TODAY’S READINGS  Reading 1 ACTS 3:13-15, 17-19 Peter said to the people: “The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied in Pilate’s presence when he had decided to release him. You denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. The author of life you put to death, but God raised him from the dead; of this we are witnesses. Now I know, brothers, that you acted out of ignorance, just as your leaders did; but God has thus brought to fulfillment what he had announced beforehand through the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer. Repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away.” Responsorial Psalm PS 4:2, 4, 7-8, 9 R. (1) Lord, let your face shine on us or: R. Alleluia. When I call, answer me, O my just God, you who relieve me when I am in distress; have pity on me, and hear my prayer! R. Know that the LORD does wonders for his faithful one; the LORD will hear me when I call upon him. R. O LORD, let the light of your countenance shine upon us! You put gladness into my heart. R. As soon as I lie down, I fall peacefully asleep, for you alone, O LORD, bring security to my dwelling. R. Reading 2 1 JN 2:1-5A My children, I am writing this to you so that you may not commit sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one. He is expiation for our sins, and not for our sins only but for those of the whole world. The way we

may be sure that we know him is to keep his commandments. Those who say, “I know him,” but do not keep his commandments are liars, and the truth is not in them. But whoever keeps his word, the love of God is truly perfected in him. Alleluia LK 24:32 R. Alleluia, alleluia. Lord Jesus, open the Scripture to us; make our hearts burn while you speak to us. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel LK 24:35-48 The two disciples recounted what had taken place on the way, and how Jesus was made known to them in the breaking of bread. While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost. Then he said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.” And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed, he asked them, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of baked fish; he took it and ate it in front of them. He said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. And he said to them, “Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.”

THE TABERNACLE: WHERE IS IT TO BE SITUATED? The Tabernacle (Latin: tabernaculum, “tent”) is a liturgical furnishing to house the Eucharist outside of Mass for the purpose of the adoration of the faithful and for later use (e.g. communion of the sick). In the ancient Biblical times the Tabernacle stood in the center of the Israelite camp. It is the place of the visible manifestation of Yahweh in the cloud and the glory. The Tabernacle had two names in Hebrew: (1) “Dwelling” - signifying that the Tabernacle is the place where Yahweh dwells among his people, and (2) “Tent of Meeting” - that is, the meeting of Yahweh and Israel through Moses. Exodus 25:9ff points out that the Tabernacle is constructed according to heavenly pattern or model shown to Moses on Mount Sinai. The entire Mount Sinai became sacred by the coming of Yahweh. Mount Sinai itself is a foreshadowing of the Tabernacle, distinguished by certain distinct demarcation or boundaries among the people of Israel, the priest, and Moses. Exodus 19:24 - And the Lord said to Moses “Go down, and come up bringing Aaron with you; but do not let either the priests or the people break through to come up to the Lord; otherwise, He break out against them.” Although Aaron was allowed to accompany Moses to his ascent to Yahweh, the priest and the people were expressly forbidden. Yahweh’s turf must be respected. That is to say that Mount Sinai was clearly marked by various degrees of holiness: the people of Israel at the foot of Mt. Sinai (Holy Ground), the priests and the Levites at the mid-section of the Mount (Holier Ground) and the mountain-top where Moses conversed with Yahweh (Holy of Holies). SOLOMON’S TEMPLE The first Temple in Jerusalem, often called Solomon’s Temple, was the first permanent House of God as found in the I King 6. Solomon’s Temple could very well be called a prefigurement of Christian churches. In fact, traditional churches take some design feature from that first “Bet Yahweh” (House of Yahweh) which Solomon erected to the Lord in 966 B.C. The structure of the Temple basically had three main divisions: the Outer Court, the Inner Sanctuary, and the Holy of Holies, wherein the Tabernacle was situated.

THE VATICAN II The document “Instruction on the Worship of the Eucharistic Mystery” (Eucharistic Mysterium), a post conciliar document issued by the Vatican following the Council states: “The Blessed Sacrament should be reserved in a solid, inviolable Tabernacle in the middle of the main altar or on a side altar, but in a truly prominent place. Alternately, according to legitimate custom and individual cases to be decided by the local ordinary, it may be placed in some other part of the Church which is really worthy and properly equipped.” The Catechism of the Catholic Church #1183 states: The Tabernacle is to be situated “in churches in a most worthy place with the greatest honor.” The dignity, placing, and security of the Eucharistic Tabernacle should foster adoration before the Lord really present in the blessed sacrament of the Altar. Considering the lost of faith in the Real Presence that is evident in recent polls by Catholics and the obligation to foster adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, I am convinced that the time has come to return the Tabernacle to a truly prominent place of honor in the main body of Church here at St. Christopher.
