2.3LearningObjectivesandContentGREE113isthesecondpartofathree‐partintroductiontoancientGreek.Itstresseslearningthevocabulary,morphology,grammar,andsyntaxofancientGreek,andaimstoenablestudentstoreadancientGreekproseandpoetrywiththeaidofadictionaryandgrammarasquicklyaspossible.Studentswhosuccessfulcompletethiscourseshould:—
1. Havelearnedthebasic,vocabulary,morphologyandgrammarandAncientGreek.2. Beabletoreadelementarytextswiththeaidofadictionaryandgrammar.3. HavetheabilitytoapplylinguisticconceptsderivedfromthestudyofancientGreektoa

4.2AimsofAssessmentAssessmentinGREE113isdesignedtodeveloplearningofthefollowingknowledgeandskills:—
1. Long‐termretentionofancientGreekvocabulary,grammarandsyntax.2. Understandingofgrammaticalandsyntacticalconceptsandtheirapplicationtoancient
Greek.3. AbilitytoreadancientGreek,usingstrategiesfordecodingthemorphology,grammar,
andsyntaxofthelanguage,andusingcontextasaguidetounderstanding.Quizzesassessknowledgeandskillsgainedovertheshort‐termandhelptoidentifyareasforfurtherimprovement.Themidtermtestsprogressoverthemedium‐termandstressesknowledgeofmorphology,grammar,andabilitytotranslatefromGreektoEnglish.Thetake‐homeassignmentisanexercisethatallowsstudentstoapplytheskillstheyhavedevelopedinthiscoursetothetranslationofanancientGreektext.Thefinalexamtestsknowledgeandskillsgainedovertheentirecourse.
4.5ExtensionsandPenaltiesforEssaysExtensions,forheathreasonssupportedbyamedicalcertificateorforsomeothernecessaryanddemonstrablereason,mustbeappliedforfromthecoursecoordinatorinadvanceoftheduedate.Extensionswillnotbegrantedifappliedforontheduedateorlater,exceptincaseofanunexpectedmedicalemergency,bereavement,orsomeothercatastrophe.Anassignmentsubmittedaftertheduedatewillincurapenaltyof5marksoutof100perworkday.
4.6MandatoryCourseRequirementsInordertopassGREE113eachstudentmust:

4.7ClassRepresentativeAclassrepresentativewillbeelectedinthefirstclass.Thatperson’snameandcontactdetailswillbeavailabletoVUWSA,theCourseCoordinator,andtheclass.TheclassrepresentativeprovidesacommunicationchanneltoliaisewiththeCourseCoordinatoronbehalfofstudents.
