ELEN CRAMM, one of the mostsuccessful composers of music for
beginners, is a well known New-England musician. Her musicalability, inherited from her father, was manifested at an early age.
WTien a very small girl. Miss Cramm began thestudy of singing. It was not long, however, before she specialized in piano playing. In this branch, as wellas in organ playing, she had the advantage of studying with several excellent teachers. Miss Cramm taughtmusic privately and also at the Montpelier, Vermont, Seminary, and established a school of music in Haverhill,Mass., her home city.
The first compositions of Miss Cramm's to attract public notice were published in 1905. Since thattime she has written several volumes of piano music. That these may be classed among the best sellers isevidenced by the fact that the demand for her music is not merely confined to this country-, but reaches to suchfar off lands as China and Japan. But let Miss Cramm speak for herself :
"I have numerous interests beside that of music; belong to se\'eral clubs, musical and social, of w-hich I haveat different times been president, director, speaker, etc.; am not now actively engaged in teaching, but do moreor less coaching and am director of music at St. John's Episcopal Church. My house is a social and musical center.
"My lo\e of children makes my work a pleasure. I am a great lo\er of Nature, and during the grow-ingseason spend two or three hours a day culti\ating flowers, vegetables and fruits about my place; and then, having in my pedigree many generations of old New England housewives, I can, and can, andean—enoughfor three families like my own, which includes only an old housekeeper which I inherited."
Here are other fascinating collections by Helen Cramm

This is the best material imaginable withtvhich to Hart young pupils on duet playing. The music is very easy, the melody alternatesfrom primo to secondo, and the jolly littlerhymes tvhich accompany every piece give itadded interest.

These melodious piano numbers may be
sung also, since tvords are joined to each
piece. They are most tuneful, and, like
everything Miss Cramm writes, "lie well"under the finger i.

The Best Method for Beginners
NORRIS'FUNDAMENTALPIANO METHOD
A New and Thorough Course forBeginners on the Pianoforte by
ALBERT LOCKE NORRISnet 1.00
THISmethod has been written primarily to make easier the task of the young pupil, so
that he may be assisted at home in, at least, the mental preparation of his first lessons. At the same time, it actually simplifies the work of the teacher, especially with beginners,as each of four lessons is clearly outlined with special reference to "mental" preparation.
The first part of this method consists entirely of elementary work; muscular relaxation, technical and mental application. The first, and most important steps are so provided forthat their mastery is made easily possible. Care has been taken in the selection of suitablestudy material and pieces, so as to incite the pupil's interest and to form his musical taste.
OPINIONS OF PROMINENT EDUCATORSFANNIE BLOOMFIELD ZEISLER. 1 am glad to jay thatI think tht Norris Fundamtntal Piano Method contains manygood tkingj, and, if used by a thoroughly competent uaehtr, unil
surely be lulpjul to a serious student.
GEORGE COLEMAN COW, Fassar Colleie: The NorrisFundamental Piano Method covers the ground admirably. Every-thing is presented extremely well and there is not a toord too much. This opinion is also voiced by the piano teachers in my department. What we alt found especially satisfactory is the author's insistenceupon establishing at the outset the right finger and arm controL Weregard it as a serious mistake to delay relaxation and concentra-tion exercises until bad habits have been formed. Mr. Norrishas very satisfactorily solved the problem of combining such workwith musical interest.
CLARENCE G. HAMILTON, Wellesley College: I find theNorris Fundamental Piano Method a very useful and sensible
course of instruction. I am especially impressed with the attentionpaid to accurate phrasing and work with the pedal, both of whichfactors are, as they should be, emphasized from the beginning.
CONSTANTIN PON STERNBERG, Philadelphia: The Fun-damental Piano Method by Albert Locke Norrts deserves greatpraise. It is thoroughly modern in spirit and method; the littleexercises and studies as well as the pieces are carefully prepared, and, outside of the technical, it takes due cognizance of the menUUside of the child's study of music.
A. T. SMITH, EvansviUe (Ind.) Conservatory of Music: Mr.Norris has presented a Fundamental Method, or instruction book,to meet the present day requirements. I take great pleasure in
recommending the work unreservedly. It is concise, definite and
practical, and strictly in accordance with the principles used in
playing by so many of the world's best players.

NORRIS' GRADED COURSEOF PIANO STUDIES
Based on, and to be used in conjunction with
Norris^ Fundamental Piano MethodIn three grades, -price, each, net .75
THE movement to standardize piano teaching is sweeping the country. Mr. Norris con-tends that standardization should divide the pupil's work into grades and establishdefinitely the ground each one is to cover. With this end in view, he has composed and
compiled the "Graded Course of Piano Studies," and it is the aim of this work to make thetheoretical and technical education go hand in hand. Its chief purpose, while forming atechnical foundation, is to combine with technical knowledge many really necessary things ofa theoretical character that often remain enigmas to even those far advanced in piano technic.
