History• Czech education system has

history which is based on long tradition

• Currently, there are all types of education –preschool, elementary, secondary, university, postgraduate and ongoing education.

• This presentation shows you system of preschool and elementary school.

Preschool education• Children may enter this first level

of education before compulsory school attendance

• Pre-school education is provided by nursery schools and kindergartens for children aged three to six

• In cooperation with parents and educators, kids learn how to think logically and discuss, training their memories, exercising their imaginations and also provide social contact among children

Elementary education• Most children attend state schools• Girls and boys are taught together,

students do not wear uniforms• Education at state schools up to

nineteen is free of charge, but students at secondary schools must pay for their books

• At the age of 11 or 13 some pupils can enter to a grammar school after they passed an entrance examination.

• Compulsory school attendance takes nine years, usually from the age of 6 till the age of 15

Types• Elementary school (state or private)• Grammar school• Conservatory• Special school

• Special and assisted schools are intended for children with mental and physical disabilities.

• In recent years, the system of home education has also been experimentally tested.

Course• The school year starts on 1st

September and ends on 30th June of the following year

• The school year is divided into two terms

• Classes usually begin between eight and eight-fifteen

• There are usually six lessons followed by a lunch break

• Breaks between lessons lasts from five to twenty minutes

Classification• Scale of grades from 1 (the best)

to 5 (the worst)• If a pupil gets 5 as the mark of all

year, he/she have to be re-examined in the respective subject at the end of summer holidays (usually in August). If he/she passes the retake exam, he/she can enter the next level class in September. If he/she fails, he/she must re-do the last class again.
