Children's Day...by Koch Tabb, dated 6/30/95

The 16th Annual Children's Day in the CulturalCenter on June 28 was a face painting success at the Club. Thanks to all the help I had making happy faces.. .RosemaryBay, Floyd Binns, Pat Eberline, Pauline Ender, RachaelHarla, Greg Stephens, Steve Veresh....

And a special thanks to Samantha Obeli, the six yearold granddaughter of Pauline. She drew two large pagesof wonderful faces, characters, animals, and symbols. They were passed around the table many times during theday for the crew to get ideas from. Hope to see her nextyear.

LANTERNES AT THE SCARAB CLUB

In the summer of 1994 Louis Cantoni contributed to the ScarabClub thirty copies of his new book of poems, A Festival of LanternesThese copies were sold by the end of April, 1995. All proceedswent to the Scarab Club.

Lou's essay, "Terse Verse," was published in the June, 1995Scarab Buzz. It described how he came to write a bookful of poemsin the lanterne form. Unfortunately, some typos were made in theessay's last paragraph. Following is the correct version of thatparagraph. Several lanternes from Lou's new book are also reprintedbelow:

Poetry may be defined as concise, precise, imaginative use ofwords in rhythmic patterns. Poems may be long or short, but economicuse of words has always been regarded as poetry's central virtue. In truth, thoughtful brevity is appreciated everywhere in day-to-dayconversations, in speeches, and in the writing of prose. For me,sculpting my experiences, ideas, and emotions into lanterne formhas been challenging, enjoyable, therapeutic. These cameos reflectmy work, my life, my love.
