(again, not sure if this was Sat. or Sun). HS Non-Sporting dog was Sandra Whisler’s Bos- ton Terrier, Whisbie’s Sweet Melissa. HS Herding dog was Sela Storey with Ch. Mainland High Noon UDX, OM2, PT. HS Miscellaneous dog (a breed not yet having full recognition by A KC) was MACH Jeep MXF, T2B3, a Miniature Australian Shepherd owned by Linda Smith. The HS Junior Handler was Rashel Korta with Piper the Border Collie who earned a 198 out of Novice A. Rashel and Piper are from Aztec, NM. It’s great to see the upcoming generation in the ring! I hope I haven’t missed anyone althought I sus- pect I did. After a while you go blind trying to keep all the scores straight. Pam, you certainly earned your retirement! .

Barn Hunt Trial By Lisa Berry

It’s hard to find dates that do not conflict with anything else in NM. We re-alize that this is when the Gerry Brown Agility Seminar is being held, but we are offering one Barn Hunt Trial on Friday and two each on Sat. and Sun., Sept 26-28. They will be held at Lisa Berry’s Barn Facility (387 Jareles Rd., Jareles, NM 87023. The trial on Friday will start at 6:00 p.m. Also to be offered are Drill classes for those wanting to practice before the show or to try out a new dog. Contact Lisa at: [email protected] or by phone at 505-203-9586. You can find the premium at: http/www.sdocnm.org/pdf/premiums/209.pdf. We are also considering having a small fun show for a few potential Barn Hunt judges who need the show to finish their requirements. If that occurs, Lisa will post it online.

For those of you training for Nosework, there will be an Odor Recognition Test to be held on October 12 in Los Alamos. All three odors—birch, anise, clove– - will be tested. Leslie Sher-man. The trial secretary needs volunteers who are NOT entered to help put on the test. Her e-mail address is: [email protected]. Ann Garback’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Kingsley, has dislocated his shoulder and will be in a splint for the next six weeks. Ann says she has purchased bubble wrap since this is his sec-ond major accident in less than a year. She says he needs good thoughts. Kingsley added a PS saying he needs lots of treats too! Is that right, Ann? Janice Anthes reports that she just received the Premium for the Amarillo Obedience Club trials to be held October 4 and 5. The trial will be held in the Carson County Ag Barn located at 814 East Third, Panhandle, TX 79068. AOTC says that although the trial site may be new to some of us, a number informal matches and parties have been held here, and they can attest that it is highly suitable for holding this set of trials. The main part of the building has a concrete floor, and there is a separate lunchroom that can be used for additional crating space, meals for the judges and workers, and out of sight stays. There is ample parking and lots of room for walking dogs. The building is also heated so that if the weather turns chilly, all should be comfortable. If you any other questions, please contact Carolyn Brand at: [email protected].

Special thanks to Maggie who, in addition to all her other duties at the trials, found time to take the great pictures in this newsletter! Judge Ann Lorenz with

RUN-THROUGHS OF THE FUTURE I’ll soon have the 2015 Friday Night Run-Through signup sheet posted on the bulletin board in the training room. Thanks in advance for signing up for a month or two or three. The first version of the sheet will ac-count for some, but not all, of the interruptions we can expect through the run-through year. DRILLS END Tuesday’s Super Drill ended for the year Sept. 16 and Thursday's Obedi-ence Competitive Skills Class ended Aug. 28, also for the year. Rally Drill rallies on, with the last session Oct. 26. Wednesday’s Novice Drill will end soon, so watch the web site for updates. DOOR DEBACLE You’ll recall that the front door was inoperative for several days in August. Contrary to our first impressions, it wasn’t due to an attempt-ed break-in. The door mechanism just got old. We had to call in a lock-smith, who replaced it with more durable hardware. Thanks to Len Stans for his diagnosis. Thanks to Treasurer Betty Pearson for writing the checks. And thanks to y’all for leaving the fricking thing alone until we could get it fixed. WORLD’S LONGEST CLASSES Amy Hendrickson’s current crop of 8-week Nosework classes started in mid-August will take almost until Halloween to graduate. No fewer than three events got in the way (including an Odor Recognition Test, so Nosework got in its own way). These classes had to be s t r e t c h e d over an 11-week span. That has to be some kind of record. JACQUE OBERMEYER Our stalwart in our Rally training program has left us for parts un-known (Oregon). Jacque Obermeyer devoted many an hour to teaching clas-ses and running drills in recent years. As a practical matter, she ran the Rally Program. The proof’s in the pudding, and over her tenure, many a student has achieved stellar scores and many a Rally title. Thank you for your service, Jacque.

Pam and Al Sehmer have now officially retired as Show Sec-retaries. Congratulations to them!

August General Meeting Minutes By Estelle Metz, Corresponding Secretary

The General meeting of August 29,2014 was held at SDOC at 7050 San Pedro in Albuquerque. The meeting was called to order at 7 pm by President Jeff Robb. President’s Report Our nominating committee is on track, headed up by Betty Pearson. If you are contacted, please give her your attention. We have received a letter from Valencia County Kennel Club which will be holding an Obedience/Rally round table on Oct. 12. It will address new regulations and cover the East coast ways of holding matches. It will be hosted by Pat Scully. The Valencia County premium is on line, look for it at Onofrio. Thanks to Hannah Agee who has contacted the club of her intent to step down as Agil-ity trial secretary and judge selector. However, she has already secured judges up until Sept. of 2015 for Agility. Thank you Hannah for all of your hard work on behalf of SDOC. The Gerry Brown Seminar for Agility is upcoming at the end of September. The building will be off-limits to all but participants on Sept. 26,27, and 28. Vice President’s Report Please sign in as you come in the door. Treasurer’s Report Given and on file Recording Secretary Absent Corresponding Secretary AKC has sent a notice that their records indicate they haven’t received a judges panel or an application for the tracking test on January 11, 2015. AKC has received but is unable to post notices for the May 2015 Obedience Trial because a Show Chair was not listed on the application, nor an event secretary. There are new Federal regulations to protect the health of and restrict the age of puppies imported for resale. I’ve put it on the Yahoo list and have the notice if anyone wants a copy. AKC’s corporate rate is available at Staple’s for supplies for meetings, events, etc. We are thanked for participating in Respon-sible Dog Ownership Days at our fun matches. A notice will be given to the new trial secretary about common site applications and host club permissions. If anyone is interested in the new dog sport of Barrel Racing, Turquoise Trail Dogs is conducting an organizational practice on Sat., Oct. 4, 2014 to be held at a local park (to be named). There will be no fee charged. Contact Dee Turner at [email protected]. The trial secretary for the Pahrump, Nevada Valley Obedience Club has sent a notice for their Obedience Trials to be held October 25 and 26, 2014. A member of a Mass. Club re-cently contacted SDOC for a recommendation re: Renata VanAllen and her seminars. They were given a glowing recommendation, and in return they said they recently enjoyed a seminar from Denise Fieren-ze from California. The judges panel is approved for our upcoming TD. The application itself cannot be approved pending review of information on the checklist. The paperwork has been forwarded to the tracking department. The TDX has been approved for March 8, 2015. This includes both trial and judg-es. Tracking Director’s Report Paperwork is in the works for the January’s test. All is approved for the TDX in March. All planning is going well. Obedience Director’s Report Please treat the front door kindly as repairs are finished. There are 3 Basic Novice classes coming up, as well as 2 puppy classes. Registration is going well. A security camera is to be installed in the training supply closet. Thanks to all the workers who helped make the fun match a success. Agility Director’s Report The agility committee is looking at the current club regulations to clarify training requirements. The fun match was a huge success, thanks to ALL who helped. Old Business The Fall Obedience Trial/Labor Day Agility Matches are coming up. Please volunteer if you can. New Business None

Rally Results from the Sept. Trials

We do not seem to have had nearly as many rally entries this fall as in previous years, but those we had enjoyed themselves and got some nice scores as well. I’m including all the qualifiers, whether SDOC members or not if I suspect they may be members. We’ve gained a lot of new members this year, and I’m afraid I don’t have the more recent folks.

The Prez Sez By Jeff Robb

We are in the middle of our Fall Show Season – the Agility and Obedience/Rally Fun Matches are done as is the Labor Day Obedience Trial. We still have our Fall Agility later this month and the Novice/Open Agility Trial in October to go. I hope all of you had success , or at least a good time at the Obedience/Rally Trials and wish clean runs to all entering the upcoming Agility Trials. I want to thank Donna and Jerry Faulkner as well as Jeanne Gill for Chairing the Obedience Fun Match. It went very well, with opportunities to practice our dogs at the actual site where the Obe-dience and Rally Trials were to be held. There was a Conformation Show and Go offered as well - thanks to Kim Banales. Many thanks also to Phyllis Collier for Chairing the Agility Fun Match. There were lots of people there, and it was well organized, with lots of folks helping. This was the first Agility Match for my Aussie Django and for me. He had a grand time, though not exactly un-der control, oh well it was fun. Cont. on page 7

Kudos To All! By Jeanne Gill and Phyllis Collier

Donna and Jerry Faulkner and Jeanne Gill, as co-chairs for the August Obedience Fun Match, want to thank everyone who helped make the event a success. We appreciate the expe-rience and expertise of our judges Leonore Abordo, Janice Anthes, Kim and Marco Banales, De-de Brownstein, Karen Naughton, Jacque Obermeyer, Betty Pearson, David Ray, and Catherine Waters. Several participants mentioned how much they appreciated the pointers they received from our judges. Thanks also to our stewards Talya Bowland, John Clendenin, Laurel Drew, Dee Falk, Rennie Fietz Marcie Jensen, Pam Jones, Danny and Estelle Metz, Janice Ramos, Toli Tschohl and Alli Wimber for keeping the judging process moving smoothly and adjusting ring equipment as needed. Thanks to Maggie Gee for providing the refreshments and her organizational assis-tance with the overall match and equipment. Finally, thanks to Terry Acre, Sylvia Feeney, James Gee and Jeff Robb for their efforts in moving the equipment from the Club and the setup/take down at the Sheriff’s Posse Arena. Many of you helped with multiple jobs at the event, and we really appreciate all of your support whether you are named here or not. You were so willing to pitch-in wherever needed, and that is what makes a Fun Match fun! The annual SDOC Agility Match on Saturday, August 23 was once again a great suc-cess, bringing in over $1300 for the Club and giving lots of folks a chance to practice full AKC agility courses in a trial environment. The successful event could not have happened without the hard work of a core group: Mike and Karen Provine, Chuck and Peggy Chandler, Gayle and Ray Elliott. Many, many thanks to them and to all the SDOC members and supporters who came to help. I won’t remember all the names, but Annie Newsted and Jo Ashburn were lend-ing a hand also. From unloading and set up on Friday afternoon to the final bread down about 3:30 PM on Saturday, these folks put aside their own needs and comfort to help make this match go smoothly for all the participants. Thank you all SDOC members who participated. Phyllis Collier, Agility Trial Chairman

Cont. from page 6 Thanks are also due to Dora Cressey for Chairing our 3 day Labor Day Obedience/Rally Trial. Dora continues to do a great job with this demanding task. The efforts of all of you who volun-teered to steward, help set up, hospitality, etc, etc. made this come off really well. This Trial was very special in another way as well. This Trial was Pam Sehmer's last as our Trial Secretary. She has served SDOC as Secretary for the last 14-15 years continuously and additional times for a total of around 20 years. We cannot thank you enough Pam, you have been phenomenal!! Also, many thanks to Pam's husband Al who has assisted in this task for the past 10 years – and he's not even an actual member. A special shout out to new member Sheila Feeney – she helped at both of the Fun Matches, to the very end, packing up, as well as at the Trial – thank you, thank you. The people in and around this club are truly amazing. Upcoming Obedience and Rally Trials include an ASCA set of trials the weekend of September 20 and 21 at Hoffman park – contact Tammy Seaman ([email protected]) or see the ASANM Facebook page for the premium – day-of registration OK. Also, the Valencia Valley shows in Oc-tober. In conjunction with those shows, one of the judges will be hosting a Q & A, explanation of AKC Obedience and Rally rules, including proposed changes. The premium is on-line at Onofrio. Jeff

September is a busy month for the Agility community. Novice Skills on Wednesdays at 7:oo p.m. starts up again with a new instructor, Janice Anthes. Novice Skills is for dogs who have successfully completed Beginning I. Thanks, Janice! The SDOC Agility Trial will be held Sept 19-21 at the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Posse Arena, located on north 2nd Street. The trial is closed for entries,, and everyone is welcome to come see what goes on at a trial. Agility is a volunteer-run enterprise, and we’d love to have your help. SDOC has been asked by the AKC to host a demo class—Master’s C Agility class—in conjunction with the Sept. Agility Trial. This class has never been offered anywhere in the USA, and the trial commit-tee has agreed to host the class. This is a huge testament to the caliber of our club. We’ll pass on how it goes in next month’s Double Q article. The Gerry Brown Seminar will be held on Sept. 26, 27, 28 at our SDOC Club building.
