Integrated Project

An integrated project allows children to pursue learning in a holistic way, without the restrictions often imposed by subject boundaries. It implies learning that is synthesized across traditional subject areas and learning experiences that are designed to be mutually reinforcing. This approach develops the child‟s ability to transfer their learning to other settings.

The following Integrated Project will not only help students to understand the present scenario of community health but also enable them to devise their own ways to fight with the situation and come out victorious.

Theme: COVID-19

Project: Journal/Booklet on „Fight Against Corona‟

What is a Journal?

A journal is a written record of your thoughts experiences, observations and research work. Journal writing provokes more reflection and encourages students to take charge of their learning and their feelings. Journals help students make connections between what is really important to them, the curriculum and the world

Details of the Project:

The Journal can be made on a small paper booklet or virtually. The journal should be colourful and well-illustrated. The Journal must include the following information:

What is COVID-19? What are the common myths and facts about the disease? What are the traditional Indian foods that boost immunity? How can social distancing be maintained in homes and at school? An interview of a Corona Fighter .(The interview could be imaginary

where the child can write probable answers)

Creative Writing

“Be yourself. Above all, let who you are, what you believe, shine through every sentence you write, every piece you finish.”- John Jakes

We all know that writing gives wings to our imagination and channels our frustrations and insights. What you will write now, during these trying times, will have a resonance and urgency that can be hard to generate in more stable times. We quickly forget how we feel about trials we go through, but writing helps you to capture the emotion and move on.

So get ready to fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.

WORKSHEET – 1 (Pg 14 & 15) READING COMPREHENSION

Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow:

The Tropical Rainforest

Tropical rainforests are among the most mysterious of all geographical biomes in the world. A biome is an area with very distinctive plants and animals that have adapted to life in that particular environment. Rainforests have covered large portions of the Earth for millions of years and can have trees that are thousand years-old or more. They are called rainforests because they are among the wettest areas on Earth, receiving anywhere from eighty to hundred inches of rain a year. Rainforests have four very distinct layers of trees. The first is the emergent layer which has giant trees growing from hundred to two hundred and forty feet tall. These trees have umbrella-shaped crowns that grow high above the rest of the forest. They have their own distinct plant and animal life. The next layer is called the canopy. These trees grow up to one hundred and thirty feet tall, and they form a tight canopy, or covering, over the rest of the forest which allows very little sunlight to come down. The branches and trunks of these trees are covered with smaller plants and appear to be tied together with hundreds of vines. About ninety percent of all rainforest animals live way up high in the canopy. The third layer is the understory, and it's very shady. Trees and leafy plants that require little sun grow here, with the trees growing to about sixty feet. This layer has many smaller trees, shrubs, vines, and plants, but little air movement. There are many animals and insects living in this layer. The final layer of the rainforest is the forest floor. It is surprisingly dark and less than two percent of the sun's light reaches this area. Because the sun's rays don't shine on the ground, there is very little plant life on the forest floor. It is an area covered with fallen leaves, seeds, dead flowers, fruits and branches that decompose very quickly. A. Tick the correct option and fill in the blanks: 1. In a rainforest, the tallest trees grow in the …………………………………………… a. emergent layer b. canopy c. understory

WORKSHEET – 3 (21-22) READING COMPREHENSION

Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow: There are many similarities between human beings and

animals. They eat, drink and move like us. But animals

cannot talk like us. In the 1960s, scientists in America tried

to teach chimpanzees to talk. But soon they realized that

animals did not have the right kind of vocal organs for

learning speaking skills. In 1966 scientists started teaching

American Sign Language (ASL) to a one-year old

chimpanzee named Washoe. American Sign Language is

used by speech-disabled and hearing-disabled persons.

This language uses signs instead of sounds. After four

years of training, Washoe had learnt one hundred and

thirty-two words. Most of these words were nouns and

verbs. He could communicate ideas clearly. In 1972, Dr.

Francine Patterson started working with a baby gorilla

named Koko. He taught the sign language to Koko using

children’s picture books. Koko eventually learned sixteen hundred words. Alex, an African grey

parrot who lives in Boston, can easily imitate eighty different words but she is unable to

understand the words. So she is unable to communicate effectively. In order to communicate

effectively, it is essential for an individual to comprehend the meaning of words. Language skills

cannot be acquired through sheer repetition or habitual usage. Therefore, in order to develop

communication skills, one needs to acquire the ability to comprehend the language.
