Glorify God
in Worship!
It’s part of our
calling here at
our church –
glorify God in
worship. And it is truly thrilling when we gather
together as the body of Christ on Sunday mornings to worship. There is
something sacred about a people coming together with one central
purpose. I am reminded of the hymn we sang last Sunday. “Blest be
the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; the fellowship of kindred
minds is like to that above.”
As the people of God we are bound together with ties of love. That love
should overflow our hearts and pour out to the world around us. God’s
love, and our love for God and others, is always a call to action. A call
to seek out the least, the last and the lost. A call to “make disciples of
Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
I am excited about the ways that God has been moving in our worship
and in our community. So many new people have been coming to
worship this past year and I believe God is pouring out His grace on us
in this time. Just look at our average worship attendance. In 2011 our
average attendance was 322, in 2012 our average attendance was
365 and so far in 2013 our average attendance is 418!
And those of you who attend the traditional service know that we are
about full! But what is even more exciting to me is the amount of first
time visitors we have had this past year. In 2012 we had 63 first-time
guests from Canyon/Amarillo, not people passing through or visiting
family, attend the traditional service. Our contemporary service had
109 first-time guests!
Because of this growth, it is apparent that we, as a church, need to
move quickly to accommodate those new people who want to worship
with us. In response to this, the Trustees of our church have formed a
“Study Committee” to look into launching a new traditional service to
meet these worship demands on Sunday morning without losing
momentum. This study committee will present a report to the Charge
Conference of the church on Wed., May 29, at 7:00 p.m. in the
Sanctuary. Everyone is invited to attend and there will be ample
opportunity to ask questions.
Currently our plan is to have an early traditional service and start a late
traditional service, while moving our contemporary service to the
Fellowship Hall where it will take place simultaneously with the late
traditional service. We feel that in order to not lose momentum with
our contemporary service, we will have to invest in improvements to
the Fellowship Hall to make it conducive to a vibrant service. Our goal
is to make this change by January 2014.
This is an exciting time for our church, and I hope that you will continue
to be in prayer as we seek God’s wisdom and direction.
Blessings,
Rick Enns
P.S. I want to remind you also to join me in prayer at the altar rails
every Sunday morning 15 minutes before the service starts.

A Note From the Pastor
Called Charge Conference
Wednesday, May 29th, 7:00 p.m., Sanctuary
The purpose of this called Charge Conference is to vote
on the report from our Study Committee that has been
meeting to look at the possibilities of starting a new
traditional worship service and remodel our Fellowship
Hall to accommodate our contemporary service. Further,
we will vote to authorize moving forward the
recommended remodeling project per the Book of
Discipline of the United Methodist Church par. 2544.3
and elect a building committee to develop plans and cost
estimates (Book of Discipline, par. 2544.3a). This
authorization is not the final authorization for a building
project. Other church/charge conferences will be
necessary before that is completed (Book of Discipline
par. 2544.6 and 2544.7).
Our calling is to:
Glorify God in worship,
Grow in love of Jesus,
Give our lives in love of
Jesus.

Yea!!!!! Summer is right
around the corner! This year
has flown by. But what a
great year it has been. God
has blessed us beyond
measure. Even though it’s
time for a different pace of
life, we will have Vacation
Bible School July 8-11. All kids are welcome
and parents you are too! Volunteer sign up
sheets can be found outside my office along
with registration forms for the kids in your life. I
invite your whole family to participate.
I am looking for enthusiastic volunteers
to teach Sunday school this summer. We all
enjoy our vacation time, but it leaves holes on
Sundays some times. I am not looking for long
term commitments (unless God and the kids
pull your heart strings that way), I’m just looking
for you to spend a Sunday or two with some
amazing kids. A sign up sheet can be found by
my office or in your Sunday school room.
I look forward to hearing from you all
and hope that God places it on your heart to try
something new. I’m here to answer any
questions.
Blessings,
Kim Hopson

Dear Pastor Rick and Church Family,
I have been thinking of you and intending to write,
but haven’t made the time to do so until now. In my
defense, I have been a LITTLE busy, but that is
beside the point! I wanted to write to tell you a bit
about my life here at Asbury and to express my
appreciation to all of you.
In spite of the fact that this is my first semester in
school in more than thirty years, I think I am
adjusting well. So far, I am keeping up with the
reading and the writing, although some days are
more difficult than others. One of the things I love
about Asbury is the commitment to mind and heart.
The academics are rigorous, but the professors are
also concerned with students’ spiritual formation. I
am being challenged to grow in knowledge and
critical thinking, and I am being challenged to grow
in my walk with Christ. Growth and change are not
always easy, so I would love for you to keep me in
your prayers!
I also want you to know how much I appreciate you
and the support you have given me in this
adventure. Thank you for the financial support and
for the encouragement you have sent my way. I am
so grateful for all you have done! I knew I belonged
to a great church, but that fact has become even
more obvious since I have been here. As I have
visited with several of my new friends here at
Asbury, I have heard how many of them are
struggling because they have not received any
support from their home churches – not even
encouraging words. But, you have blessed me
more than I could ever imagine. I love you all so
much!
I miss all of you and would love to hear from you.

and will continue to pray for you.
