THE GROWING NEED FORENGINEERING TALENT

Oil and natural gas supply almosttwo-thirds of the world’s energyneeds today and are likely to continue to do so for manydecades to come. Even with therapid development of alternativesources of energy, more efficientconsumption of hydrocarbons, and necessary mitigation of carbon dioxide emissions, thedemand for oil and gas willstrengthen, driven by the world’sdeveloping economies.

In this landscape, the explorationand production (E&P) industry isincreasingly challenged to bringnew supplies on line, on time, andat acceptable cost.

While the world is not running outof oil and gas reserves anytimesoon, their future developmentposes significant challenges foran industry that has only recentlyemerged from a long period ofunder-investment.

New exploration, some of whichhas already begun, will be hampered by the remoteness, inaccessibility, or geological complexity of many areas.

Reservoirs that have been producing for many years requireincreasing effort to sustain production levels as performancedeclines become progressivelymore difficult to reserve.
