Nigel Chan Qian Wei was at Maldives for his Overseas IIP. He interned at Four Seasons Resort and was part of its various departments such as Asian Kitchen, Cold Kitchen, Italian Fine Dining and the Butchery.

Our trips focus on both international competitions and service learning, all of which will provide you with incredible opportunities to learn from new people, cultures and experiences overseas. To date, SOH students have travelled to Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Nepal, Russia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.

international learning experience

The IIP gave me the invaluable chance to feel what it is like to work away from home and family. It was not as difficult as I had

expected. On the contrary, it taught me to be independent. I not only developed new skills

but also forged my own network in the industry and made friends from all around the world. These connections have opened up plenty of

opportunities. The IIP really opened my eyes — it was an experience I would not exchange for

the world.

The WorldSkills Kazan 2019 competition was tough as there were many different nations competing and many competitors were more experienced than me. However, the training I received from DRCO gave me confidence in my creativity, and with the support of my coaches, we did well. It was a special experience which not many people

get. That, plus everything I’ve learnt in the DRCO, is bound to serve me well in the future.
