A really big thank you to all at Perfect Smile Spa that helped me to overcome my fear for the dentist!

When I made the call to Perfect Smile Spa I was told to come and experience a“pain free” dentist.

On my first visit, I was shaking with fear and was a very nervous patient. As I entered the reception I was made to feel so relaxed and comfortable.

After the initial consultation with Jas I felt more reassured of the methods used to help nervous patients like myself. Thanks to Jas for all the care and attention to detail he has put into my smile, and giving me the confidence to smile knowingly that my smile is great.

I would definitely recommend anyone, especially someone whom is nervous; to visit Perfect Smile Spa as the attention and care I received was second to none.

Again a big thank you to everyone for giving me a smile and confidence back.

Looking forward to my next visit.

Best regards

Portraits of the iconic and glamorous movie star by British photographers, including Cecil Beaton, Baron and many others will be appearing in the London national portrait gallery. This tiny, exhibition in an NPG doesn’t bother with the question of whether the world needs to see more pictures of Norma Jeane Mortenson, or any of the same ones over again. But you might as well ask why we look at any photos, or hire good-looking actors to star in films, or concern ourselves with beauty at all. We love her, perhaps, because of her combination of innocence and knowingness. The smile is Judy Garland, the eyes Ava Gardner: she’s permanently, sweetly unsatisfying, the visual equivalent of the siren’s song and possibly just as dangerous.Open until Mar 24 2013 national Portrait gallery, st Martin’s Place, london, Wc2H 0HETel: 020 7306 0055 Web: www.npg.org.uk

Billy Taggart (Mark Wahlberg) has a promising career as a New York City cop until the night he is involved in a controversial shooting. Stripped of his badge, but kept out of jail by New York’s popular Mayor (Russell Crowe), he re-makes himself as a private investigator. Times are tough, and when the mayor offers Billy $50,000 to investigate the First Lady’s (Catherine Zeta Jones) extra-marital activities, it seems like a straight forward payday. Unfortunately, it quickly becomes apparent that the Mayor is not at all what he seems, and for Billy to achieve redemption he will have to risk everything -- possibly even his freedom.in cinema’s 18th January 2013

Atul Kochhar’s newest venture, Indian Essence, opened to great success at the end of November. When restaurateur, Jitindra Singh and Michelin starred Chef, Atul, brainstormed how to celebrate the arrival of Indian Essence on Petts Wood Road, the answer was obvious – a party at the beautiful restaurant with plenty of fizz and delicious canapés. Our Mayor breezed in, as did MasterChef winner Dhruv Baker and then Gary Rhodes was there to say Hi to Atul and Mr Singh. After sampling the scrumptious canapés, everyone settled down to chat about holiday plans. It was an evening not to be missed.

bang & Olufsen of Bexleyheath, Bromley & Tunbridge Wells has successfully completed its mission to raise funds for Kent’s CHYPS children’s charity after hosting a James Bond-

themed customer casino night.

Celebrating all things to do with the legendary secret agent, the event took place on the evening of Thursday 29th November at Brands Hatch’s Thistle Hotel and raised £1,000 for the children’s charity. It is the second casino night that the audio-visual specialists have organised in aid of CHYPS.

Thanks to ‘play’ money being used on the casino tables, nearly 100 customers were able to make sizeable bets that would call the bluff off any James Bond villain, while they could also check out the latest gadgets from Bang & Olufsen and try James Bond’s favourite Aston Martin Vanquish for size thanks to the support of Sevenoaks Aston Martin.

In addition to providing a 50 years of James Bond Blu-ray boxset to the customer who was the most successful on the casino tables, Bang & Olufsen of Bexleyheath, Bromley & Tunbridge Wells also awarded bottles of champagne to the best dressed ‘Bond’ girls and guys – two glamorous ladies and one gentleman dressed as ‘Q’ being declared the winners.

The majority of the £1,000 donation to CHYPS was generated through a customer raffle where visitors

had the chance to win a number of cool gadgets, which included the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 8 speaker dock, an iPad and the innovative Bang & Olufsen BeoTime alarm clock that actually looks like a flute! The total was also bolstered by customers who once they had used all their allocated 30 chips were able to buy another for a £5 donation to the charity, which enables children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions to receive full hospice care in their own homes.

“The night was very successful and the roulette tables were immensely popular, especially as visitors were gambling with play money and could make some very big bets,” explained Paul Blake, Dealer Principal of Bang & Olufsen of Bexleyheath, Bromley & Tunbridge Wells.

“Feedback to the event has been excellent and one customer enjoyed themselves so much that they are actually looking to add £500 to our donation to CHYPS through their employer’s charity support scheme.”

Paul continued: “CHYPS was very pleased with the result as the donation is much greater than they have received through higher profile campaigns and I’d like to thank our customers for entering into the spirit of the night and their generosity in helping us to once again support such a worthwhile local cause.”

awarded an O.B.E in the 200’s for his services to entrepreneurship; Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson, Owner of The Virgin Group has more than 2000 entertainment, media and

travel companies around the world. Born and raised in Blackheath, London this successful businessman has recently celebrated his 62nd birthday in style.

Sir Richard Branson has worked hard to become the successful man he is today, with Dyslexia and a poor academic performance in school, Mr Branson was not always destined for greatness. However, discovering his impressive ability to connect with others soon enabled his endeavour into the business world.

His entrepreneurial projects started in the music industry from selling records from phone booths to creating singles with his first artist in 1973 on the Virgin Records label. Mike Oldfield recorded a single “Tubular Bells”; the song was an instant hit, smashing and sticking to the UK charts for 247 weeks.

The dreamer that he is Branson continued to expand his business into other major sectors, Branson started Virgin Atlantic airways after a flight he was scheduled for was cancelled. He had a jet already secured, and invited the passengers of the cancelled flight to fly for free with him. Jokingly posting a Hand- written sign above the plane entrance, reading “Virgin Atlantic

“a generation ago, the image was that you had to trample everyone else down to succeed - but

i don’t believe that makes good business sense. if you’re the kind of person that jumps down the

throat of people, you’re not going to be successful.”- richard Branson

Airways - Flight 1.” with that his airline business was born. Ironically several of the passengers of that flight soon became investors of Branson’s airline, making him the billionaire he is today. In 1992, Virgin records was struggling to financially support itself and the company was sold that year to THORN EMI for $1 billion, Branson declared the record business to have been ‘the genesis of his Virgin Empire’ and was heartbroken to go his separate ways.

Soon after, Branson expanded his businesses to include a train company, a luxury game preserve, a mobile phone company, and a space tourism company; Virgin Galactic, with which he declared on his recent birthday he and his daughters would be the amongst the first to vencher into space.

In 2007, Branson announced the Virgin Earth Challenge, a competition awarding $25 million to anyone that designed a product to reduce greenhouse gases for a minimum of ten years without any harmful effects. With over 2,600 applications, 11 finalists were revealed on 2 November 2011.Along with his efforts to “go green” Mr. Branson announced the creation of Virgin Fuels, which invested $400 million in order to develop nonpetroleum fuels.

Declaring with excellent promotional flair, Branson recently proposed his plan to invest $3 billion to develop energy sources, over the next decade. With this investment Branson is in fact looking for a return on his money and states that “Some will be profitable, some will not be profitable,” acknowledging previous failures in these investments.

Page 18: SCENE (Kent) January 13

As well as being a world renowned entrepreneur, Branson is also known for his eccentric sporting achievements, the most notable is the record-breaking Atlantic crossing, in the Virgin Atlantic Challenger, he holds the record as ‘the fastest to cross the Atlantic Ocean via boat’, he also was the first to cross the Atlantic and Pacific oceans by hot-air balloon in the “Virgin Atlantic Flyer”, which was the first and largest hot air balloon to cross the ocean.

Sir Richard Branson already conquering these great achievements aspires to be the first to circle the globe in a balloon, although having already made several unsuccessful attempts, his motivation to succeed has never deceased.

With every success under his belt possibly imaginable, Sir Richard Branson and other entrepreneurs continue to help create opportunities to School leavers who have chosen not to go to university.

They hope to make them eligible for a student loan to start a business, Sir Richard states it is “a great way of kick-starting thousands of new businesses.

Businesses don’t need much money to get going and a student loan is enough money to get those that can grow into multinational businesses to get going.”

Several school-leavers have already utilized their student loans to create what have gone on to become, ‘large and successful businesses’. “This money isn’t going to enable them to build a factory.

What it does is allow them to market their business properly.” Helping to mould and guide the next generation, we wish many more years of success to the inspirational, Sir Richard Branson.

you know you’ve arrived at the Bloomsbury Ballroom by the impressive and iconic neo-classical facade of Victoria House.

Victoria House was constructed in 1920 following the purchase of the land at Bloomsbury Square by the Liverpool Victoria Friendly Society from the Duke of Bedford, and on completion, became the second largest office block in the country after Whitehall. One of the features of the building was its three halls: the South Hall, the North Hall and the Minor Hall. Of these the South Hall, today called the Ballroom, was the only one to survive the blitz during the Second World War. In 2003 the Bloomsbury Ballroom underwent extensive remodelling to restore it to its former Art Deco grandeur.

Terry Pullen, a businessman and entrepreneur with over 20 years experience in the hospitality industry, took

over at the helm late last year. Formerly owner of 10 Rooms, 10 Tokyo Joes and New Connaught Rooms, Pullen now owns and runs the Kent based Bickley Restaurant and Bar, 7 Hotel and Diner as well as Little Dudley House in leafy Surrey.

He says of his recent purchase of The Bloomsbury Ballroom “As soon as I saw the venue I knew it was the perfect space to host any number of events whether a wedding, birthday celebration, intimate cocktail party or corporate entertaining. Central London has lost its appeal somewhat with a lack of exciting and unique venues. The Bloomsbury Ballroom provides the ideal setting to showcase any occasion in stunning surroundings.”

Entered through grand revolving doors and descending to the floor below, guests are transported to the glitz

and glamour of the 1920s. The art deco inspired interior oozes taste and sophistication. The booth-style seats in the Long Bar pair deep blue leather with dark wood, striking against the white butcher’s tiles; The Crush Bar offers up swirling patterns on the thick carpet underfoot and modernist tables and chairs. The ballroom itself is an imposing space, visually spectacular with original features, high-ceilings, huge windows, sprung wooden flooring and opulent stage area.

The venue is a versatile and flexible space and has a capacity of up to 880 standing and 330 seated and parking space beneath for 450 vehicles. It can be exclusively hired in its entirety or for an array of events from smaller parties to large gala dinners and conferences and comes fully equipped with state of the art lighting and sound system designed to be in keeping with its impressive surroundings. There is also the added opportunity to use the Square and exterior for photo opportunities, offering a backdrop with the wow factor.

Terry Pullen and his team offer a bespoke event management service, providing the ultimate in tailor-made packages for an unforgettable experience. Pullen says of the offering “The choice really is yours. You can effectively acquire and stage your own production using our space, or we can plan, organise and manage a truly custom-made event for you. This is the beauty of our independent venue – we can create and showcase pretty much whatever our guests desire”.

As well as private functions, The Bloomsbury Ballroom will play host to regular “nights”. From February, a monthly themed ball will be held at the venue and there will be a weekly show-driven offer featuring dinner, dance and credible, upmarket entertainment providing a night of style, sophistication and fun in the heart of Central London.

Since Terry Pullen’s takeover of the venue in September, the venue has already put on a number of high-profile events including the launch party of the much-anticipated Call of Duty Ops 2 computer game, The National Wedding Awards and Christmas parties for the likes of Topshop and Hermès. 2013 and beyond looks to be even busier with a number of events already planned. It’s easy to see why this is such a desirable location. “The Bloomsbury Ballroom is a one-stop night out for the finest quality food, drink and entertainment in exquisite surroundings. With a nod to a bygone era and brimming with all manner of event opportunities, guests can revel in our luxurious historical venue for a truly memorable experience.”

The First step - A Year in review

The first step is to take a look at what your diet and health have been like for the last 12 months. Think about questions like these and write down your answers in a notebook so that you can look back them again a year from now:

• How does your weight compare with a year ago? There are a few common times when people gain weight.• Do you feel healthy and have a lot of energy or are you tired all the time?• Do you take vitamins or other nutritional supplements?• Do you eat at home most of the time? If so, what types of foods? Whole fresh foods, boxed foods or TV dinners?• If you eat in a restaurant, what types of restaurants do you go to and what types of foods do you choose?• How physically active are you? Do you exercise regularly?• Do you eat healthy size portions, or do you stuff yourself with every meal?• Do you smoke?• How much alcohol do you drink each week?

It is important to take an honest look at your health and dietary habits in order to set goals for your health and diet.

The second step - setting goals

The second step is to set goals. Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to be able to run up and down your stairway without becoming winded? Do you want to reduce cholesterol or lower your blood pressure? Decide what you really want to achieve for your health and diet over the next month and over the next year.

One good goal for your first month could be to resolve to take your lunch to work four days per week for each week this month instead of eating lunch in restaurants every day. Another example of a monthly goal would be to resolve to walk for 30 minutes four days per week each week this month.

Write down your goals in a notebook or in the food diary you are going to create in step seven.

The Third step - Determining Your Dietary needs

There are so many diets ranging from low-carb to low-fat to low-calorie (check out these diet books). Here just some ideas you might want to consider for your dietary needs:

• Do you have high blood pressure? If so you may wish to reduce sodium in your diet by avoiding canned and

New Year New YouteN steps tO a HeaLtHy New year

Page 23: SCENE (Kent) January 13

SCENE 23

packaged foods.• Are you overweight? You need to decrease your calorie intake or increase your amount of physical exercise. You can choose low carb diets or low fat diets, just be sure to watch your calories and portion sizes.• Do you have diabetes? If so, then you need to reduce your sugar intake.• Do you have high cholesterol? Increase your intake of soluble fiber like the fiber found in oatmeal. Fiber will lower your cholesterol levels. You should reduce your intake of saturated fats and increase your intake of omega-3 fatty acids from fish, flax, walnuts and canola oil.

If you have specific health concerns, you should make an appointment to see your doctor, dietitian, or a nutritionist to help you know how different foods can affect how you feel.

The Fourth step - Dietary supplements

A healthy diet should give you all of the vitamins and minerals you need, but many people take vitamins just to make sure. There are several formulations available, but all you need is a simple multivitamin and multimineral supplement.

The Fifth step - Design Your Healthy new Diet

To design your new diet, here is what you need to know:

• How many calories do you need to eat each day to reach your weight gain or weight loss goal?• How do your eating patterns fit your lifestyle?• Do you feel better with three large meals per day or five smaller meals per day?• Will you continue to eat in restaurants often?• What types of fruits and vegetables do you like?

A healthy diet should give you five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables per day, 25 grams of fiber per day, five or six ounces of protein per day and a small amount of omega-3 essential fatty acids each day. To stick with your new diet, you will want to include foods you enjoy. If you love hamburgers, that’s OK. Make them at home with whole grain rolls and cut down the size of the hamburger patty, or use ground turkey. Add lots of lettuce, onion, and tomato. Add a salad instead of fries.

Here are more tips and ideas:

• Choose crunchy raw green beans instead of chips and serve them with a little of your favorite dip.• Replace high fat hot dog franks with soy dogs.• Choose whole grain breads and pasta instead of white bread and white pasta.• Skip the sugary desserts and have a small dish of fresh berries with a dab of whipped cream or non-fat whipped topping...add a sprinkling of walnuts on top.• Use lemon juice instead of salad dressing.• Choose low fat ground turkey instead of high fat ground beef.

Page 24: SCENE (Kent) January 13

24 SCENE

The sixth step - shopping and cooking

When you shop, make a list and stay away from the snack food aisles and the prepackaged foods aisles as much as possible. Choose fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads, lean meats, fish and legumes. Avoid foods high in saturated fats, sodium, trans-fats and sugar.

Cooking methods are important for healthy nutrition. Sautéing is better than deep-frying your foods. Frying foods adds fats and calories and doesn’t add any nutrition. Steam your vegetables instead of boiling them to mush. Steaming will preserve more of the vitamins found in the vegetables. When you cook your healthy meals at home, be sure to make a little bit extra to save as leftovers to take to work or school as a healthy lunch the next day.

The seventh step - getting started with a Food Diary

If you are really serious about changing your diet, losing (or gaining) weight and improving your health, you will find that keeping a food diary is key to your success. You can keep track of the foods you eat every day in a food diary. Keeping a food diary can help you getting back on your diet if necessary. Be sure to note the portion sizes and write down the calories you eat every day. Add up the number of calories you eat each day and your total for the week. If you need to lose weight, decrease the number of calories you need to eat each week by 500. By eating 500 fewer calories each day, most people will lose about one pound per week.

You can make your own food diary or join Calorie Count to keep track of your healthy new diet online.

The Eighth step - Exercise, Fitness and general Health goals

Good nutrition is just one part of a healthy lifestyle. Another component of health and fitness is exercise. If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, you need to get out and get moving. Walking, running, aerobic exercise and weight lifting are all great exercises. If you want to lose weight, it is important to increase aerobic activity like walking or running. If you need to increase your strength, then you need to start resistance training such as lifting weights. There are health clubs, gyms, personal trainers as well as at-home equipment to get you fit and healthy. You also need to know how much food you should eat before you exercise.

Do you smoke? If so, you will really do yourself a favor by quitting. Smoking has been connected to so many chronic diseases...plus you will save a lot of money over the next year if you quit smoking.

How much alcohol do you drink? One drink per day has been shown to be beneficial and there are antioxidantsin red wine. More than one drink per day can be detrimental to your health, however. If you find yourself drinking more than four ounces of wine or twelve ounces of beer each day, then you may need to decrease your consumption of alcohol.

The ninth step - reduce stress

Stress is detrimental to your health. Stress includes daily events like constant deadlines at work, long drive-times with excess traffic, more activities than time to do them, as well as emotional trauma like death or divorce.

The Tenth step - Motivation and Maintenance

Sometimes getting started with a new healthy diet and fitness plan is the easy part. Many of us hit occasional road-blocks due to busy schedules, loss of motivation and sometimes we hit weight loss plateaus. Those weight loss plateaus are the times when we feel like we do everything right, but the scale doesn’t seem to budge. When this happens, don’t give up.

i had my teeth done abroad recently and i am not happy with how they look. The teeth are all wonky and disappear to my left when i smile so i don’t smile. i need something quick done as it really affects my confidence. can you correct my wonky smile? In this case the patient had upper implants placed around existing teeth and then had crowns and bridges placed on top. The smile line was completely wrong and uneven. The centre line was to the left and much canted. No wonder the patient hated their teeth.

This particular case was treated with a combination of Porcelain veneers, crowns and bridges.I am sure you will agree the original smile is unrecognisable!

i have discoloured, chipped uneven teeth and my gums bleed a lot! i am worried about losing my teeth. can you help me Dr Jas?As the before and after pictures show we transformed this young man’s smile to something he thought would NEVER be possible. With Dr Jas’ years of experience in Cosmetic dentistry there is no smile we cannot transform!! Indeed many dentists refer to Dr Jas for complex dental treatments.

After checking the health Dr Jas corrected the teeth and smile very quickly with new Porcelain Veneers. They have transformed the smile in as little as a few weeks with no discomfort. They look very natural and people that have them done say their friends say that they look amazing!! Indeed we get so many recommendations from people that are so happy with their treatments!!This is a simple and effective way to give you a fantastic smile, worthy of any celebrity. Indeed they will change your life. Dr Jas has carried out thousands of cosmetic procedures. Come and visit Perfect Smile Spa for a free consultation. Dr Jas is referred complicated procedures many dentists don’t carry out. Dr Jas has seen many cases of dental problems carried out abroad that he has successfully corrected and recommends having dentistry done in UK in case of any problems.

i have large gaps between my teeth and i have never liked their shape and colour. i do not smile and i am very self conscious! There are two ways to get your teeth into better shape and so give you more confidence in your day to day life. One way is to have porcelain veneers or cosmetic bonding or you could have braces. With porcelain veneers or cosmetic bonding we can close gaps and reshape teeth and gums to give a perfect smile! This could be done in just one to three visits. If you are

happy with your teeth shape you could opt for an invisible brace to close the gaps. You will feel so much more confident after the treatment; nearly everyone we treat at Perfect Smile Spa wish they had come to us years ago!!

If left untreated there is a high chance you could get loose teeth and possibly lose your teeth. It is very easily treated with our gum specific treatment. We have over 95% success record at Perfect Smile Spa for treating such problems. building an extension is one step that you should take with great caution. However, if done properly, an extension can not only add some extra living space for you and your

family, it can also add a lot of value to your home for when the time does come to move on. The important thing to remember when building an extension is to think about the desired purpose of the room, where the new space would best sit, your budget, and any potential added value an extension could create. If you are thinking of building an extension, but you are worried about applying for planning permission (which can cost around £300) and not getting approval, then just do some research. All you have to do is take a look at other properties in your area and especially on your street. This will give you a perfect idea of what sorts of building projects actually do get approval and then you can have a decent idea of whether or not you will be granted planning permission. It will also help you avoid choosing an extension that may in fact detract from the value of your home. If building an extension is out of your price range, then you can improve your home with some interior decorating. Start with the rooms you spend the most time in – the living room and bedrooms perhaps – and create spaces that you enjoy spending time in. This could mean creating a feature wall with some cool wallpaper, investing in some new (or vintage) furniture, or even something simpler like buying a new bedspread or curtains. It’s amazing what a few small touches here and there can do to the overall feel of your home.

Curb appeal is something mostly associated with people who are trying to sell their home. To put it simply, curb appeal is the first impression your home gives to people driving past or turn up for a viewing. Having said that, you walk or drive up to your home almost every day. Why should the curb appeal only be considered in terms of those you are trying to sell your home to? Give the outside of your home a lick of paint, tackle the weeds, tidy the driveway or add some nice outside lighting. You’ll be proud to walk up to your front door in no time!

If you’re thinking your kitchen needs a bit of a revamp, then that’s great. Installing a new kitchen is a great way to improve your home but they don’t come cheap. Thinking about the enduring appeal of a new kitchen is of vital performance. Bright cupboards and a giant breakfast bar might seem attractive now, but will you still feel the same in 5 years time? Will potential buyers feel the same? Neutrality is key for the items that aren’t easily and cheaply replaced. If you’re really feeling the need to add a bit of colour to your culinary life, go for bright appliances, pictures and soft furnishings. Beautiful.

So we’ve covered the inside and outside of your home, but what about the garden? What you need to do to improve your garden will depend on the shape, size and landscape of your garden, as well as what you want to get from your garden. If your space is limited, you could consider paving with a few flower beds around the edge to add colour without adding too much maintenance. If you have a large open green space, you could consider planting some trees (although this needs careful planning in terms of location and type of suitable tree) or adding a water feature.

So there you have it, our top five tips for improving your home. Obviously what’s best for you will depend completely on the property you are starting with, what you’re hoping to achieve and how big a budget you have to work with. But hopefully our ideas will give you something to start thinking about anyway.

Here for your needs

if you are thinking of helping your children to buy their first home, this article may provide some useful guidance on financial issues and the benefits of a local solicitor.

Many young people are struggling to find the necessary capital for a deposit to get their foot on the property ladder. There is pressure from some in government to make it easier for parents and/or grandparents to release money from pensions so that the “bank of Mum and Dad” is more readily available. If you are thinking of providing financial support to your children, we have given some guidance below to some of the questions that we are regularly asked.

i want to pay part of my child’s deposit. Do i make a gift or a loan? Firstly you need to decide whether you will need the money back at any time. If the answer to this question is “yes” then the money must be loaned. If you decide to make a gift of the deposit you need to be aware that, once paid, you have no right to reclaim the money whatever yours or your child’s financial circumstances.

My child is buying the property with another person – how do i protect the investment? If you are making a loan to your child this can be protected by a charge being registered at the Land Registry. If your child is raising a mortgage to finance the purchase they will need to obtain consent for you to have a second charge. Whilst some lenders may object initially it is worth persevering as a charge is the best way to secure your money. If you are making a gift you need to decide and document whether the

Are there any taxation issues i should consider? If you gift money to your child, provided you survive for seven years, the gift will be a potentially exempt transfer (PET) for Inheritance Tax purposes. If your child lives in the property as their principal/main residence, any gain will be exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT). Gifting money to your child to invest in a property can therefore be a very efficient method of tax planning. If you make a loan to your child any interest payable will be part of your income for tax purposes. In addition, if the loan is for a percentage share of the property, any increase in value over your annual exemption (currently £10,600) will be chargeable to CGT.

Will i need to see my own solicitor? The answer to this question is almost certainly yes – particularly if the money advanced is a loan. Whilst this will increase costs, if you wish to protect yours and your child’s investment, it is important to ensure the nature of the transaction and the intentions of all parties are properly considered and protected.

buying the actual home - why chose a local solicitor?

Apart from choosing the right estate agent, choosing the right solicitor is equally important in ensuring everything goes as smoothly as possible. A lawyer advertising on television or in the national press won’t know the area and will rarely be able to provide the added benefits and personal service of a local, independent and experienced Solicitor.

We will guide youWe are readily available at the end of the phone, e-mail or fax and, of course, in person if you want to pop in and see us – whether you need a general chat or the re-assurance as to how the conveyancing process works with all the estate agents, mortgage advisors, other solicitors and surveyors that could be involved.

local knowledgeWe enjoy good relationships with all the local estate agents and others with whom we have to deal and this can certainly help in keeping things on track. We can introduce you to a reputable surveyor and help obtain the necessary Energy Performance Certificate. We will also point out any potential problems, for example a major infrastructure project that could have a long term impact on your future property and advise you on other issues, such as with rights of access or a restrictive covenant, which you would like removed.

Protecting your investmentDon’t forget that buying a property it is one of the biggest investments you will make in your life. It is important to make sure you have the right legal team working for you to protect your investment and make sure that it is saleable in the future.

built c1870, Granite Lodge is an impressive detached Victorian villa that acquires its name from the unique circular granite and flint medallion detailing to the external walls.

A striking house that is approached via a sweeping carriage driveway that provides generous parking and access to the double detached garage.

The living accommodation is very well proportioned and adaptable, comprising a spacious entrance hall with storage. The four principle reception rooms offer much natural light. Most have views of the gardens and all enjoy high ceilings. The kitchen is comprehensively fitted and benefits from high quality built-in appliances, granite work surfaces and a large adjoining dining room. Also on the ground floor are a utility room, cloakroom and access to a spacious and dry cellar. The first floor features four double bedrooms that mirror in size the reception rooms below, with the master benefitting from an ensuite bath & shower room. The family bathroom and separate WC, serves the remaining rooms. The second floor offers two further bedrooms that are served by a large bathroom.

The property has been sympathetically restored by the present owners and is offered in excellent order throughout.

The gardens are a particularly lovely feature of Granite Lodge, with a plot measuring just under an acre and being well screened from the road with mature trees and shrubs. The rear garden has been imaginatively landscaped to blend in with the wooded surroundings

and features three distinct sections. A substantial flat lawned area that was once a tennis court, an elevated wooded area with an attractive pathway and a paved patio area to the side of the house with an ornamental pond and a number of fruit trees.

Chislehurst village with its variety of shops, bars and restaurants is within 1 mile. The Glades shopping centre in Bromley is just over 2 miles away and several excellent schools are close by. Chislehurst station is ½ mile from the property and offers regular services into London Bridge, Charing Cross and Cannon Street. Bickley station is 1 ½ miles away with services into Victoria and Blackfriars.

Shampan at the Spinning Wheel has won Newcomer of the Year in the South East Region at the British Curry Awards 2012.

After being open for just under eighteen months, the Indian restaurant in Westerham carried home the prize from the event on Monday 26th November 2012 which was held at the Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park.

Sufian Miah, Director of Shampan Group, is delighted to have picked up the accolade for Shampan at the Spinning Wheel.

“Shampan Group thrives on the challenge to be different, to be vibrant, to be elegant and to deliver a Fine Indian Dining Experience. These accolades inspire us every day to go to another level.”

Deemed the ‘Oscars’ of the Asian hospitality and catering industry, this year’s British Curry Awards were hosted by BBC’s Royal Correspondent, Jenny Bond and celebrity impersonator, Rory Bremner. Prime Minister, David Cameron, also made an appearance over video, proclaiming that curry is Britain’s national dish and it’s easy to see why. “It’s not just the flavour served up in the thousands

of curry restaurants across the country, it is the welcome too. Those who work in the curry industry enliven Britain’s high streets, boost local economies and contribute to local communities.” Indian restaurateurs Shampan Group also came within the top 3 for the category of Best Indian Restaurant in London Suburbs for the Spinning Wheel’s sister restaurant, Shampan 3.

Shampan 3 in Welling is this year celebrating their 6th anniversary, whilst Shampan 2 in Bromley is celebrating their 10 year anniversary.

A functional, sporty racing-car atmosphere is prevalent inside the SLS AMG CoupéBlack Series, with high-quality materials demonstrating precision workmanship and exquisitely designed details. There is a choice of two colour variants: Alcantara® black or Alcantara® black/red. With the two-tone variant, the door centre panels and the applications on the centre console and above the glove compartment are finished in red. The AMG Performance steering wheel with flattened bottom rim section features Alcantara® all round for a good grip. In the top section the steering wheel features a sporty red 12 o’clock marking. The real metal bezel features a high-gloss black paint finish to match the high-gloss black surrounds of the air vents. A particularly high-quality and exclusive Black Series detail is the so-called “3D seam” which runs horizontally along the dashboard: a fine Alcantara® strip in anthracite features across the entire width of the leather covering. Red contrasting stitching in the leather lend an accomplished finish to the 3D seam, underscoring the hand-crafted character.

A highlight among the optional equipment and appointments is the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround sound system, developed by Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG together with renowned Danish audio specialist Bang & Olufsen. The Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround sound system with Dolby Digital 5.1 enables an exclusive music experience of the very highest standard. This is made possible by a 1000 W amplifier and 11 loudspeakers in conjunction with precise distribution of the music signals by the sound processor according to the selectable seat positions – driver, co-driver or central.

The market launch of the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series will begin in June 2013.

Sagittarius

22 Nov-21 Dec

To end on a happy note and start with even greater

hope is all part of your destiny. Various options are

heading your way. Quick decisions will need to be

acted upon at the start of New Year. Turning the

tables on what seemed to be a hopeless situation will

prove to be productive. You will turn massive things in

your favour and just smile about it.

Capricorn

22 Dec-19 Jan

New Year has arrived for you to go forwards at a

phenomenal rate. It will make your head spin with

excitement and enthusiasm. That void that has been

there for years has finally got substance to it and you

can see a clear indication of where you are meant to

be going. There are no more hold ups and all is to your liking and

satisfaction.

Scorpio

23 oct-21 Nov

To dream is never a bad thing, only that you have to

dream big to be able to sustain your needs. You thought

you would be left high and dry, salvation came in from

an unknown quarter and gave you that new lease of life

to remove all anguish and settled your mind once and for

all. This New Year is the start of something big.

Aries

21 Mar-19 Apr

That wakeup call has finally come in. What you h a d

thought of as impossible starts to bear fruit, but fruit

of a different kind to what you have been working

towards. There will be a different venture, one much

closer to home, where you can manage all your finances

and become productive once again. The slowness of the operation

was vital to keep you on track.

Libra

23 Sep-22 oct

Being out of control is never your strong point. The time is

right to take that giant step into the unknown. You can do it

against all the odds and is even more exhilarating, proving

not only to you, but to others, you are a source to be reckon

with and that is a very powerful position to be in at the

start of this New Year.

Aquarius

20 Jan-18 feb

To be able to feel well and right on top of things will seem

rather weird to you, yet true. You have been fed so

many miss truths that you are unable to comprehend

anymore what is meaningful and right. The New Year

brings changes in your favour. You will feel this is right

for you and necessary for the new path opening up

just now.

Gemini 21 May-20 Jun

Notice your money going a little further than you thought

was possible. Your bargain hunting has paid off and

so you are able to now treat yourself for something

special that you have always wanted. Note the colour

red will seal this special gift, also alongside it will be

another you did not expect. This seals the New Year

with much blessings and tidings.

Leo 23 Jul-22 Aug

The thought that nothing will ever change is not true. All

your hard work and dedication is being given the thumbs

up and your own department or entitlement is now

being presented to you. You have made a substantial

difference to so many people’s lives. It is your turn to

smell the sweet scent of success. Live up to your reputation,

they would not expect anything less.

Cancer 21 Jun-22 Jul

To rethink your career is never easy. A final push will be

given to you to at last make that necessary move. You

have been stagnating long enough and it is high time

you no longer sell yourself short. Think big and big

comes to you, think small and then see where you are.

You know it makes sense. Take that new step where self-

fulfilment lies.

Pisces

19 feb-20 Mar

Take a deep breath of fresh air and pat yourself on the

back. All that good and exhausting work that you

have been putting in these many months have now

paid off handsomely. Never will you want again. Yes,

you can pinch yourself. It is all true. Lift up your head

and thank a Higher Power for this success. You have earned

it all.

virgo

23 Aug-22 Sep

Be prepared for big changes this year. It is necessary to

move you on. The New Year will be a riot from start to

finish, every available opportunity made possible for you.

Don’t delay, as this will be a year to remember. Being

prepared in advance gives you the edge over everybody

else. Wise up to the fact you are in a commanding

position from now on.

taurus

20 Apr-20 May

Keep cool this New Year, as you are about to make

a big splash of things and could go off course. It is

necessary to recapitalise your investments to make

them work for you in a productive way. Being alerted

to this, you are able to seal all finances in a more secure

way, so giving you the opportunity for more freedom in your daily life.
