Natural Diamonds, Lab-Grown Diamonds and Moissanites are among the most popular stones currently used in engagement rings at Diamond Storm Designs. But what is the difference between these stones and how do you choose the right one for you?

Natural DiamondAdmired for their sparkle and fire, diamonds are naturally formed kilometers below the Earth’s crust over millions of years. Natural Diamonds are a 10/10 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness, making them one of the hardest known naturally occurring materials. They are resistant to scratching, unless by another diamond, and are unlikely to break and chip.

Lab-Grown DiamondLab-grown Diamonds are grown in highly controlled laboratories. They are physically, chemically and optically identical to Natural Diamonds with complete certification - and up to 25% cheaper than naturally mined diamonds! The only difference between a Natural Diamond and a Lab-Grown Diamond is their origin, one is naturally made by Earth, the other in a laboratory.

Created MoissaniteMoissanite is an alternative to a diamond. It is made from naturally occurring silicon carbide, discovered by French chemist Henri Moissan. Moissanite looks exactly like a Diamond and it is very difficult for the naked eye to tell the difference. The stone is strong, harder than a Sapphire, Ruby or Emerald. Durable and highly resistant to scratching or breaking, the Moissanite is perfect for everyday wear - and up to 70% cheaper than a Natural Diamond.
