ACCoMMoDAtioNIf travelling to our Shuttleworth College Campus is difficult for you, we may be able to offer you a place in our halls of residence based on site. You’ll get your own single study bedroom plus access to a modern common room complete with kitchen facilities, comfy chairs,

sofas and TV.

guarantee you a job – a range of extra skills and abilities are required to increase your chances of gaining and

keeping work. Put simply, improving your employability means making you more

31 August 2014, the tuition fees and any exam registration fees for all of the study programmes in this prospectus are FREE. If you’re aged 19 or above, you will normally have to pay a fee – please check online at www.bedford.ac.uk/finance

associated with study programmes at our College – tuition and exam

fees, and additional costs.

ADDitioNAl CoStSFor some of our study programmes,

you may have to pay for certain things you need in order to successfully study

your subject. These can include specialist textbooks, uniforms or equipment, as well as trips and visits that boost your

understanding of your subject. You can find out if there are any additional costs

ARMy Fe bURSARy SCheMe (FebS)

If you’re considering a career in the Army you could qualify for a £1,000 bursary while you study at College. Once your study programme is complete you’ll also receive another £1,000 after completing initial training with the Army.

ChilDCARe SUPPoRt

If you’re a parent aged 16 to 19, the government's Care to Learn scheme could pay up to £160 per child per week towards your childcare and travel costs while you're learning.

CoURSe CoStS bURSARy

You may have to pay additional costs for books, materials, equipment or clothing required by your study programme. If these costs could cause you financial difficulty we offer discretionary bursaries to help with up to 90% of the cost, subject to a household income of £30,000 or less.

DiSCRetioNARy hARDShiP bURSARy

In cases of exceptional financial hardship we may also be able to provide support of up to an additional £100 per term on top of support you may already be receiving, subject to a household income of £16,190 or less.

ShUttlewoRthReSiDeNtiAlbURSARy

This bursary is offered only to students on study programmes at Shuttleworth College – if you need help with accommodation costs for our halls of residence, you may qualify for financial support. Please note: priority is given to students who live the furthest away and/or those with poor or no transport links. Visit www.shuttleworth.ac.uk/accommodation for more information.

tRAvelbURSARy

This is a bursary worth £450 per year that aims to help with the costs of travelling to College. If you are aged under 19, intending to study one of the study programmes in this prospectus, live more than three miles away from the College site you are studying at and do not receive any help from your local authority, we may be able to offer you support. vUlNeRAble leARNeR bURSARy

Young people in care, care leavers, young people receiving income support and disabled young people receiving both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance are eligible to receive a guaranteed bursary of up to £1,200 a year.

By train…Bedford’s mainline station is just over a

10 minute walk from both our Cauldwell Street and BROOKS locations, with the smaller Bedford St Johns station only

Designed to develop your knowledge and skills in a specific job, NVQs cover the vast

majority of business sectors and don’t involve exams – you’ll be assessed through

your practical work in the College’s realistic working environments

employability sKillsAs part of your study programme you’ll also receive training in the extra skills employers look for to help make you

more employable, from written and verbal communication skills to teamworking

bteCsThese are qualifications designed to link closely with industry that are recognised

by universities and employers as an alternative to studying A-Levels, but still attract UCAS points. They allow you to demonstrate your knowledge and skills

You will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of materials, including glass, wood, metal, ceramics and plastics. Mixed media and non-traditional approaches and techniques will be encouraged, alongside research as a basis for design development, informed by drawings and sketchbook work.

The programme will offer opportunities to trial for regional and international teams, as well as progression into senior football.
