For most scholarships, reference letters can still be submitted in the four days that follow the closing date.

Level: 2nd Year Undergraduate

Brian Perry Charitable Trust Undergraduate Scholarship in Science & Engineering

These highly competitive Scholarships are awarded to students wishing to commence study at Oxford University in September/October 2019.

Applicants must:

at the closing date for applications in the year of application be a citizen of New Zealand or hold a New Zealand Permanent Resident visa.

at the closing date for applications in the year of application have spent at least five of the previous ten years in New Zealand.

by the time of entry to Oxford have graduated with an undergraduate degree.

Woolf Fisher Trust Scholarship (UNZ)

These highly competitive Scholarships are awarded to students wishing to commence a PhD at the University of Cambridge in September/October 2019. These Scholarships are open to New Zealand citizens who are under thirty as at 31 December 2018, attended a New Zealand secondary school for at least two years, and will soon gain, or have already graduated with, a first-class honours degree from a New Zealand university.

Philip Neill Memorial Prize in Music

Closing date: 1 July 2018

Level: Undergraduate / Graduate / Postgraduate

The late Philip Neill was a medical student of the University of Otago, who died in 1943. The prize is awarded annually for excellence in original composition and is valued at $1500. The award is open to all past and present students of a university in New Zealand. The topic for 2018 is to compose a piece for pianos, 4 hands. You must submit a score as well as a MIDI recording of the work. The work must be at least six minutes and not more than eighteen minutes in duration.

PhD Scholarship for Behavioral Research in Scent-detection

Closing date: 15 July 2018

Level: Graduate / Postgraduate Applications are invited for a PhD scholarship opportunity for canine scent-detection research in the Behaviour Analysis programme at the University of Waikato. This project is part of a larger project investigating animal- and machine-based volatile detection and classification for disease diagnostics, with a current focus on the detection of lung cancer. Vice-Chancellor’s Adult Learners’ Awards

The Vice Chancellor’s Adult Learners’ Awards were first awarded in 2001. The Awards encourage more adults to access learning opportunities and celebrates the efforts, achievements and contributions of adult learners.

New Zealand Institute of Forestry (NZIF) Foundation Awards and Scholarships

Closing date: 20 June 2018 Level: Undergraduate / Graduate / Postgraduate Applications are invited for the awards and scholarships offered by the NZIF Foundation for 2018. With the addition of The New Zealand Redwood Company Scholarship and the Invercargill City Forests Awards this year, the total value of awards offered is $44,500. While the awards are all associated with forestry, this is broadly defined to include all those activities involved in the management and use of forests and their products. All forests in New Zealand, whatever their purpose, are encompassed in the definition as are all the products and environmental services that arise from forests.

Craig Norgate Scholarships

We are honouring the memory of Craig Norgate, who was an inspirational business leader, with pride, passion and drive for the profession with two Scholarship opportunities. Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, are honouring the memory of a Taranaki son and one of the country’s most inspirational business leaders, Craig Norgate. The Craig Norgate Taranaki Memorial Scholarship and the Craig Norgate New Zealand Memorial Scholarship will help support one young person in Taranaki and one young person in New Zealand each year as they set out on their career as a Chartered Accountant (CA). The Banking and Financial Services Law Association (BFSLA) Research Prize Closing date: 6 July 2018 Level: Undergraduate / Postgraduate This BFSLA offers prizes each year for research essays on important issues of current banking and financial services law and practice which are relevant to Australia and/or New Zealand. The amounts of the prizes may

be reset each year. In 2017 the Association offers a prize pool of AUD$12,000. The Banking and Financial Services Law Association (BFSLA) Scholarship Closing date: 6 July 2018 Level: Postgraduate This Scholarship is open to competition between graduates in any discipline who are permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand and who wish to pursue advanced postgraduate study in the law relating to banking or financial services or a related field at an approved university anywhere in the world. Gemini Trust Disability Scholarship Closing date: TBA Level: Undergraduate This Scholarship is open to applications from undergraduate students with physical disabilities who have completed at least one year of University study, who whose home is in the Waikato, King Country or Coromandel regions. The Scholarship shall have a value of up to $10,000, and shall be tenable for one year. The selection criteria will be based on academic merit and individual physical disability needs faced by the applicants. The successful applicant(s) may be intending to study full-time and must be either a New Zealand citizen or be a permanent resident of New Zealand. Waikato Regional Council and Waikato-Tainui – Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu Scholarship NEW closing date: 15 July 2018 Level: Undergraduate (up to, and including, Honours year) This Scholarship was established in 1991 to mark the 25th anniversary of the accession of Te Arikinui, Dame Te Atairangikaahu, to pay tribute to her leadership of the Māori people and appropriately ensure the further education of the Māori people in the Waikato region, at the University of Waikato. The Scholarship is open to application by Māori students whose family is resident within the Waikato Regional Council’s operational boundaries http://www.waikatoregion.govt.nz/Council/About-us/. Applicants will be enrolled full-time, at undergraduate level (up to, and including, honours level), at the University of Waikato. Preference may be given to candidates enrolled in the resource management or environmental fields. The Selection Panel will consider candidates’ academic merit, Knowledge and application of the Kīngitanga, community involvement (particularly in environmental enhancement activities), and relevance of study. One-year Scholarships worth up to $2,000, $3,000, or $4,000 (depending on the level of study) will normally be awarded. Sir William Gallagher Cyber Security Scholarship Closing date: TBC Level: Graduate The Sir William Gallagher Cyber Security Scholarship supports academically talented students studying towards a Master of Cyber Security qualification at the University of Waikato. Applicants must be enrolled in a Master of Cyber Security and be a citizen or permanent resident of NZ. The value of the scholarship is NZ$25,000 for students undertaking a 180 point MCS and NZ$20,000 for a 120 point MCS.

New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS) Closing date: not offered for 2018

Fulbright-Wallace Arts Trust Awards Closing date: 26 July 2018 Level: Postgraduate / Academics The Fulbright-Wallace Arts Trust Award is for an outstanding mid-career or senior New Zealand visual artist to undertake a ten week residency at Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, California. One award, valued in excess of US$24,000, is offered each year. To be eligible, you must:

Have a suitable background in the visual arts. The minimum qualification is normally a Baccalaureate (Bachelor's) degree, or the equivalent artistic or professional achievement;

Demonstrate professionalism and the ability to be a cultural ambassador for New Zealand;

Have a specific project on which you propose to work on during the award;

NZ-China Scholarships

Closing date: 27 July 2018 Level: Graduate The Confucius Institute in Auckland in cooperation with China’s Scholarship Council (Ministry of Education) facilitates the selection of up to 10 scholarships for advanced Chinese language study in China each year. Canadian Studies Awards Closing dates vary The Canadian Studies Program funds research and teaching in Canadian studies. The term ‘Canadian studies’ is defined as research in the humanities or social sciences which aims at a better understanding of Canadian society and or culture. Purely scientific subjects and proposals that focus exclusively on technological or methodological issues are not eligible. Awards include the following:

ICCS Graduate Students Scholarship Closing date: 30 September The International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) offers up to ten grants worldwide to masters and doctoral candidates to undertake thesis-related research on Canada at a Canadian university for 4-6 weeks.

Canadian Studies Internships Teaching or research internships (assistantships) of 1-3 months duration at a Canadian or foreign university with a Canadian Studies Program. Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree on a topic primarily related to Canada, and not be employed in a full-time university teaching position.

International Research Linkages (IRL) This programme aims to promote and facilitate international collaborative research between research teams from Canada and (one or more) countries where Canadian Studies are represented.

The Canada-Asia-Pacific Award in Canadian Studies (CAPA) Aimed at promoting the understanding of bilateral and multilateral relations between Canada and the Asia-Pacific, this award assists scholars in higher education institutions or research and policy planning institutes in the Asia-Pacific region to undertake short-term research, including collaborative research.

ACSANZ Postgraduate Travel Award Closing date: 30 September Up to five grants are awarded each year to postgraduate students for a short research trip to Canada. Research must be related to the student’s thesis topic and in Canadian Studies.

ICCS Canadian Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship Closing date: 30 September This programme enables Canadian and foreign academics who have completed a doctoral thesis on a topic primarily related to Canada to visit a Canadian or foreign university with a Canadian Studies program for a teaching or research fellowship. Fellowships are for a minimum of one month and a maximum of three months. Applicants must not be employed in a full-time university teaching position and must agree not to accept honoraria or salary during their fellowships. The grant will be C$2,500 per month plus the cost a return airline ticket.

ICCS Best Doctoral Thesis in Canadian Studies Closing date: 30 September This ICCS Award is designed to recognize and promote each year an outstanding PhD thesis on a Canadian topic.

LEARN Fellowships No set closing date: The Livestock Emissions & Abatement Research Network (LEARN) is an international research network focused upon improving the understanding of greenhouse gas emissions from livestock agriculture. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry offers up to nine New Zealand LEARN Fellowships per annum for scientists or technicians from developing countries to work in New Zealand in the area of Livestock Emissions Research. The objectives of the network are to improve the quantification of non-CO2 greenhouse gas emissions from animal agriculture at all scales, and to facilitate the development of cost effective and practical greenhouse gas mitigation solutions. There are two separate categories available. These are LEARN Work Trainee Awards (tenure up to six months) and LEARN Postdoctoral Fellowships (tenure up to twelve months). There is no set application close date for the Fellowships, instead they are dealt with on a case by case basis by MAF's advisory panel. It is expected that the majority of applications/nominations will be from/for individuals who have already established links with researchers at the NZ host institution/organisation. New Zealand Defence Force Scholarship Schemes Levels: School Leavers / Undergraduate / Graduate / Postgraduate The New Zealand Defence Force offers four tertiary scholarship schemes across the three services to Engineering students. The majors in which the NZDF is likely to provide sponsorship are: Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Software, Materials, aeronautical Engineering and Mechatronics, however other majors will be considered by the individual services. TeachNZ Scholarships Closing dates vary Levels: School Leavers / Undergraduate / Graduate / Postgraduate TeachNZ Scholarships are targeted at areas of priority for teacher supply, in order to meet increasing demand for teachers in some areas over the next ten years. TeachNZ states that the following areas have been identified: early childhood teachers, Māori-medium teachers, secondary teachers of specific subjects, and teachers in rural areas.
