Message from the Principal Hi Everyone, What a terrific day was had at Montrose PS last Wednesday! Olympic Day was celebrated in style and our determination shone through to overcome lousy weather. Well done to Miss Knell for a great, flexible program. Because the weather was threatening the children moved straight into the tabloid sports. Many thanks to the team of parents who gave their time to oversee the activities. It was heart warming to be able to watch the interaction within each team. A mixture of kids from prep through to grade 6, every single team demonstrated care, support and encouragement between members. A number of parents commented on this, and though it is what is expected, it is quite reaffirming to see it demonstrated again and again in trying conditions. Though the weather provided short sessions of fine rain, all battled on through so that all activities were completed by recess. The whole school met in the hall where each class demonstrated their knowledge of its focus country before the rest of the school. Classes were judged on interesting knowledge, presentation and creativity. I learned that fortune cookies were first created in Japan and that New Zealand produces more medals per capita than any other Olympic country. 3WA received a commendation for its research prowess whilst 6S received the highest praise for its energetic take on what it is to be English. The parade showcased parents’ and children’s ingenuity and we thank you for supporting your child in participating in the event. Premier’s reading challenge reminder!!!! How is the Premier’s Reading Challenge going? Did you know you have less than a month to finish? We will be finishing the reading challenge on the 1 September, so if you could log your books onto www.education.vic.gov.au/prc, and let your child’s teacher know when you are finished, that would be wonderful! Your child’s username will be their first and surnames (all lower case) and their password will be montrose1. Lets see how many of us can complete the challenge! There will be random prizes drawn at assembly in Term 4 for students who have completed the challenge. Happy reading Jodie Doekes

SCIENCE NIGHT - Tuesday August 21st

The family science night is on again We will have The Astronomy Society of Victoria with their telescopes on the oval again,

weather permitting; there will also be activities run by teachers in some of the portables on Tuesday August 21st from 7.00pm. It all starts in the hall with a talk and pictures from ASV. There is a charge this year unfortunately - $4 per person which can be given to me or one of my helpers on the night. Bring along a torch with red cellophane over the light so you can walk safely to the oval without interfering with the light for viewing the stars. Can

parents please let me know via the tear-off slip below if they intend coming to our night of viewing and fun, along with likely numbers.
