Canisteo- Greenwood High School sent 2 teams to compete in the 36th Annual Chem Bowl held at Corning Community College on May 6, 2011. The competition is sponsored by Corning Incorporated, Global Tungsten & Powers Corp. , Guthrie Health, and Corning Community College.

Team 1 from Canisteo -Greenwood consisted of Alex Merry, Ryan Tracy, Arielle Mullen, and Chelsey Herbstritt. Team 2 included Andrew King, Alli Chapin, Jon Chapin, and Laura Pereira-Sanchez. Both teams did extremely well in the competition but only 1 team from each school is able to move onto the final round.

This yearʼs final 4 teams were from Canisteo-Greenwood, Corning-Painted Post West, Horseheads, and Southside. The Chem Bowl team from Canisteo-Greenwood (Andrew King, Alli Chapin, Jon Chapin, and Laura Sanchez) placed 3rd in the final round at the Chem Bowl held at CCC on May 24, 2011. The team suffered its only loss to the first place team from Corning West. The school received a check for $250.00 for their third place finish.

Students in Mrs. Brottʼs third grade at Canisteo-Greenwood have been studying Freedom and “What it means to be free”. Freedom of expression was emphasized throughout the unit. Students learned how mural artist used art in public forums to send messages. Students were asked to design a mural using ideas that express the freedom of living in their village of Canisteo. Students than voted on five murals to make with chalk in front of their school. They were filled with proud as they created the murals representing their town.

Mrs. Brottʼs 3rd grade class has been on a roll. With their school principal challenging them on their Math multiplication factʼs, she lost the challenge with all of the kids mastering them by June 1st. She had lunch with them in the courtyard and also provided ice cream for them for their work well done.
