January 2016
Dear Students and Parents:
Local Scholarships are available to all Southington 12th grade students. The listing will be
available on Thursday, January 21st on the Southington High School website. This is
your primary access to these local scholarships.
Scholarships are in alphabetical order by scholarship name, a description of the
scholarship, an explanation of selection process, the value (when available) and the
method of transmittal are included.
Each scholarship has an application, unless otherwise noted. It will be either a common
application or a specific application.
Specific applications will only be available on Naviance and can be accessed until
Friday, March 4, 2016. Students are responsible for mailing (postmarked by) or
delivering completed applications to scholarship donors by Saturday, March 5th. If you
are a Southington resident but attend a private, technical or magnet school, you will
need to contact SHS for specific applications.
A list of the local scholarships along with specific directions to the “Naviance Family
Connection” are available at http://www.southingtonschools.org/page.cfm?p=8822.
Scholarship recipients will be announced at the Southington High School Awards
Program which will be held this year on Thursday, May 19th beginning at 7:00 p.m. in
the high school’s auditorium.
We wish you good luck in your pursuit and hope that this information is helpful in
your scholarship process.

STUDENT DIRECTIONS FOR APPLYING FOR LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Southington High School makes available Local Scholarships eligible to Southington students and
awarded at the Scholarship Awards Program in May.
Go through this Local Scholarship listing and identify all that you qualify for.
Complete the common application for scholarships requiring it, leaving the name of the
scholarship blank (you will fill this in after making the proper number of copies for all those
scholarships you are applying which require the common application).
For scholarships that require a specific application, log into “Naviance Family Connection”
In Naviance under the “Colleges” tab, scroll down to the “Scholarships and Money” section and
click on “Scholarship List”.
To review these scholarships, access the pull down menu next to “browse by category” and click
“Local Scholarships”. These local scholarships are noted with an asterisk and the word “LOCAL”
as well as being in all upper case letters.
View these scholarships carefully. Only apply for those scholarships for which you qualify. For instance,
if your career choice is nursing, then you should not be applying for scholarships designed for students
who want to be teachers.
Most scholarships require the common application, unless otherwise specified. Specific applications that
are required can be found on Naviance.
Follow directions! Applications must be neat and legible. You must provide all requested information.
Not following directions may cost you a scholarship!
Before you submit your applications for consideration you must pick up your class rank and GPA labels
from the School Counseling Office the week of February 29nd
. You are responsible for affixing these
labels to your applications on the top, right hand corner. You will receive only 30 labels. Therefore,
when using the Common Application you may choose to complete one copy, attach label and make
copies. Do not fill in scholarship name before making your copies. After copying, you will then put
name of scholarship on each application.
All applications must be completed and mailed (postmarked) or delivered to sponsoring organization
by Saturday, March 5th. Addresses of each scholarship’s contact person/organization are indicated in
this listing.
The local scholarship listing & common application will only be available online through Friday, March
4, 2016.
