COLLEGE PLANNING AND PREPARATIONNot sure how to plan for college? Talk to counselors, teachers, family friends, siblings and your

parents for recommendations of colleges and universities to research. As you look into each school,

you will discover what is important to you. Visit with an SCC outreach coordinator to discuss degree

options and how to navigate the college process. stchas.edu/academics

PAYING FOR COLLEGECollege is so expensive; how can I afford to go? For many students, the greatest concern about

college is not what their major should be, it is how they are going to be able to afford to go. Your

education is worth the investment, and there are several options to keep college affordable. Funding

for your education can come from a variety of resources including grants, loans and scholarships.

Every student seeking financial assistance should begin by filling out the Free Application for Federal

Student Aid (FAFSA), which is a simple application used to determine eligibility for federal and many

state aid programs. stchas.edu/finaid

CAREER EXPLORATIONWhat am I going to do when I grow up? Explore what you might like to study or major in at college.

Undecided? No problem. Most colleges have resources to help you with career planning. SCC Career

Services counselors assist students in developing greater self-awareness through assessment, iden-

tifying and evaluating opportunities and in exploring career styles and trends. stchas.edu/careers

ACADEMIC COUNSELINGDo I need to take certain college classes? Academic counseling is a joint responsibility of you

and your college counselor. Setting goals, choosing courses and making decisions regarding your

education can be tough, but with assistance from SCC’s dedicated, experienced and knowledgeable

academic counselors, the transition can begin early in your college career. Their focus is on assist-

ing students in understanding the variety of options one can make during the college experience.
