Let’s get started! This document includes important information about the Centricity 2 Upgrade process that will soon occur. Here is what you can expect to find:

Question: What is Centricity and why do we need 2? Centricity is the management software that you use to create your webpages. Upgrading from Centricity 1 (what we currently use) to Centricity 2 will improve the “back-end” of the website making it easier to manage and maintain. No changes will occur to the appearance of the website.

The Upgrade Timeline• Today – Review this document• September 15-18 – maintenance and updating Centricity 1 website• September 19 – At 7 PM, a snapshot of Centricity 1 (C1) site will be

taken. This snapshot will be remade into the Centricity 2 (C2) site. You use C1 at www.sulcosd.k12.pa.us

• September 20 – Schoolwires begins porting over C1 snapshot to C2. You use C1 at www.sulcosd.k12.pa.us. C2 site is not available to us yet.

• September 27-30 – Schoolwires completes C2 site and makes it available for review. You use C1 at www.sulcosd.k12.pa.us. C2 is available at a temporary c2.sullivan.schoolwires.net site (this url may change).

• October 3 – After reviewing the website, we notify schoolwires we are ready to start using C2. You will now be using C2 at www.sulcosd.k12.pa.us. The C1 site will stay online at c1.sullivan.schoolwires.net (this url may change) if you need to look at your old website for two weeks.

• October 17 – C1 site at c1.sullivan.schoolwires.net will be taken offline and permanently backed up by Schoolwires.

• Maintenance – review your section of schoolwires. Delete any files and

pictures you no longer use on your site. Delete or inactivate any pages

that are no longer “fresh”

• Update your pages – Update your C1 site with as much information as

possible before the snapshot date. This is very important. After the

snapshot on September 19, 2012 any changes you make to the C1 site

will not be present in the C2 site automatically. These edits will need to

be copied to the C2 site manually.

• After the Snapshot – Keep a record of changes you make to the C1 site

that need to be added manually to C2 until the C2 site is live.

• Site review – When C2 is ready for release, review your site to ensure it

meets your standards.

Warnings from SchoolwiresCentricity 2 is a great upgrade over Centricity 1. C2 conforms to web standards and is easier to manage, maintain and track. C1 was not fully compliant with HTML standards, and in the transition, a few formatting and document issues are noted by Schoolwires.

Here are the things to look for:

• Table/Font Size Issue: Size 48 Font and tables that exceed 680 pixels (about 6 inches) would be too large and will not display properly. Centricity was programmed using a Quirks-Type WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editor, which uses older web HTML standards and is more forgiving with bad/poor code than Industry Standard HTML, which Centricity2 uses.

• Links inside of documents: Links from inside a document to the C1 site will not work after the upgrade. For example, if you have a Word document that points to a page on your C1 site, this link inside the document will no longer work. Schoolwires has a video about this.

• Paste from Word icon : – Using this icon may cause a difference in what is seen by your viewers compared to your editor’s view in site manager. This icon strips out all the HTML associated with the document except for Italic and Bold; and uses whatever parameters are set in the system CSS, i.e. Ariel 12 pt font. Font colors will be removed. A table still needs to fit in the 680 pixel limit that the page allows. If a table over 680 pixels is pasted into the editor, from Word, it will be cut off.

PasswordsYour password will be the same in C2 as it is in C1 except that to start it will be lowercase.

Schoolwires and I strongly suggest that you change your password when you first login to the C2 site.

Furthermore, it is a good practice to avoid using the same password for all web services. For example, you should not use the same password for schoolwires as you use for your bank account. This eliminates the risk that if someone finds out your schoolwires account they could access other important sites you use.
