GENERAL/ALL AREAS OF STUDYAccess & Equity Scholarship

Established in 1996 by a major donation from the Knight Foundation in conjunction with individual donors. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist minority students in pursuit of an associate degree and to lay a foundation for future advancement in technical fields.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a second year student; and2) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater and maintain that average in order to retain the scholarship.

Candidates may reapply for the scholarship only if the GPA of 3.0 has been maintained during the previous scholarship semester.

Burroughs Foundation Scholarship

Funds provided by the Conway-based Burroughs Family Foundation. The scholarship was established 1987 to provide opportunity for students in financial need.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry County; and2) Must be enrolled full-time in an associate degree program.

Clyde D. Govan Scholarship

Established in 1990 by Mrs. Govan, a Horry County resident who wished to provide funds for educational opportunities for those who had severe financial need.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or greater; and2) Must be enrolled in an associate degree program.

D.L. Scurry Foundation Scholarship

Established in 1994 by the Scurry Foundation, the Fund assists students enrolled in an associate degree program who need financial assistance.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County; and2) Must be enrolled full-time or part-time in a certificate or associate degree program. David “Tommy” Jones Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2000 by friends and family to honor the memory of Tommy Jones.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County; and2) Must be enrolled in his or hers first semester, either full-time or part-time.

Desiree Monique Lilly Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2015, this scholarship honors the memory of Ms. Desiree Monique Lilly, a graduate of HGTC.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Georgetown County;2) Must be enrolled full-time;3) Must be a second-year student;4) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater; and5) Must provide an essay of 500 words or more describing how he or she is a positive role model at Horry-Georgetown Technical College and within his or her (Georgetown) community.

Disabled American Veterans Chapter 57 Conway Scholarship

Established on June 25, 2018 by the DAV Chapter 57. This scholarship is to assist military veterans who have qualified as a disabled veteran under the Veterans Administration guidelines. The individual will submit paperwork from either the Veterans Administration or their County Veterans Assistance office as proof of the disability. Any military veteran who has qualified with the Veterans Administration as a disabled veteran regardless of the percentage or type of disability would qualify.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a disable military veteran.

Douglas Murphy Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2003 by Dr. Marilyn Fore, friends, and family to honor the memory of Douglas Murphy, Dr. Fore’s brother.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

Earl E. Husted Memorial Scholarship

Established in 1993 by Audrey M. Husted to celebrate the life of her husband.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County;2) Must be a second-year student; and3) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Ernest William Brucks Family Scholarship

Established in November of 1997 by the Brucks family and friends. This scholarship recognizes the Ernest William Brucks family for their dedication and support of HGTC’s students and faculty.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County;2) Must be enrolled full-time or part-time;3) Must be a second-year student; and4) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Franklin and Elsie Burroughs Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2000 by the family to honor the memory of Franklin and Elsie Burroughs, long-time residents of Conway.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry County, as confirmed by either being born in Horry County or graduating from an Horry County High School;2) Must be enrolled full-time; and3) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater.

Gayle Harrison McGinnis Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2007 by Mr. Frank McGinnis to honor the memory of his mother, Gayle Harrison McGinnis.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a single mother;2) Must be enrolled full-time or part-time;3) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage and assist children of GSWSA employees to pursue a degree at Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be the child of a Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority employee.

Helen G. Stuart Scholarship

Established in 1999, by the Alumni Association of HGTC, this scholarship memorializes Helen Stuart, who founded the Alumni Association in 1988, and who served as staff coordinator until her retirement in 1999.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County;2) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or greater; and3) Must demonstrate financial need.

Horry and Georgetown County State Farm Agents Scholarship

Established in 2009, by the following Horry and Georgetown County State Farm Agents: Carolyn Bailey; Mary Kendall Bittle; Wade Davis; Linda Edwards; John Griggs, Jr.; Charleen Johnson; Bobby Kelly, Jr.; Tom Leonard; Pat Siau; Jackie Stokes; Charlie Stuart, Jr.; and Wyman Wise.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be resident of Horry or Georgetown County.

Jackson Family Scholarship

Established in 2015 by the Jackson Family Donor Advised Fund to assist Jackson Companies “Teammates” and their dependents to pursue a degree at Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a Jackson Companies “Teammate” or a dependent of a Jackson Companies “Teammate” (“Teammates” will take highest priority);2) “Teammates” must be enrolled in one of the following programs of study: Hospitality Management, Golf & Sports Turf Management, Turf Grass Science, or Residential HVAC Technician. Dependents of “Teammates” may be enrolled in any degree program.3) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County4) Must be enrolled full-time;5) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.

James H. Burroughs Memorial Scholarship

Established in 1991 by the late Senator Strom Thurmond to memorialize James H. Burroughs of Conway.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County;2) Must be enrolled full-time; and3) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Little River Lions Club William S. Arial Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2009 by the Little River Lions Club.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Little River, SC or Longs, SC;2) Must be a second-year student;3) Must be enrolled full-time; and4) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Living Memorial Scholarship

Established in 1980 as a scholarship and memorial fund to deceased friends, students, faculty, and staff members of the College.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County; and2) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or greater.

Mack Henderson Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2014 this scholarship honors the memory of Andrew “Mack” Henderson who was a professor in the Science department at HGTC.

Recommendations from HGTC faculty and staff are to be considered and reviewed.

Margaret Hunter Shaw Scholarship

Established in 1996 through the estate of the late Margaret Hunter Shaw, and contributions from family and friends.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County;2) Must be a second-year student; and3) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credit hours;2) Must be 25 years of age or older;3) Must have earned 30 credit hours;4) Must demonstrate financial need;5) Must be a resident of Horry County;6) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or greater; and7) Preference will be given to female applicants.

Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Conway and Myrtle Beach Scholarship

Established in 1988 for employees of the company and their family.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Marion County.2) Must be in an associate degree program related to the following studies: sales, marketing, and hospitality management.

Surfside Rotary Club Scholarship

Established in August 2016 by the Surfside Rotary Club. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize an outstanding student to help support college tuition or books. This money would be given to a student who is working full time and going to school full time and has no other college support.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry County;2) Must have graduated from an Horry County High School;3) Must be a full-time student;4) Must volunteer in the community;5) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.

The Sun News Educational Foundation Scholarship

This annual scholarship was established in 2011 by The Sun News Educational Foundation.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County; and2) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Walter K. Harris Memorial Scholarship

Established in December 2017 upon the passing of Mr. & Mrs. Walter K. Harris.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a enrolled in their second year; and2) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater.

Proverbs 3:27 Scholarship

Established in 2015 by Monica Westcott, a graduate of HGTC’s paralegal program. When she attended HGTC, she was a single mother, working full-time, and taking classes full-time. She received two scholarships and it helped her continue her education. She wants to give back and help change someone else’s life.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a full-time student;2) Must be a second-year student;3) Must have earned 12 credit hours in major;4) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater; and5) Must be a single parent over the age of 25.

Rosen Family Scholarship

Established in 2006 by Brenda and Benedict Rosen of Myrtle Beach. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide unmet educational needs to HGTC students.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County;2) Must be enrolled full-time or part-time;3) Must be a second-year student; and4) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater.

South Atlantic Bank Community Scholarship

Established in 2015 by South Atlantic Bank, this scholarship is provided to a student who exemplifies commitment to academic excellence and service to the community.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a graduate of a Horry or Georgetown County High School;2) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County;3) Must be a full-time student;4) Must be a second semester freshman;5) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater; and6) Must have a total of three references. Two are to be from professors and the third from your employer or the community.7) Preference is given to students with recent or current community service.

Delia Booth Floyd Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2016 by Locke and Cathy Floyd to honor Locke’s mother, Delia Floyd. Delia was a single mother who returned to school and pursued a career in teaching.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County;2) Must be a student in the Associate in Arts – Education Transfer program;3) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or greater;4) Sciences programs may also be considered.5) Preference is given to a parent, single or married.

Associate in Science – Turf Grass ScienceJackson Family Scholarship

Business Technology

Margaret Stone Capps Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Established in November 2018 by Mr. Winston Ronald Capps in memory of his mother, Margaret Stone Capps

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be enrolled in either the Business or Nursing Program.

Charles L. Hunley Scholarship

Established in 1983 by Mr. Hunley who grew up spending summers with his family at Pawleys Island, SC and later became the vice-president of Belk.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be enrolled in a Business Technology program;2) Must be a resident of Georgetown County;3) Must be attending classes at Georgetown Campus; and4) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or greater.

Donald C. Wilch Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2009 by family, co-workers, and friends. This scholarship honors the memory of Professor Don Wilch, a long-time instructor at HGTC who passed away in the summer of 2009.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be enrolled in an associate degree program for General Business or Accounting.

Hospitality Management

Major General James F Hackler, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2008 by the Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach, this scholarship honors the memory of General Hackler, who passed away in 2007.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be enrolled in one of the following programs: Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or Golf & Sports Turf Management; and2) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater.

Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association Scholarship

Established in 2018 by the MBAHA, this scholarship is utilized to support the students in the Hospitality and Tourism Management programs.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be enrolled in the Hospitality Management program.

Fortune Academy Scholarship

Established in 2003 by Fortune Academy in Myrtle Beach, this scholarship is available through the College’s Continuing Education program to provide funding to students enrolled in Real Estate courses through the partnership with Fortune Academy & HGTC.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County; and2) Must be enrolled in the Real Estate Program at HGTC.

DEVELOPMENTAL STUDIES

Sister Elizabeth Ogilvie Scholarship

Established in 2003 by friends and family to honor the memory of, Sister Elizabeth, a long-time instructor at the college.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County;2) Must be or have been an LCS student; and3) Must demonstrate financial need or hardship.

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

Mead & Hunt Scholarship

Established in 2015 by Mead & Hunt, Inc.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be enrolled in the Engineering Technology program;2) Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County;3) Must be enrolled full-time; and4) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Civil Engineering Technology

Centex Rooney Scholarship

Established in November 1991 by the Centex Rooney Construction Company of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be enrolled in the Civil Engineering Technology program;2) Must be a first-year student; and3) Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or greater.

Construction Management Technology

CRG Companies, Living Beach, and GigaTECH Construction Trade Scholarship

Established in 2018 by Terri Nardslico owner of the three companies in an effort to support those seeking higher education in our community as well as filling the workforce gap in our industry.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

1) Must be enrolled in the Construction Management program;

Ralph C. Bussey Construction Management Scholarship

Established in 2015 in memory of Ralph C. Bussey by the Horry-Georgetown Home Builders Association.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:

Established in 2006 by a grant from the Yawkey Foundation. This scholarship honors the memory of Christine Armstrong, a long-time resident of Georgetown County.

Horry County Firefighters Relief Fund Scholarship

Established in 2009, The Horry County Firefighters Relief Fund has assisted many firefighters and their families in great times of need. The fund is dedicated to assisting and improving the lives of Horry County firefighters, rescue workers, their families, and the communities they serve.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant:
