AOH Presidents MessageGreetings, brothers!
I hope 2019 is treating you nicely. JFK Division 1 is having a great year. The help, suggestions, and encouragement you all provide makes this effort certainly worth it.
Have you been to our Sunday breakfast? Worthy Vice President John Humphrey and his crew do a spectacular job every last Sunday of the month. It's all you can eat and the food is terrific. Come on after church and enjoy breakfast with your brothers and sisters. You'll be glad you did.
Upcoming events include something occurring in March and we are asking for all hands on deck. St. Patrick's Day is the 17th (did I really have to explain that?). We need your help for at least an hour. Then, after we have recovered from St. Patrick's day, on April 7, 2019 we will have a showing of "Heart of Nuba," the story of Amsterdam, NY native Dr. Tom Catena. He operates one hospital, is the only doctor and services over 1,000,000 people in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. The donation is $10.00 and proceeds will go directly to Dr. Catena's Operation Broken Silence. Please join us.
On April 28, 2019 we will celebrate our annual Communion Breakfast. Our guest and speaker will be Dr. Elizabeth Stack, the Executive Director of the Irish American Heritage Museum in Albany. I hear that this breakfast is also all you can eat and I hear that Brother John Humphrey will again be preparing the food. Thanks, John! We love you!
The "Find the Queen" game, as of today, has 50 cards left. We will have a drawing on Friday, February 15, 2019 and at the other functions (except St. Patrick's day) mentioned here. Tickets are only $1.00 and you must be present to win. Finding the queen splits the pot, with $200.00 minimum prize. There are other money cards, too. You only need a dollar and a dream.
Please don't forget our golf tournament on June 7th. Please, if you know a golfer or anyone who just wants to come to a great steak dinner, let them know about this wonderful event. If you don't have a good time at the tournament, please see a doctor. There is something wrong!
Thank you everyone for making this one of the most rewarding things I have done in some time. I enjoy the job and certainly welcome any suggestions and/or criticisms you may have. Before you criticize, though, pay your dues!
In our motto,
Tom

Message from National President Judge McKay
Brothers
As you are no doubt aware from the news, the prospect that Britain’s decision to pursue Brexit will result in a hard border in Ireland is
increasing daily. The consequence to the people of Ireland, north and south, cannot be understated. The past two decades has seen the artificial walls of mistrust that were constructed to further special interest slowly being replaced by bridges of peace and understanding. A hard border in Ireland would wind back the clock nearly a hundred years and threatens the peace and prosperity of the entire island.Congressman Brendan Boyle has introduce a resolution, H.Res.88 , expressing the opposition of the House of Representatives to the impositions of a hard border in Ireland. We ask you to reach out to your local Congressional Representative and ask them to co-sponsor and support this resolution. Broad, bi-partisan support for Congressman Boyle’s resolution will send a clear message that the US is watching developments in Ireland and will not tolerate the interests of the Irish people being sacrificed for Brexit.
You may find details on how to contact your Congressional Representative here https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative. You may find a sample dialogue to use in contacting your congressional representative here, but you are of course at liberty to use your own words.
A 5 minute phone call to our elected representatives in the cause of the peace and security of Ireland is a small thing to ask in support of the land of our ancestors.
In Our Motto,
James F. McKay
