Malnutrition is a killer. But with the help of SCIAF-funded

project, the Jesuit Development Service (JDS), Hazzid’sparents have turned the family’s fortunes around. They were

given seeds to grow tomatoes and avocadoes. They also gottools and training to keep chickens and set up a fish farm in a

Caritas Awards

Parishioners at St Bride’s in East Kilbride have come together to mark the inaugurationof Pope Francis. Inspired by his vision of a church ‘that is poor and for the poor’, theyraised funds to buy the Real Gift of a ‘Field of hope’ in his name. Their thoughtful tributewill give a whole community the chance to free themselves from poverty.

Parish Priest Fr Owen Ness said: “A deep sense of hope and of personal encounter with Jesus is needed in the Church and we have prayed that the Holy Spirit will lead

Pope Francis through his expression on concern for the poor and the needy to actualisethis hope leading to the good of all people in the years of his pontificate.”

If you’re buying Real Gifts as a parish or group, let us know so that we can send you a thankyou poster or other materials to display. Visit www.sciaf.org.uk/realgifts to find out more.

SCIAF supporters from across the country havebeen busy over the last few months taking partin the Enough Food for Everyone IF campaign.

Together we’re calling on world leaders to put a stop to the scandal of global hunger. Thankyou to everyone who has been to an IF event, completed a campaign action, spoken to their

MP or travelled to Belfast for the BIG IF rally on 15th June. There’s still time to add your name to our latest campaign action urging First Minister AlexSalmond to ensure Scotland plays its part. We’re asking him to make sure Scottish Governmentspending promotes the interests of developing countries and does not go to companiesengaged in tax dodging.
