Dear Panther Run Students, Parents, Staff & Community, I am truly fortunate as a principal to be able to work with so many wonderful families, children, and staff members at Panther Run Elementary School. We have accomplished so much this year both in person and virtually! We have established a true feeling of teamwork and family. I am so proud of all of our students and their individual success and leadership in completing this school year. Our school is not just a building. Our school is not just a group of classrooms with children in them. Our school is not just reading, writing and arithmetic. Our “SCHOOL” is the interaction of hundreds of different people with a common focus...educating children to their highest level of ability. But the term “education” is not just learning content, facts and processes, but how to be good, caring people, who help others and are successful in life. Panther Run Elementary School is the foundation of great things and the development of a proud future generation! Everyone involved in our school gets the pleasure to work on projects to insure students are successful in life. Teachers and staff operate the daily tasks and deliver the instruction in a myriad of different subjects ranging from reading to the arts to developing good character – PIF-WIAMAD: “Pay It Forward!” & “Who I Am Makes A Difference!” Parents who give so much support to the school get to see their efforts from volunteerism blossom into many programs and services available to students, making their activities more interesting, motivating and exciting. Many schools cannot boast of the kind of multi-dimensional support that we enjoy at Panther Run. Some schools raise sums of money, but many do not translate that effort into real benefits for students or help others as we do. Businesses partners get to participate in the creation of a future workforce by being involved at our school. Some accomplish this by donating funds to us. Others get directly involved by offering time and personnel to work directly with our students and staff. Our success has come because of the fantastic efforts and dedication of so many people. An eager staff, that works hard and is committed to the concept of SCHOOL described above and make Panther Run a “HOME” and a “HUB” of the community. The children who attend here continue to progress at a high level. They hold their heads high and proud because they know, as we do, children will always succeed and grow at our school! Summer learning traditions

Your child has spent the entire school year learning new things. Help him hang onto that knowledge, and learn even more, by starting summer traditions like these.

STEM Olympics

Boost your youngster’s STEM skills with a series of household engineering competitions. For the first contest, each person could build a catapult with craft sticks and rubber bands. See whose catapult can launch a ball the farthest. Next, maybe family members will compete to engineer a boat that carries the most pennies without sinking.

Family celebrations

Have your child use math to plan special events, such as an Independence Day cookout. Give him a budget, and let him look through grocery and dollar store flyers for the best prices on ingredients and supplies. He should list items and prices, and add up the total. Next, perhaps he’ll host a National Ice Cream Day party on July 21 or a back-to-school celebration the last weekend of summer break.

Reading pals

For a fun way to stay in touch—and practice reading—help your youngster find a relative to be his reading pal. Maybe he and his grandfather will take turns reading chapters of a novel via video chat. Or record a video of your youngster reading a book to send to a younger cousin. The little one can do the same to show her big cousin how she’s learning to read.

Short Notes

Being neighborly. Show your child how neighbors can depend on each other. If a package is delivered on a rainy day and the family isn’t home, she could write a note saying she’s holding it for them. Or if someone leaves headlights on, knock on their door together to let the person know.

Everyday research. Sharpen your youngster’s research skills by challenging him to use them for practical purposes. Say he wants a pet or wonders why he needs to go to bed on time. Ask him to look into what being a pet owner would require or how sleep affects kids.
