Pupil Achievements
Scholarship Success
Many congratulations to Neeya Bhadresha who has been awarded an Academic Scholarship to Northampton High School. Very well done, Neeya, on this wonderful news.
Visiting Head
Next Friday, Dr Stringer, the new Headmistress of Northampton High School, will be speaking in assem-bly and, as always, she will be delighted to meet parents afterwards over coffee in the Drawing Room.
Cross-Country
The competition in the Swanbourne Chase cross-country event yesterday was unbelievably strong and our children achieved excellent results, with the Junior Girls coming 1st, Senior Girls 2nd, Junior Boys 4th and Senior Boys 5th. Well done to all those who participated on what was a tough course.
History Week
Next week is one of the most exciting events of the year, History Week, where lots of special activities and events will be taking place, including History Drama Workshops, the ‘Who is that Baby?’ Staff Photo-graph Competition, the Second World War History Café and the ‘What’s Your Story?’ – interesting arte-fact competition. As always, my thanks to Mrs Hemmings and the History Department for putting to-gether what I am sure will be a fascinating week.
Year 8 Informal Concert
This was a fantastic evening with so many Year 8 soloists performing. It really was quite a remarkable number of children who performed, some for the last time at Spratton. Very well done to all.
Ash Wednesday Services
These services take place next Wednesday, with Years 6, 7 and 8 at 8.50 am and Years 3, 4 and 5 at 9.15 am, as always, in St Andrew’s Church. I do hope many of you are able to join us.
Easter Church Services
We have had to bring forward, by one day, our Easter Services as the members of the clergy in our par-ish are unavailable because they are attending the Maundy Thursday renewal of ordination vows at Pe-terborough Cathedral. The new date for our Easter Services is Wednesday 23rd March.
Year 3 Drama Production
The children have been working very hard towards their production ‘Reach for the Sky’ which takes place in the Hunter Hall next Tuesday at 5.30 pm. I am sure it will be a most entertaining evening and I am very much looking forward to it.
Thank you
The Informal Concert on Tuesday involving Year 8 musicians
was a thoroughly enjoyable event. We were treated to
some excellent solos of such a high standard and a real
range of different styles of music and instruments.

A re-minder to Junior Song that they will also be rehearsing with them on Tuesday 9th of February instead of their normal Wednesday night practice. Please be aware that the rehearsals will finish at the later time of 5.20 pm.

A letter has been sent out to all those pupils involved. Please return the reply slip as soon as possible.
Spanish Club
Since 2000 the Modern Languages Department has been offering Spanish as a
language club. Some members of Year 6 to Year 8 have been involved in the
Spanish Club on Thursdays in the spring term. The pupils have been learning
some topical expressions and grammar but also some aspects of cultural life in
Spain. They have also been introduced to Spanish traditional and modern mu-
sic.
They have been studying Spanish through the means of websites such as Lin-
guaprime, Linguascope, Languagesonline and Languagenut. In those activities,
they listen and match words, do closing exercises and complete word-search.
They can also enter a test at the end to assess their learning. They have been
able to engage in role-play situations as well as answering and asking ques-
tions in Spanish. They have also been completing worksheets based on the
studied vocabulary.
We have also been watching some videos,
and teaching the pupils the correct pronun-
ciation of words on selected topics. Finally,
the pupils have also been learning the
Spanish alphabet and the differences be-
tween European and South American spo-
ken Spanish. Mr Seguin
Senior Choir Senior Choir has been invited to perform in one of the NMPAT Sum-mer Concerts. They will be performing on the evening of Friday 20th May. Please keep the date free.
Termination of Music Lessons Please be aware that if you wish to cancel music lessons from the start of the summer term, notice must be received by February half term.
All Saints Church Congratulations to Ethen Powell who has been successful with his audition to join the Choristers in the Boys’ Choir at All Saints’ Church in Northampton.

As we all know, part of developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is being physically active. ‘Physical
Development’ is one of the Prime Areas of Learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, which is followed by the Re-
ception classes, and continues to play a central and vital role in the curriculum for our children in Years 1 and 2. Being physically
active supports the development of the brain, as well as strengthening muscles and developing both gross and fine motor co-
ordination. The children in Pre-Prep enjoy a wealth of physical activity every day. The use of tools and equipment, from pencils
and scissors, to hoops, beanbags and quoits, help to strengthen hand-eye co-ordination and fine motor skills (essential pre-
requisites for writing!). Whilst the use of larger equipment in P.E, Games and Dance lessons, aids balance, develops spatial aware-
ness and builds core strength. Over the last couple of weeks, it has been a joy to watch the Year 2 children return, puffing and
panting back from their P.E. lessons, pink cheeked and wide-eyed with excitement – Mr Barnard has been refining their badmin-
ton skills and, with matches in full swing, I hear that even Mr Clarke could not resist shrugging off his suit jacket and grabbing a
racquet to join in with the fun!
It is always a pleasure to welcome visiting speakers into the Pre-Prep Department. Listening to different adults talk with passion
and interest about their areas of expertise is so enlightening for the children. Following on from a visit from Elsa’s mummy, who
is a vet, the Reception children welcomed Mr Swinfen this week, who gave a fascinating talk all about food and farming. Armed
with a box of Weetabix and packets of different grains, George’s daddy talked about the oats, beans, barley and rape seed
that he grows on his farm and where it is sent to. He even told the children all
about his 500 ewes that are about to give birth to possibly around 1,000 lambs
- oh how the children wished he had had all of those tucked under his arm
along with the Weetabix! As always, a huge thank you to both Mrs Miles and
Mr Swinfen for so kindly giving up their
time and for answering all the children’s
questions with unwavering enthusiasm.
Finally, a reminder that we are holding a
‘Pre-Prep Book Viewing Afternoon’ next
Thursday 11th February, between 3.00-5.00
pm. I know the children will take great
delight in flicking through the pages of
their books, proudly talking you through all
the activities they have completed. The
children’s work will, of course, also be
available to view during our Parent/
Teacher Consultations on Tuesday 8th and
Thursday 10th of March.

Congratulations to Leo Smith (2L) who has
been awarded a medal for his dedication,
skill and commitment in Karate.
Toys Needed Have you recently had a post-Christmas de-clutter?
Our Reception classes never tire of new toys, games and dressing up clothes, and will happily re-home any unwanted items.
From Playmobil, Lego and cars, to jigsaws and role-play equipment, all will be put to good use.
Thank you, any donations are most appreciated.
