For well over half a century Scania has focused
its production on its modular-build system, a
unique and innovative idea which positioned
the company firmly at the leading edge of
automotive design. Now, through Scania Total
Transport Solutions, those same principles are
being extended to embrace every activity
undertaken by Scania in the UK today.
Under the banner of Scania Total Transport
Solutions, everything from complete vehicles to
Driver CPC training can be found – with an
entire spectrum of carefully packaged products
and services in between. The intention is to
provide operators with a single source of supply
for every transport need.
Generating success
In a word, Scania Total Transport Solutions is all
about success. Indeed, Scania's stated aim is to
help its customers succeed by providing the
finest products and services, a philosophy that is
encapsulated within the Scania Total Transport
Solutions concept.
This publication outlines the many separate
Scania Total Transport Solutions
activities currently contained within the Scania
Total Transport Solutions programme. But
that's not the end of the matter, as the
programme will continue to grow. That's
because Scania is committed to continuously
improving and further expanding the range of
products and services it offers transport
operators in the United Kingdom.
Additional information and details can be
obtained from your local Scania dealer –

Distribution
9
With a model type for every application,
Scania's range of distribution vehicles provides
an optimised solution for every application.
High levels of uptime and efficiency
contribute towards exceptional productivity
and low operating costs over the entire life-
cycle of the vehicle.
Particular attention to manouevrability,
driveability and performance means Scania
distribution trucks are equally at home in every
situation, from intensive urban multi-drop
operations to out on the open road.
With a choice of day and sleeper cabs,
drivers are also at home in vehicles that are
comfortable and a pleasure to drive. Access is
exceptional too, with wide inclined steps and
well-placed handrails making Scania distribution
trucks as convenient and safe as possible.

Construction
Strong, sturdy and solid – but retaining the
driver-appeal of our long-haul and distribution
vehicles – Scania construction trucks have a
well-earned reputation as highly productive,
powerful and desirable workhorses.
A recent addition to the Scania constuction
range is a selection of tough off-road P- and G-
series trucks designed for maximum uptime
and mobility.
New frontal styling and a variety of sturdy
components makes these vehicles stand out
from the crowd while equipping them to
withstand intense and unavoidable pounding.
Included as part of the introduction are a
new high performance Scania Retarder and a
new operating mode for Scania's Opticruise
automated gear-selection system, both of which
are ideally matched to on/off road operations.
Scania V8
For more than 40 years Scania's V8 engines have
been setting the standards for high horsepower,
high performance trucks.
Today, featuring the latest Scania XPI fuel
injection system and a choice of power outputs
from 500 hp/2,500 Nm torque up to 730
hp/3,500Nm, the Scania V8 range continues to
raise the bar for heavy truck productivity.
As such, Scania V8s are fuel-efficient when
working hard, while remarkably frugal when
lightly laden.
Outstanding driveability
With power-to-torque ratios between 4.8 and
5.0, all Scania V8 engines are designed to
deliver power smoothly and efficiently.
There is ample torque at idling speeds to
facilitate pulling away and maximum torque is
produced from 1,000 revs/minute. The slope of
the torque curve at higher revs carefully
matches the rise of the power curve to provide
'hanging power' uphill – the engine feels
stronger as the revs drop, resulting in
outstanding driveability

Complete Vehicles
Scania's Complete Vehicles programme is a cost-
effective means of acquiring a fully built-up
vehicle quickly and easily. Today the range
comprises the Scania Complete Box and Scania
Complete Curtainsider, both with bodywork by
The Cartwright Group, a Hookloader and a
Skiploader with equipment by preferred
suppliers Multilift and Hyva respectively, plus
Specialist Tractor Units equipped with Wet Kits
or built for Petroleum Regulations/ADR work.
Created following extensive consultation
with operators, the Scania Complete Vehicles
programme offers a solution for customers
wishing to specify vehicles with Scania as the
single supplier – a concept that is proving
extremely popular as EC whole-vehicle type
approval becomes adopted by all European
member states.
Competitively priced and offered with a
range of options in addition to their standard
bodywork package, every Scania Complete
Vehicle has been designed with convenience
firmly in mind. Shorter lead-times, consistent
build-quality and a full manfacturers' warranty
covering both truck and bodywork are just
three of the benefits awaiting operators
specifying this innovative new vehicle concept.
Delivered fully equipped and ready for
service, every Scania Complete Vehicle comes
with the full backing of the Scania UK dealer

Scania Buses and Coaches

which runs between St Ives and Cambridge
Scania buses and coaches have been a part of
the UK passenger carrying vehicle scene since
the mid-1960s.
The company's current range includes fully-
built-up models and vehicles with coachwork by
our body-building partners. The line-up covers
every application from fare stage operations to
luxury international touring, and is
characterised by outstanding fuel economy,
exceptional driveability and a highly
appreciated standard of passenger comfort.
Driver comfort and safety is also a priority
for Scania with a driver's area ergonomically
designed down to the finest detail to make
driving more relaxed and pleasureable.
Fully supported by the Scania service
network, both throughout the UK and

The sale of used trucks, buses and coaches is a major activity for Scania today. Scania used trucks are frequently ex-contract
vehicles which have been serviced exclusively by Scania's own dealers. Consequently, they command excellent residual values
and are highly sought after in the used vehicle market. An extensive range of quality used trucks is displayed at many of
Scania's UK dealer points as well as at the company's dedicated Export Centre in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. Similarly, a wide
selection of quality used Scania buses and coaches are available nationwide.
Scania's professional used vehicles sales teams are committed to providing the best quality used vehicles on the market. In
support of its used vehicle sales activities, Scania's nationwide web-search facility can locate an operator's desired truck, bus or

Scania and Safety
25
A long-standing commitment
Safety has been a high priority for Scania for much
of the company's long history. As early as the mid-
20th century Scania was conducting its own impact
trials and was instrumental in formulating the
rigorous Swedish cab strength test, still the world's
toughest and most demanding today.
This has led to safety considerations becoming
part of the Scania corporate culture. Every year,
approximately four percent of turnover is reinvested
into research and development, much of which is
directly safety-related.
In addition to the range of safety features which
come as a standard part of every Scania product
today, the company also looks to the future. Here,
ground-breaking projects such as the Scania crash-
zone concept truck are being designed to provide
even higher levels of protection, both for the
occupants of the truck itself and for those in any
opposing vehicle involved in a frontal collision.
With its extensive programme of active and
passive safety measures, Scania is firmly committed
to playing its part in maximising road safety
wherever and whenever possible.

Scania and Sustainable Fuels
Since the earliest days of the automotive
industry, Scania has been at the forefront of
developing alternative methods of fuelling its
vehicles – the company's first experiments
were with compressed natural gas during the
First World War!
Today, in view of conflicting messages and
opinions, operators must be able to feel
confident about the sustainability of the
renewable fuels they consider using.
Scania strongly favours the development of
a uniform system for certifying and labelling
biofuels. To be viable, biofuels must give
substantial net reductions in carbon dioxide
emissions compared to fossil fuels, and without
competing directly with food production or
threatening biodiversity.
For its part, Scania is convinced that biofuels
can fulfil these criteria and contribute to
economic growth and welfare in developing
countries.

Presented as a series of five seven-hour modules and covering all makes of vehicle,
every moment of our Driver CPC training focuses on safety, economy and efficiency in operation.
As well as complying fully with the demands of the EU Driver CPC legislation, each module has been
designed to add value to your business, both in terms of getting the best performance out of your
vehicles and with regard to enhancing your driver's own personal skill set.
An additional benefit is that, if required, each of our modules can be tailored to the needs of
individual operators to provide application-specific and job-related training where required. That
means that far from just 'ticking the box', we can
make your Driver CPC training absolutely relevant
and beneficial to your operation and business.

Scania Assistance is an essential support service that provides operators with a complete back-up
system designed to minimise downtime and keep Scania vehicles out on the road. Most importantly,
the Scania Assistance Call Centre is a Scania-owned and staffed facility which represents a major
investment in customer service. As such, Scania Assistance is a stand-alone operation that does not
rely upon a third-party for the service it delivers.
And that means should the need arise to contact Scania Assistance, your call will be taken by a
Scania-trained member of staff who will have a clear understanding of the nature of the problem –
and an appreciation of your needs. What's more, in the vast majority of instances the Scania technician
attending the call-out will be able to carry out the necessary repairs to the vehicle on the spot.
For those requiring workshop support, Scania service is never far away; the organisation's dealer
network has fully equipped repair and maintenance centres strategically situated throughout the UK.
And for those travelling further afield there are approximately a further 1,000 Scania workshops
