COMPONENT I: COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT (CNA)

DATA REVIEWED & ANALYZED:

Based on your schools NSPF results, identify what additional data have been reviewed and analyzed in development of the SPP.

School Data For General Education Including FRL English Language Learner (ELL) Data Special Education Data

Nevada School Performance Framework (NSPF) Teacher/Administrator Observation Data Availability of Curriculum for IEP StudentsStatewide Assessments Nevada School Performance Framework (NSPF) Availability of Curriculum for IEP StudentsFormative Assessments Practice NA Teacher/Administrator Observation DataSummative Assessments NA NACoordination of Services for FRL, ELL, IEP students NA NAOther: SAT/ACT Plus Writing Results Other: Other:Other: AP Exam Results Other: Other:

Summary Statement: Please provide a brief description for how the analyzed data will impact your Inquiry and Action Planning process. In the 17-18 school year, LVA graduated 100% of the senior class, with 57.9% of seniors earning an Advanced Diploma or Advanced Honors Diploma. Currently, 8.7% of our senior students are off track to graduate in May 2019. All credit deficient students are participating in credit retrieval through the Nevada Learning Academy and/or APEX program. A common school-wide grading policy was implemented and the administration has continued to monitor the number of D's and F's at quarter and semester. Overall, LVA saw a decrease in the number of F's and the number of D's during both semesters last school year. The Route to Intervention (RTI) committee revised it's referral and case management procedures, assigning each referred student a teacher mentor to work with the student's teacher to design a general education plan and monitor its effectiveness. RTI plans were reviewed weekly and after-school tutoring interventions were expanded to include assistance for all students in English and Science, where only Math tutoring had been provided previously. A new committee was formed to coordinate student services between the Social Worker, Counseling, Health, and Special Education departments to streamline services provided to students and identify at-risk students faster to get students back on track with their academic progress, school attendance, and/or behavior. Advanced Placement (AP) students are mandated to take the AP exams in May 2018, with 55.6% of students earning a score of 3 or better. During the 2017-2018, 547 students took 941 AP courses, with IEP students, 504 Plan students and regular education students given access to the AP courses. For the 18-19 school year, 556 students have signed up for 1,024 AP courses. Finally, through our data analysis of the 2018 ACT Plus Writing exam, we noted that 26% of our students meeting benchmark scores in all four subject areas of the ACT, an increase of 3%. Teachers and Administration collaborated on the Student Learning Goals (SLG's) to focus on College and Career Readiness (CCR) Anchor Standards, which are aligned with the K-12 Common Core standards, in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language. Academic teachers utilized Practice ACT questions to increase students' exposure to the higher-ordered DOK levels found on the ACT PLus Writing exam. Staff development and Site-Based Collaboration Time was devoted to improving instructional practices, writing common Writing rubrics and increasing rigor in mathematics and science through collaborative data analysis and assessment development. Staff development opportunities continued to be provided in summative versus formative assessment and literacy content. LVA had 23 bullying/cyberbullying report with 8 reports being found substantiated. This year, there have been three SafeVoice reports and six reports through the dean's office, with only two reports confirmed through investigation by the dean's office.

HOPE 2 Intervention

Focus of Intervention:We will work collaboratively with parents, teachers, social worker, school counselors, and administrative offices to identify inappropriate behaviors. Students will develop a 10-year plan to determine long- and short-term goals.

Monitoring Plan:The Success Center will track documentation by monitoring the Counseling Database as well as in the personal planning program: Naviance. Administration, counselors and social worker will track D/F/U students.

Evaluation Plan:Infinite Campus’ database comparison over the past three years of referrals for soft suspensions as well as credit deficient data to the number of current referrals.

COMPONENT II: Inquiry Process & Action Plan Design- Priority Need/Goal 1

Based on the CNA, identify all that apply:☑ General Education ☑ FRL ☑ ELL ☑ IEP ☐ Other

Priority Need/Goal 1:Increase student average Composite score on the ACT Plus Writing examination.

Root Causes:Students have a lack of test-taking strategies and lack of exposure to ACT test questions. Students also have unidentified areas of weakness that need to be addressed for students to catch up to ACT benchmark expectations.

Measurable Objective 1:Increase the percentage of students earning the benchmark score on all four subject areas on the ACT Plus Writing exam by 3% by March 2020.

COMPONENT II: Inquiry Process & Action Plan Design- Priority Need/Goal 2

Based on the CNA, identify all that apply:☑ General Education ☑ FRL ☑ ELL ☑ IEP ☐ Other

Priority Need/Goal 2:Reduce the number of 9th and 10th grade students placed on probationary status at LVA for academic, attendance, citizenship and/or behavior. Focus on D/F students, students with chronic absenteeism, N/U citizenship marks and students habitually sent to dean's office for a variety of reasons.

Root Causes:Although the school continues to make strides in reducing the number of D's and F's on semester grades, students continue to lose credit for core and elective classes due to low academic progress and/or denial of credit for attendance issues. Citizenship policy enforcement by the administration to ensure consistent implementation by teachers with necessary documentation of parent communication. Teachers need to improve student and parent communication on the causes of a student's low performance and/or citizenship status, with strategies on how to improve. It has been noted that students are not doing formative assessments, which negatively impacts their performance on summative assessments. Teachers need to utilize the mandatory "Lunch and Learn" department hours (detention) when students do not complete formative assessments.

Measurable Objective 1:Decrease the number of 9th and 10th grade students placed on Probationary Status by 10%.
