Hosting  Composers  at  Your  Church                                            Allan  Aunspaugh  Have  you  ever  thought  about  having  a  composer  at  your  church  for  an  event?  In  this  session  we  will  discuss:  choosing  a  composer,  contacting  a  composer,  timetables,  budgets,  preparing  your  choir  and  church,  sample  event  schedules.    Ancient  Gifts  for  Modern  Times                                                          John  Bell  The  Celtic  tradition  in  Christian  Spirituality  originated  in  5th  century  Ireland  and  flourished  in  the  British  Isles  until  the  9th  century.  In  recent  years  the  term  'celtic'  has  sometimes  been  used  as  an  a  euphemism  for  'trendy.'  Yet  this  ancient  tradition  preserves  some  theological  and  spiritual  insights  which  can  nourish  those  who  have  overdosed  on  the  musings  of  more  recent  western  divines.    The  Emasculation  of  Jesus    and  the  defeminisation  of  the  church                                                                            John  Bell  This  rather  bold  title  is  concerned  with  how  in  the  preaching  and  worship  of  the  church,  two  temptations  often  befall  leaders  of  worship.  One  is  to  reduce  the  immensity  of  the  incarnate  ministry  of  Christ  in  preference  for  doctrinal  statements.  Thus  in  the  Apostles  Creed,  the  life  of  Jesus  is  subsumed  by  a  comma:  'born  of  the  Virgin  Mary,  suffered  under  Pontius  Pilate.'  The  other  tendency  is  to  represent  the  great  and  diverse  regiment  of  Biblical  women  by  a  few  meek  helpmeets.  Here  we  consider  some  antidotes.    Good  Reasons  for  the  Church's  Song                                                                                                      John  Bell  Most  churches  sing.  Many  increasingly  see  music  as  primarily  associated  with  the  organ,  praise  band  and  choir.  Occasionally  preachers  regard  congregational  songs  as  fill-‐ins  between  the  most  important  aspects  of  worship,  notably  what  they  have  to  say.  But  communal  singing  is  a  biblical  imperative;  so  here  we  explore  good  reasons  for  doing  it  well.    Managing  Change  in  Worship                                                  John  Bell  For  even  the  most  liberally  minded  people,  the  issue  of  change  anywhere  in  the  life  of  the  church  is  regarded  as  anathema.  The  reasons  are  several  and  various,  but  how  people  are  enabled  to  accept  and  even  embrace  a  significant  and  essential  change  is  less  well  rehearsed.  Here  we  look  at  the  anatomy  of  change  and  how  it  can  be  affected    Singing  with  the  Global  Church                                                                                          John  Bell  Most  Western  denominations  have  some  respnsibility  for  the  evangelism  of  southern  hemisphere  nations.  We  have  readily  sent  missionaries  and  our  religious  cultural  creations  –  hymns,  liturgies  and  artistic  depictions,  but  have  been  a  little  more  reticent  to  receive  the  gifts  the  Spirit  has  bestowed  on  others  which  might  be  to  our  benefit.  In  this  seminar  we  share  some  accessible  gifts  from  the  global  church.    A  Ten  Year  Look  Back:    What  Has  Changed?                                                Randall  Bradley  My  book  From  Postlude  to  Prelude  was  published  ten  years  ago,  and  a  new  edition  is  fresh  off  the  press  in  time  for  Alleluia.    In  revising  the  book,  what  did  I  discover  has  changed?  What  has  stayed  the  same?    What  does  the  future  look  like  for  us  who  serve  the  church  through  music  and  worship?        Inspire!  Celebrating  Grace  Choral  Series                                                  Bob  Burroughs  Inspire!  Celebrating  Grace  Choral  Series  -‐-‐  is  a  new  series  written  with  senior  adult  singers  in  mind  -‐  but  not  written  primarily  for  seniors.  Ranges  are  a  bit  limited,  the  keyboard  does  not  follow  the  melody,  and  some  of  the  best  known  composers  are  writing  for  this  series  -‐  which  -‐  is  available  ONLY  online  and  not  through  any  other  resource.

Health  in  Ministry  over  the  Long  Haul              Spiritual  leaders  sometimes  feel  like  lone  rangers.  There  may  be  few  people  with  whom  they  can  step  out  of  the  role  of  minister  and  honestly  reveal  their  own  needs  and  struggles.  Ministers  are  often  quick  to  pour  out  their  energies  for  the  sake  of  others,  but  slow  to  care  adequately  for  themselves.  When  tending  to  the  needs  of  others  becomes  too  much,  they  are  at  risk  of  burnout.  This  workshop  considers  the  real  challenges  of  life  in  ministry  and  explores  the  hopeful  process  of  personal  renewal,  including  habits  for  spiritual,  emotional,  and  relational  health  and  well-‐being.    Utilizing  “Pastoral  and  Ecclesial  Imagination”  in  the  Small  Church                        Jacob  Sensenig  Small  churches  often  present  the  greatest  challenges  to  those  called  to  serve  the  church  through  music.  A  lack  of  resources,  paired  with  a  resistance  toward  change,  can  cause  anxiety,  depression,  and  despair.  Against  these  odds,  ministry  must  still  take  place,  and  an  understanding  of  the  importance  of  imaginative  thinking  for  the  minister  and  the  congregation  will  help  to  facilitate  a  necessary  paradigm  shift  in  philosophy  and  action.  First  Baptist  Church,  Hamilton,  TX  will  serve  as  a  case  study  of  a  thriving  small  church  music  ministry  and  a  hopeful  picture  of  what  is  possible.    Cracking  the  Chord  Code                                                    Larry  Shackley  Learn  the  meaning  of  the  most  common  chord  symbols,  and  how  you  can  use  them  to  create  simple  accompaniments.  You’ll  also  receive  a  handout  that  will  enable  you  to  analyze  and  play  HALF  of  today’s  current  worship  songs.
