School Planting Day
This Saturday morning !
It’s on again! Bring a friend, bring a family member but make sure you come on down this Saturday morning 21st June 9am—11am to Hillcrest Primary School and lend a hand as we continue our mission to stimulate the natural vegetation of the school grounds along the banks of Drake Street. Our ongoing partnership with the City of Bayswater and Environmental Officer Jeremy Maher will see over one thousand (1 000) plants provided on the day to assist with soil erosion and the beautification and revegetation of this area. We will be going ahead rain, hail or shine so make sure you dress for the occasion. Even if you can only spare thirty (30) minutes, pop on down and plant your piece of Hillcrest history. A free sausage sizzle will follow for those that have built up a bit of an appetite. Looking forward to seeing you there. Reporting to Parents The recent adoption of the Australian Curriculum has implications for the grading of children in most year levels. The Australian Curriculum has a broader, more intense and rigorous standard than the now superseded WA Curriculum. A student previously awarded a ‘C’ grade under the WA Curriculum may not be a ‘C’ grade when matched against the more detailed requirements of the Australian Curriculum.
Kindy and Pre-Primary Enrolments for 2015 It is imperative that parents seeking to place their children in the Hillcrest Early Years Program for 2015 register their intent to enrol their children by Friday 25th July. With the implementation of a student centred funding model and the transition of year sevens to high school in 2015 it is even more important than usual to inform the school as early as possible regarding intended enrolments to ensure the most accurate decisions can be made regarding staffing and class structures.
Road Safety A timely reminder to take the extra time and apply patience when entering and leaving the school grounds. Please ensure the safety of everyone accessing our site by following the signed car parking procedures.

VIRTUE - for week 9 & 10 Helpfulness HELPFULNESS is being of service. It is doing useful things for people, such as things they cannot do for themselves, something they do not have time to do, or just little things that make life easier. It is important to be helpful to ourselves too, by taking care of our bodies. There are times when we need help from others. That is a good time to ask for help. When we are helpful, we care about others. We don’t wait to be asked. We notice what needs to be done and just do it. If we cannot figure out what someone needs, we ask them ―How can I help?‖ or ―What do you need?‖ We help ourselves by remembering to eat healthy foods, exercise and get plenty of rest. We remember to ask for help when we need it. As a family, discuss what HELPFULNESS looks like in your home. Each person could then share a way or ways in which they are going to help their virtue of HELPFULNESS shine am going to make the lunches the night before so that my family can save time in the morning and not be in such a rush before school. Mr Steve Fairs, Associate Principal

JAPANESE INCURSION—FRIDAY 6 JUNE : Anne Norman: Kasa-jizo and the wonderful hat song show
Our school invited again this year Anne Norman with her new
"Kasa-jizo and the wonderful hat song" story telling show. The show
was engaging, educational and most importantly super fun! All of the
children were able to learn the background of the story in detail (food,
transportation, people's life during the Edo era (1844) of Japan) as well
as many Japanese words used frequently during the story and in the
song. Many students voluntarily put up their hands to participate either
as musicians, sound effect makers or characters in the story while all
the audience sang and danced to the wonderful hat song.
The words we learnt include "subarashii!", "heiki dayo", "ojii-san' and
"obaa-san" just to name a few.
Please ask your child to sing
and dance the song at
home, and then
ask them what
the words mean.
