Communication
Students will be introduced (if they haven’t already) to an on-line tool called Career Cruising. On Career Cruising students will be able to take a multitude of inventories to assess their interests, skills, and learning styles; explore post-secondary options such as careers and schools (state and nation wide); and create a portfolio of information for the user, parents, and staff to use as a guide for their academic and career planning.
As a parent, you are an important part of the ACP process! School is not the only place to learn about careers, home and in the community is really where this whole process starts. Here are some recommendations for how to get the ball rolling:
1) Visit the Career Cruising Website (you will be receiving everything you need SOON to access this information.
2) Talk about jobs and careers with your students. Help them explore possibilities by exploring new places.
3) Hobbies, interests, school subjects, etc., can all be indicators of what types of careers your student may excel in.
4) Come in for Freshmen Orientation and Individual Planning Conferences (Grades 10 &11) with your school counselor.
5) Be involved! Academic and Career Planning is for ALL students! Many of the following artifacts will be completed at school and may vary by grade. This table is designed to help parents know what to look for in regards to their student’s ACP process.

Government and Public Administration
Government affects Americans in countless ways. In a democratic society, government is the means of expressing the public will. This includes a variety of activities. In fact, virtually every occupation can be found within government. There are, however, some activities that are unique to government. The federal government defends us from foreign aggression; represents American interests abroad; deliberates, passes, and enforces laws; and administers many different programs. State and local governments pass laws or ordinances and provide vital services to constituents. There are many opportunities in government in every career area. The Government and Public Administration Career Cluster focuses on those careers that are unique to government and not contained in another Career Cluster.
