We had a fun game (thank you Anita) with a great prize which Kathy Herfel won. I have been working at the genealogy room at the Rassbach museum in Menomonie. What a treasure! All the newspapers in bound volumes and obits in books by surname. I can’t say enough about their collection. As many of you may remember, I was supposed to go to Elk Horn Iowa to do Danish gene- alogy. en I burned my foot canning peaches (I did can more this summer without mis- hap) so the trip got canceled. I am planning to go in September (I hope). As a final comment, many have asked what I found from the Irish certificate I won at our March meeting. Although I sent them all my information I have not heard from them. Per- haps the group is not as reputable as we thought. Take care and keep hunting those ancestors. Linda Sawdust City Ros Summer Edition July and August 2018 Fabulous Picnic We had a great time at our annual picnic. e food was wonderful. It was great seeing and connecting with good friends. Congratulations to our contest winner, Kathy Herfel. Kathy won a cemetery marker cleaning kit that included the cleaning product that our May speaker discussed. We expect to see pictures of nice clean cemetery markers, Kathy!

bull Take a break from your research such as tidy up your desk or read a bookbull Index a cemetery Karin Pettis has some local ones that need indexing Or choose the ancestor who is buried closest to your geographic location and visit that cemetery bull Join Find A Grave It is free Upload your cemetery photographs and write a short biography about an ancestor This has been my summer break Try linking ancestors with their descendants add-ing maiden names to women etc It has been easy to do and very helpful in focusing on detailsbull Take a virtual genealogy course I attended ldquoResearching German Ancestorsrdquo through AmericanAncestorsorg (the New England Historic Genealogical Society) The course was held on Wednesday evenings for three weeks I chose this course because my brick wall is firmly established in Berlin So choose a subject related to your brick wall ancestor and start chipping away

Boiler Room FindRoger Davis has reported receiving a hidden cache of old GRSEC records Here is an excerpt of his report

The librarian for Chippewa Valley Museum in-formed me that they had found a box of FRSEC stuff in their boiler room Bertrsquos records included board and general meeting reports from the be-ginning of the organization There are also some copies of the by-laws some membership lists a pretty complete list of officers some financial reports and a few other things They were in ran-dom order with multiple copies of many items I have organized them to some degree but they need a lot of organization yet

What wonderful news We will be discussing this at our next board meeting in AugustRoger also noted there were some books that ap-peared to have been from the Zoe Matthewsrsquo estate Thanks Roger for organizing and researching these finds
