Getting Started• Identify the problem• Research • Results on how to solve the problem

The ProblemMany students attending college have very busy lives outside of school. With work, kids, activities, and just everyday life people are busy. If a student is taking classes at the college they need more flexibility in the times that the classes are offered. Without flexibility students are forced to wait longer to take certain classes until they are offered at a time that works with their schedules.

Steps to Start College• Fill out FAFSA• Student Enrollment Application• Placement Testing• Orentation• Schedule Classes

Classes on CampusPros• Face to face time with

Professors• Student interaction• Easier to focus without

surrounding commotion

Cons• Flexibility Issues• Parking• Length of Classe

Classes on Campus Cont….

• Attending classes at the school can be challenging for some because of the issues of the class being offered at the right time. Some students need that one on one with the professors. However if the class isn’t offered during a time that works for the student they may be forced to wait to take the class or some may even try taking the class online. • If students wait to take classes for a

different semester it can throw their schedule off and potentially move back their graduation date.

Finding a solution to the flexibility of classes is really important for many different colleges. Students want to finish their courses on time and move forward.

Possible Solutions• Simple way to search for classes to reduce confusion• Bigger variety of class times• Allow students to take certain classes elsewhere if COTC

cant be as flexible as needed• Offer weekend classes• Hire more professors to reduce the existing employees

workload• More active student advisors

Option #1• By making a more simple way to search for classes it will

help students not get so confused. If students could search for only on campus classes for a certain class, location, and semester without other options coming up they wouldn’t have to scroll through multiple suggestions that don’t apply to what they’re looking for. I personally dislike looking through different choice that I didn’t search.

Option #2• If a class if offered two times a week for two hours a day in

the morning then the same should be offered for evenings as well. Not adding another day with longer times.

Option #3• If COTC cant be as flexible as some students need or offer

classes during certain semesters, then students should be able to take the classes elsewhere and have those credit hours transferred back to COTC. This would help students be able to finish their degrees on time without having to do much.

Option #4• COTC could also offer weekend classes. This would help

those students who are fortunate enough to have weekends off. They would be able to take their classes on their days off instead of trying to work classes around their work schedules.

Options #5• Hire more professors. Most professors at COTC teach

multiple different classes. By them doing so it really limits the flexibility each professor can offer. If they are teaching 4 or 5 different classes they can’t offer much flexibility wise. If adding more professors would be in the budget then it would help spread the work load out more.

Option #6• If student advisors could be more active with students it

would help out a lot. Having someone who can help determine when classes should be taken and in what order would help students in the beginning. They would have something to go by. Advisors could help students determine which classes are offered semester and help build their schedules based on that information.

OverallThere are multiple different ways to go about fixing this problem at Central Ohio Technical College. If they would look into the problem and research different solution options they could come up with something that is affordable for them while also being convenient for the students.
