E ducation to be complete, must be hu-

mane. It must bring out inner peace,

drawing from the living fountain of love

and affectionate nurturing which is the need of the hour.

I am delighted to welcome you all to this new academic session.

As we advance in our journey to achieve another milestone, I

would like you to ponder for a while: Is education to earn or to

learn?

The values are changing and we need to bring a paradigm shift in

our attitude, in pursuit of materialistic success, the values have

been lost somewhere. The need of the hour is to inculcate all those

values which make human life worth living i.e. service to others,

compassion for weak and needy, rising above individual interest

and work for greater goodness of mankind.

I exhort all of you to use all your faculty strength, bravery and wit to

achieve real results. Last but not the least, I would like to acknowl-

edge the outstanding work done by our students and staff by orga-

nizing “Physiotherapy Seva Camp” at Gurudwara Govind Ghat.

Lets work together to take full advantage of potential in all of us.

Have a great learning ahead.

Thank You and wishing you a very Happy Independence day.

HELPING HANDS FOR

UTTARAKHAND Disaster

SBSPGI STAFF MEMBERS

DONATED ONE DAY SALARY FOR

RELIEF TO THE UTTARAKHAND

I can't stop my tears, who will take care of them?.....this

was the Facebook update by Dr. Siddhartha Sen, who was

leading the six member team of Sardar Bhagwan Singh P.G.

Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Research that went to

the remote areas of the Kedarnath valley with the relief ma-

terial including food and daily need material . The same

emotions were encountered by the team of physiothera-

pists who became the victims of the natural calamity that

occurred in Uttarakhand on 16th June 2013. The team was

stationed at Govind Ghat to provide free seva to the pil-

grims of Hemkund Saheb and was rescued by the ITBP

Jawans. They witnessed the magnitude of the calamity and

describe the pain and sufferings that were left behind for

the local people, left with no food and no shelter.

Offering a small token of gratitude, the staff members of

SBS family donated one day‟s salary for the victims of

Uttarakhand Calamity. The main purpose was to provide

the relief material including food, clothes etc to the people

residing in the remote areas Kedar valley.

The team was flagged off on 23rd July following the non-

conventional route through Tehri-Ghansali-Mayali-Jakholi

and Guptkashi.

The team with their grit and determination overcame the

hurdles and hardships of the devasted hilly terrain

and finally reached on 26th July 2013 to the base camp at

Narayankoti in Guptkashi Tehsil. The team interacted with

the Gram Pradhans of Jaltalla, Kalimath, Trijuguninarayan,

Jalmalla and other nearby affected villages. The people

of this region were cut off from the mainland and were at

the dearth of starvation because of the shortage of food

and basic necessities. with the continued and commend-

able efforts of the team, the relief material was distrib-

uted on 28th July to the villagers of Jalmalla, Kabilta and

Jaltalla. These selfless efforts for serving the victims are

being continued in the coming months by all the faculty

and students with an aim of connecting emotionally to

the calamity hit masses, for which the contributions are

made in form of various commodities. To serve the man-

kind and responsibility towards the society is an integral

part of the SBS family, continued with the same zeal and

efforts as done earlier and always.

When I joined this institute, 2 years back,

I didn‟t know what this Institute could

give me. But gradually I realized that In-

stitute became Santa Claus for me and

filled my bags with achievements and

happiness. The Institute gave me confi-

dence, knowledge, position, support, affection and most

recently my first Dream Job. Apart from academics, I came

to know about my hidden passion for photography for

which I thank the Photography Club for polishing my hid-

den talent. From the bottom of my heart, I extend my

thanks to the Institute for making me a part of such a

wonderful SBS family.

In the last two years, I have devel-

oped myself not only in academics

but also in extra curricular activities

and in doing that, SBS has played a

pivotal role. Now, when I am finally

leaving the Institute, I „ll miss all those

days and especially SBS UTSAV where

I used to perform in front of such a big crowd. SBS not

only make one‟s career but transform students in a

complete human being.
