Plan Revised August 12, 2019

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT—SRE believes that parent involvement means the participation of

parents in regular two-way and meaningful communication involving student academic learning

and other school activities, including and ensuring that:

Parents play an integral role in assisting their child's learning;

Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child's education at school

Parents are full partners in their child's education and are included, as appropriate, in deci-

sion making, and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.

WHAT IS TITLE 1?

Sawyer Road Elementary is identified as a Title 1 school as part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Title 1 is designed to support State and local school reform efforts tied to the challenging State academic stand-ards to improve teaching and learning for students. Title 1 programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to sup-port family engagement. All Title 1 schools must jointly develop with parents and family members a written parent and family en-gagement policy.

SCHOOL PLAN FOR SHARED STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

What is it? This is a plan that describes how Sawyer Road Elementary will provide opportuni-

ties to improve parent engagement to support student learning. Sawyer Road Elementary values

the contributions and involvement of parents in order to establish an equal partnership for the

common goal of improving student achievement. This plan describes the different ways in which

SRE supports parent engagement and how parents can help plan and participate in activities and

events to promote student learning at school and home.

How is it developed? We developed this Parent Involvement Policy using a variety of feed-

back including annual parent surveys, meetings/event feedback, parent/teacher conferences,

school governance (SGT) and PTA. Additionally, parent input and comments regarding this plan

are welcome during the school year through an online form. Also, data was collected from

different sources and analyzed to identify areas to target and to ensure alignment with our

school improvement plan. By collaborating with all stakeholders, we will support the important

role of parents in the education of their children.

Who is it for? All families at SRE participate in the Title 1, Part A program. They all are encour-

aged and invited to fully participate in the opportunities described in this plan. This includes par-

ents with limited English, parents with disabilities and parents of migratory children.

Where is it available? The plan will be available on the school web site, posted in the Title 1

Parent Involvement Binder (located on the information table). Parents may request a paper

copy in the office.

School-Parent Compact—As part of this plan, SRE and our families will develop a school—

family compact, which is an agreement between parents, teachers, and students to work to-

gether to make sure our students reach grade level standards. The compact is reviewed and

updated annually based on feedback from parents and teachers during parent meetings, par-

ent surveys and SGT review. The School-Parent Compact will be hand delivered during the Fall

Parent Teacher Conference Week (Sept. 17—21) and will be signed by parent, student and

teacher. The compact will also be posted on the school website and placed in the Title I Parent

Involvement Binder located on the Parent Information Table.

Share information through different venues and languages for parents to understand academic

standards and assessments, as well as ways they can monitor their child’s progress.

Provide necessary materials for parents at conferences, meetings, and activities to help par-

ents work with their child to achieve academic excellence.

Foster and maintain ongoing communications with parents/guardians concerning opportuni-

ties for involvement, their child’s eligibility for special programs, educational progress, profes-

sional qualifications of their child’s teachers, and school as it relates to state and federal

growth charts.

Collect feedback from parents and family members and link a suggestion form on the school
