    This competition is open to students currently enrolled at any of the followingschools:

    Chief Julius School, Fort McPhersonMoose Kerr School , Aklavik

    East Three Secondary School, Inuvik

    Chief Paul Niditchie School, Tsiigehtchic:Grades 7 9 Students

    Teams

    This is a team competition for Chief Julius School, East Three Secondary Scho

    Kerr School.

    All entries should be submitted on behalf of at least 2 students (maximum 3 stteam), one of which must have attended the National Conference on IndigenoGovernment.

    Teams may consist of non-Gwichin students.

    Teams may work with their teacher (s) or the chaperones who attended the Seconference for additional guidance.

    Grades 7 9 Students from Chief Paul Niditchie School in Tsiigehtchic will be doposter as part of their competition, with help from their Principal/Teacher on the p

    Written Component

    The first component will be a written response, like an essay or newspapearticle, that explores ideas related to Self-Government and that werediscussed at the Self-Government conference.

    Audio Podcasts and presentations can be found at www.gwichin2013.com

    The minimum number of words for each submission should be 500.

    You can include a cover page, photos, maps, audio and/or video to suppoyour essay.

    experienced at the Self-Government conference. Use the following

    questions as a guide.

    Questions to consider:

    Why is achieving Self-Government important?

    How does Self-Government relate to your language, culture and traditio

    What does Self-Government mean for the Youth and how will we be inv

    in future Aboriginal Self-Government?

    What will we need to be involved in Self-Government in the future?

    What kinds of jobs do you think will be part of Self-Government and howwe be preparing now to take on these jobs?

    Work Plan/Project

    The work plan should include a brief description of

    the event, its purpose and how it will take place.

    There should also be a budget and schedulerelated to preparatory work (how much will eachelement cost? Who will do what?)

    How will the project be documented? Video, Audio,Powerpoint? Website?

    Judges Criteria for High School Entries from Aklavik, Inuvik and Fort

    McPherson:

    The winning entries will be judged as a package, meaning both the merits of the essay aplan/ project proposal will be considered.

    The entries will be judged in terms of their presentation format, their imagination and thouand their ability to further the spirit of Self-Government among the youth.

    Judges Criteria for Junior High School Entries from Tsiigehtchic:

    The winning entries will be judged as a package, meaning both the merits of the poster aplan/ project proposal will be considered.

    The entries will be judged in terms of their presentation format, their imagination and thouand their ability to further the spirit of Self-Government among the youth.

    Deadline:All entries are due by 5:00 pm, Friday, November 29, 2013. Entries caemailed to [email protected]. The judging panel will be made up of the memthe Self Government Negotiation Team.

    1st Prize: IPad Mini w/Wi-Fi & Cellular for each winning student

    An in-kind award of $1500 to the school producing the winning team $1500 towards proposed event

    2nd Prize: IPad Mini w/Wi-Fi & Cellular for each winning student An in-kind award of $1000 to the school producing the winning team

    3rd Prize One hundred dollar gift certificates to the Apple store for each winning student An in-kind award of $500 to the school producing the winning team
