Overview:

• This delivery schedule relates to the papers in GEO/MAIN, GEO/ADD, MED, EB/EB, MRH and the Royal Library. The total

number of pages of material is estimated to be over 340,000. A decision has been made to place the GEO/BOXES series

outside of the scope of this initial delivery schedule. Analysis has shown that these collections, which comprise an estimated

115,000 pages of material and primarily contain financial papers and documents relating to the trial and divorce of Queen

Caroline of Brunswick, require significant additional resources (particularly in terms of conservation) before the cataloguing

and digitisation of the GEO/BOXES series can be undertaken. Further work will be carried out to consider options and costs

for the GEO/BOXES series.

• The delivery of the GPP metadata by the Royal Archives and Royal Library has been divided into 13 main phases of work up to

December 2020; each phase up to phase 12 will last four months in duration. The public availability of the documents will lag

behind the projected dates below, and the same may be true of access to King’s Friends, as there will be a testing phase after

initial upload.

• Some collections will take more than one phase to catalogue and these have been divided into packages accordingly. George

III’s official papers, or Calendar, for example, will take more than ten phases– these can be identified in the tracker as

GIII_CALENDAR_01, GIII_CALENDAR_02 etc. The Calendar packages and Royal Library packages will be delivered once they

are completed. Those collections divided into two or three packages, such as the papers of Princess Amelia, will be delivered

as a whole, once all packages are digitised and catalogued.

Points to be aware of:

• The delivery schedule is dependent on estimates for digitisation and cataloguing time. These have been projected upon the

basis of experience in Phases 1 and 2. Phases 3 and 4 in particular will test the viability of these projections and amendments

to subsequent parts of the schedule may be necessary.

• There is scope for flexibility in the delivery schedule, based on the needs of programme partners and the GPP

Communications Planning and Policy Group.

• In order to support the attachment of digitised images and user needs effectively, it is envisaged that most collections in the

Georgian Papers will be catalogued to item level (in the case of individual documents) and to file level in the case of volumes.

However, experience from phase 1 suggests that even with the capacity noted above it will not be possible to catalogue files of

case papers (such as loose bills and medical reports) in detail and that where possible such material will be catalogued at file

rather than item level in the first instance. Catalogue descriptions will ensure that online users can identify whether a file

includes material of interest, but users will then have to look at the images to identify particular items relevant to them.
