5 December 2014 Good morning, Firstly, I would like to start by saying a huge thank you for all the support at the Christmas Fayre last Saturday. The school community really pulled together to put on a great event where a huge amount of money was raised (I won't spoil the PTA's thunder at this point!) The event was well run and I was hugely thankful for people literally fighng me for the broom and hoover at the end of the day! This week on Saturday, we will be holding our Christmas Tree Sale in the main school car park. Please come and join us for some fesve fun and refreshments between 10am and 1pm. I look forward to catching up with you there and seeing more of our local com- munity. The Christmas season is definitely upon us and the school has been a hive of acvity in preparing for the producons next week and displays around the school really do bright- en the school up. The parent online survey is now closed - my thanks to those of you who contributed to it. Over the coming weeks I shall address some of the issues raised as points for improve- ment. One of the points raised was - any news of the new build? As you will be aware, the school was successful in bidding for funding from the EFA for a complete rebuild and is part of the Priority Schools Building Programme. We had a lot of engagement from the EFA last term and were chosen as the lead school in a batch to be delivered in the south- east. The EFA (Educaon Funding Agency) is the client in the new build and not the school and as such is in charge of procurement. The contractors from the government approved list did not tender for the project and hence the delay whilst the EFA seek alter- nave contractors. The EFA have confirmed that the build will go ahead (in what form we do not know) and as yet we do not have dates. When we have news we will let you know. Next week we will be holding our producons and look forward to welcoming you into the school. Please remember to bring ckets with you. Finally a well done and thank you to the children, staff and volunteers who supported the children at St John’s Church on Tuesday evening. This me of year is so busy with everything going on, so we do appreciate all the help and support we can get. Wishing you a good weekend. Kathryn Krynicki Headteacher School Newsletter

forget to return your ‘candle’ collecting boxes - either to the service

or to the school office. Thank you.

The School Council choose charities to support during the year.

This term’s charity is Save the Children and we are supporting them by

taking part in Christmas Jumper Day on Tuesday 17th.

For a suggested donation of £1 each, children are invited to wear a Christmas jumper instead of school uni-

form - jeans/sports trousers/leggings are acceptable to wear with it.

It will be a party atmosphere as everyone will be in their Christmas jumpers for our school Christmas lunch,

with extra treats kindly supplied by the PTA.

Our Romans and Celts day

Romans

On our romans and Celts day the romans made small clay pots and tile mosaics. We made Ro-

man shields. We wore Romans clothes called togas and we did Roman leaflets. We made hats

with leafs on them to go to battle. They were called Laurel leaf crowns.

We are Romans we can fight we’re going to war with the Celts tonight!

Celts

On Romans and Celts day the Celts made torcs to go round their necks in battle. We made

Celtic shields. We wove blankets on a loom like the Celts did to make their clothes. We wore

clothes called tunics. We made Celtic, string print patterns using ink. At the end we had our

face painted.

We had a battle first the Celts won and at the end the Romans won.

By Caitlin Maytham and Tamsin Hurles, Elm Class, Year 3.

A big thank you to all who helped and attended the Fair. In particular the PTA would like

to thank the reps and Yr 3 parents who predominantly organised the event, Sara Hodges,

Ann-Marie Peasey, Jo Attrill and Jacqui Moller-Butcher for all their hard work.

Well done to all on the cake bake - we made £354.44.

This year the PTA have agreed to fund so far: reading roundabout, a foreign languages

learning platform, brass instrument lessons, children’s Christmas party events, and along

with the Governors’ Fund we will jointly fund an additional temporary building to allow

children to work in small groups out of the classrooms.

As Christmas approaches we wish you all a happy December and look forward to seeing

as many of you as possible at our Christmas tree sale on Saturday, 10am to 1pm.
