What do you want the students to know?College is not just about lifelong friends, pulling all-nighters before exams, or partying on State Street. College is about discovering your true passions, stepping outside of your comfort zone, paying it forward through service, and ultimately making the best of this once in a lifetime experience.

Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) is one of the main introductions for incoming students on campus. Although SCE students have already been introduced as college students already, SOAR is a must-attend event. So that means that each and every individual student must attend it otherwise you will miss out on a lot of important details. The event is a two day event starting on July 17th at 11AM-730PM. What do you want the students to know? This is your time (college) to really do and learn about something you enjoy/explore new things and step outside your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to take risks, ask for help, or change your mind. It’s all part of your own process towards a degree here at the UW.

Places to go/do in MadisonWondering what to do in Madison? Bored of just going to State Street or the mall? Well, we got a bunch of things you all can do while on your down time. Madison isn’t as big as Chicago or any other city, but below we got a list of activities you students should/can attend to have FUN! Much love to your Undergraduate Academic Fellow Perla Lozoya and Christina Duarte for the tips.

Bowling/Rock climbing at the Union

Broadway Shows at the Overture

Laser Tag

Comedy Club on State Street

In the basement of Union South, there is a climbing arena and a bowling alley. To climb the wall, it will cost you $4.55 and $3.11 for shoes. Yeah, the prices are weird. For bowling, it is $3.89 a game (per person) and $2.50 for shoes. There is more offered at Union South such as billiards, but if you want to kill time, come here.

Like Broadway shows such as Wicked? The Overture Center located on State Street has many Broadway Shows from week to week. Although there is a lot of information, we suggest that you look into it daily to see what plays are coming into town. There might be one that you

might be interested in or if you’re taking the class Theatre 120, you might have to go watch a show there.

Have you ever played laser tag before? Well if you want to play laser tag, the closest and probably only one in Madison is on the West Side of Madison call Ultrazone. Ultrazone has been one of Madison’s laser tag facility for decades and if you’re planning a birthday party or

simply want to go there to hang out with some friends, head on over there via bus or car. On the weekends, Ultrazone has its special hours

where you pay an X amount to play until your hearts desire.

Need a place to laugh or take your date? The Comedy Club on State Street is the place to go. If you’re on a budget, from 8:30 PM - 10:00 PM, it will only cost you $5 with a student ID. Fridays and Saturdays will cost you about $10-12.

Also, you have to be over 18.

This Week In Cohort Convo• Pre-Professional will be

having a Student Panel.• Social Science/Humanities

will be holding a Class and Major Workshop.

• STEM will be having a Eric Wilcox speak.

• Pre-Business will be having Jeff Sawyer (Business Administrator speak.

• Undecided will have Cross College Advising speak.

Hey everyone! I am from Andover, Minnesota which is half an hour outside the Twin Cities. I’m the oldest of 5 and I’d consider my siblings my best friends. I’ve always had a crazy imagination and an addiction for adventure. I won a scholarship junior year to study abroad in Japan for a summer and had the time of my life. In the future, I’ll double major in International Business and East Asian Studies. I love anything artsy – scrapbooking, drawing, writing, playing guitar, acting, singing – heck, I told my third grade teacher I wanted to be Beyoncé. I was captain of my Speech Team and sprinter for my school’s swim team. I’ve held offices in Young Republicans and Alpha Omega Alpha Sorority. I’m an ambassador girl scout, worked part-time teaching at an elementary school, and I’ve won numerous awards and scholarships over the years. One day I hope to become a CEO of an international music production company and also own my own non-profit. Come say “Hi!” to me if you haven’t already! :)

I am from Madison, Wisconsin and I am a Madison East High School graduate. In high school, I was involved in the AVID program and Hmong dancing. In AVID, I learned and practiced many skills to succeed in college and I’m happy to be an AVID graduate. I started Hmong dancing my sophomore year of high school and since then my group has danced for multiple events such as the Madison Hmong New Year and multicultural school events. From Hmong dancing, I’ve learned so many things about my friends who dance with me and about my culture. Other things I enjoy doing are reading manga, playing volleyball, watching TV shows like Deadly Women and Criminal Minds, and writing short stories. I’m also a HUGE fan of Disney and PBS Kids! Next year, I hope to study Japanese, Linguistics, and Math (potentially engineering). It’s kind of different for someone to study these subjects together, but I love math because sometimes numbers are easier to deal with than people and I love languages and cultures because some of the most beautiful things are created by people.

I’m from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am a recent graduate of Menomonee Falls High School in Waukesha, Wisconsin. While attending Menomonee Falls High School, I was a Varsity Wrestler, Track & Field participant (Thrower), and a member of the football team. Along with sports, I volunteered all of my weekends cooking meals for the homeless at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. If I had to pick the most exciting part of my high school experience, it would be volunteering. The feeling of knowing that I’m helping to make a difference is wonderful! Here at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (GO BADGERS!), I hope to receive a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology with a certification in Spanish. I plan to take the Pre-Med track in order to pursue my dreams of becoming a medical physician with a dual emphasis in adult and pediatric healthcare.
