Saxophone is an instrument considered as a member of the woodwind family. Saxophones are usually made of brass, but they are considered members of the woodwind family because they have a single-reed mouth piece made of wood, similar to that of the clarinet.

HistoryHistory

The saxophone was invented by Adolphe Sax, in 1841. Adolphe Sax was an insrument-maker, flautist and clarinetist working in Paris. He was working at his father's instrument shop in Brussels, , Sax began developing an instrument which had the projection of a brass instrument with the agility of a woodwind. Hector Berlioz composed in 1844 the first known work for saxophone: the sextet Sacred Song, released on 3 February the same year in Hertz room, with the direction of Berlioz and Adolf Sax playing the saxophone.
